I'm running IBM T42 on Ubuntu 7.10 Gutsy Gibbon. Everything works "out-of-the-box" save for the internal modem, but I've got wireless to cover that. And yes...even compiz-fusion works like a charm!

Tried it on my other Dell Inspiron 6400. But haven't managed to get the widescreen res to work properly just yet. And worse is when you've got another widescreen LCD panel running dual-head with it.

Cheers!

IBM X41 with FreeBSD 6.2 REL + Enlightenment DR17.
All work out of box and after configure and installation, wireless and thumbprint work as well, didn't test on Bluetooth and SD card yet.

i think this is a great thread but the title need to be more focused.

IBM Thinkpad R60
Installed dual boot with Ubuntu and FC5. Just got the machine

1) Ubuntu 7.04 Feisty - Gnome desktop only
Wireless is fine. Can connect to 128bit WEP wireless AP.
Inconsistent connection to projector. Works sometimes at 1024 resolution, other times must reboot but get only 640 resolution.
Virtualisation with virtual box no problem
GLX gears gave the following: 4207 frames in 5.0 seconds = 841.366 FPS

2) Fedora Core 5 - Gnome desktop only
Wireless cant work!
Havent tested fully.

I am looking for an affordable wireless camera that can be controlled by Linux laptop. Please contact me if any. The ones I have been seeing is about RM900+

tboxmy, try using driconf at this website if you wanna try increasing your fps. I'm running ubuntu 7.10 on mobility 7500 and getting ~1500 fps.

Cheers!

i will need to get a laptop. because it's finally dead. before i rush out and get one, i need to confirm a few things.

- how many among you guys got the broadcom working. and how, using fwcutter? or ndiswrapper
- have you guy try intel 965 chipset, with x3100, how well it's run on current linux distro, because found a few lappy with this card
- nvidia, or rather their chipset. have you guys found issue with it, heard there is sound issue, is it?
- what kind of hardware, have sound issue,
- how is your experience in atheros wireless card.
- how many of you guys, experience sound issue.

actually this is not quite true. it seems that me and several other have problem with bcm4311 wireless. most ends up solving it using ndiswrapper. which i didn't try yet. i am trying to use the native driver. because ndiswrapper don't seems to be able to be used for wireless sniffing.

got my new lappy. runs on turion64 x2, with virtualization biggrin.gif biggrin.gif 1gig or ram, nforce board, work like charm on ubuntu 64bit biggrin.gif . nvidia 6150 biggrin.gif . which ubuntu have nvidia-glx in repository that need to be installed manually. via synaptic.

wireless works now via ndiswrapper, as expected. what happen is that this version of card require the b43 driver which in wireless-dev in kernel, and will be in on 2.6.23 kernel. because this card require v4 of the firmware from broadcom. so i have no choice but to use ndiswrapper for now.

p.s i will miss the time when i sniff the wireless network.

EDIT: change the problem of the firmware, add partially to the solution. problem is solved

if you're buying a dell look at dell usa website.
they have native linux models there that ship with ubuntu.
get that model there and install ubuntu rclxm9.gif and you're all set laugh.gif
