i have a son with high level autism. It's ADHD and Asperger's Syndrome. Let me know if any father have questions.

There is another thread on autism but not one seems to be interested to contribute. In fact according the austism educators a lot of parents are still denial about their kids having autism. A lot of autism are mild and the child will look normal but they have temper issue and speech issue which the parent do not want to seek help. They keep denying their kids having problem and afraid that their child get labelled as "crazy" or "nuts".

Plus a lot of old folks (the grandparents) who knows nothing about autism simple says things. They just get info from other grandparents and say the child is ok, no problem..the issue will "go away" when the child grow up. By the time they grow up as teen, it will be too late to seek help.

Autism never go away. It can be intervened. The child will be taught how to handle his/her issue but there is NO CURE for it.

Hi Abubin, what are the symptoms parents should look out for? Sometimes it's very similar to growing stages of a child so some children are faster some are slower.

yup, it is hard to detect especially if your child is too young. For a proper diagnostic by psychologist, they recommend the child to be at least 5yo.

Most of the times, you can tell by they way the think. However, it depends on what kind of autism your child is having. You can compare the symtoms in websites that list them.

For example, my son's asperger syndrome has these symtoms:

difficulty making friends of the same age, children with AS may feel more comfortable with adults or much younger children
engages in one-sided, long-winded conversations, without noticing if the listener is still listening or trying to change the subject
displays unusual nonverbal communication, such as lack of eye contact, few facial expressions, or awkward body postures and gestures
does not empathize with or seems insensitive to others’ feelings and has a hard time “reading” other people or may have difficulty understanding humor
doesn’t understand the give-and-take of conversation or engage in “small talk”
seems egocentric or self-absorbed
may speak in a voice that is monotone, rigid, jerky or unusually fast
may be extremely literal or have difficulty understanding the nuances of language, despite having a good vocabulary

hey bro. thanks for sharing your experience. my friends son has autism as well not sure what level, but can see its very difficult for them to manage. she was also living in denial i guess. she knew it and they were working on management. but i guess a part of her was just pretending like nothing happened then one day she went to one specialist in australia and he had a good talk with her, then finally let out all her feelings. once again, thanks for sharing flex.gif

i dont think is modern way yeah .. is more on asian vs mat salleh way ....

my way for my 3 kids when they are 4 years old
time out (punish them standing facing the wall (3 minutes/until they admit the mistake and say sorry)
do not mentioned .... u r naughty/useless/bodoh else everyday they use to the word and act like it ... just mentioned , papa/mama not happy on the way you behave today.

end of the day .. spend more time with kids .. you be more easier in future if the foundation is build when they are young ..

tips
4-7 years below
lego is a good for building relationship .. also if you want your kids to play on pc .. go to http://pbskids.org/ ..

my 8 and 10 years old, we play remote control/hot wheels car on weekend ..

congrats bro. just make sure you stock up on all the stuff you need like diapers and creams and oils etc. and get a 'go' bag ready. i highly recommend getting minyak telon too. also all clothes should be washed before use. can get the special detergent for baby clothes to kill bacteria and less chemicals or something for the baby's sensitive skin. can also ge the tummy wrap thing to protect the umbilical cord from rubbing or accidentally getting caught. icon_rolleyes.gif

i just putting it out there. other people probably told you the same thing though hahaha. but just in case i also wanna add. also you need to decide if you gonna use formula or use breast feeding. then can also prepare accordingly. like need to boil the barang barang you wanna use like bottles and such to sterilize or go shopping for breast pump, nipple cream (some women breastfeed till nipples all bleeding, so its advised to use cream a week or two beforehand. its damn expensive though like RM40 for 5ml or something like that sweat.gif ).

for breastfeeding. one thing you can decide to do or not, depending on your waifu personality... is to talk with your wife about breastfeeding and 'possibility' of low milk supply at the beginning. my wife went into slight depression as had no milk for first week. but i think if we were prepared that it might happen then i think she wouldnt have been so upset. but after supplementing with halba/fenugreek tea. all went well.

good luck. be patient. waifu will become crazy. and you will too. hahah.

hehe. congrats. dont worry about the stuff. if you cant get it. someone else can help.

minyak telon looks like this (amongst others, but this is what i use).

its for bloating, tummy aches, etc. not sure what is yu yi oil. but this is something like eucalyptus i guess. haha. kinda traditional. use on tummy, chest, back and feet normally.

edit... i frickin love the smell. ask parents or aunties for sure they know or they will recommend something that does the same job.

also, some people like to recommend gripe water for bloating. i personally never used it. bought it and left it there cause i found out it is similar to medicine and unless baby really going crazy we didnt wanna give any chemical stuff like that.
