ok, i got vdub running and merged the subtitles. however, when i press save as AVI, even 5GB isn't enough to save it! and the original is only 700MB in size! how do i somehow reduce the size?

edit: i did it! just compressed the file using the Divx codec!

You need to select the "video compression".Check my previous post about compression below :

http://forum.lowyat.net/index.php?showtopi...dpost&p=4809398

You can either use DivX or Xvid to compress the video. It work proportionally.Higher bitrate >> good video >> larger file.

If it were me, I will not transcode anything because by doing that you're just losing quality more and more
Best is to get a DivX & Xvid compatible DVD player to go with it

QUOTE(peelfresh @ Sep 20 2005, 09:58 PM)
may i know what software to comvert from VOB file to avi or mpg?
*
Use DGIndex dude and save it in the avi container
DGIndex used to be DVD2AVI wink.gif or VDub
If you want other softwares you can try DVDex

If you want to convert to VCD (MPEG1), use TMPgenc

dBpowerAMP is no longer freeware. So yes, it's a trial version that expires after 30 days.

This is probably one of the most common question but I'm close to pulling my hair out over this. sad.gif I've been reading (forums including LY, d-addicts, videohelp.com etc) and trying everything that I can to convert my avi file so that I can burn it into a VCD format.

Problem:

I downloaded Deuce Bigalow 2 using BT. The file is complete and I can view it using WMP. The file size is approx. 710MB. The details are enclosed in a snapshop by gspot.

I downloaded WinAVI since I read good reviews about it plus the easy to use interface. I selected my avi to convert but nothing happens. I've tried more than 10 times and it hangs and nothing gets converted.

I gave up WinAVI and tried TMPGEnc instead. I followed every step written on this guide. It managed to do the full conversion until it reached 100%. I checked on the file in my folder directory and the size was only 400MB!!! I used WMP and WinAmp to play the file and nothing appears, no picture or sound.

What am I doing wrong? I've tried everything and it's so frustrating not being able to burn the movie that you first download off BT to watch on TV.

Can somebody please guide me or is there a better software to use? Sorry I can be quite a newbie to this since it's my first try but I've done everything, especially the reading part.

I notice something with your link you include there (here).Based on the screenshot by GSpot, your video framerate is 25fps, so you need to select PAL instead of NTSC film.I hope you aware this as per quote :

QUOTE
Select Video-CD -
NTSC if the video source is 29,97 frames/sec (FPS)
NTSC Film if the video source is 23.976 frames/sec (FPS)
PAL if the video source is 25 frames/sec (FPS).

Can you try convert again but using PAL ?Burn that file and try play in your VCD player. If not ok try with NTSC but no NTSC film.My DVD player didn't recognized NTSC Film but fine with NTSC and PAL.

keyz: i noticed that, I selected PAL instead of NTSC. I havent tried burning on NTSC ... thinking it won't work. maybe i'll try tonight.

One more thing, I managed to fully convert my other avi file (korean movie + subtitle) from avi to mpg. Does this mean once it's fully converted i can burn into a blank disc and it can be played on a vcd player?

This thread is for conversions not splitting. Please check the threads or run a search next time.

Yes, if you manage to convert into VCD compliant, there should be no problem when burning into VCD.Just make sure you convert according to VCD specification.
