I doubt many people will be able to reply to this thread. Did you open a new thread on this?

If im not wrong, generally HP laptops are almost always compatible with Ubuntu. I've just installed the 18.04 LTS on one of my 4 year old HP Pavillion, so far good for the usual media and web surfing usage. You might want to try dual booting before installing it on yours, just to test check the necessary.

Do not buy HP 15-BE series. It is extremely struggling experience to install wifi drivers on it. I managed to do it when i was in my home country and had ubuntu 14 (LTS version) but when i decided to upgrade to newest version of Ubuntu I couldn't use wifi at all and drivers didn't provide for the newest version. I had to use Linux Subsystems to do my development work. So try to avoid it.

Actually, Not all models, The one I am currently using has lots of quirks for Linux. One of the major one though was wifi driver. It was hard enough and took me lot of time and efforts to figure out for ubuntu 14 but new version of ubuntu completely broke my os. I had to switch back to windows and use the linux subsystems to get my work done.

Many of these problem can be solved by using updated kernel.

I have a old HP pavillion. 2014 old. Hmm windows is so bloated, i might install linux and play around with it. Older machine performs way better on Linux(ubuntu) than windows right?

In general. Shouldn't have any driver issues as well as Linux has good supported if the hardware is out for a year or so. Newer laptops generally have more problems with driver support.

Hi every Linux Master, I am currently using Asus S56cm with i7 3517U Processor. It is already 6 years old. Thinking of experience Linux and wanna install it in my windows laptop. Is my laptop able to install Linux? Is it good for dual booting? Will Windows and Linux mess up everything? Btw Ubuntu or Mint is a better choice for newbie like me?

Main problem of laptop for Linux that some older models do not really support something like standart SATA 3 SSD today they always do keep it like something of like SATA 3 HDD or SATA 2 SSD speeds for whatever reason anyway.

biggrin.gif Currently I am rely on Dell XPS 14 with Ubuntu 18.04 with latest stable kernel install into my notebook. I am thinking to purchase a Macbook Air and replace operating system with Ubuntu Linux. That's my planning for MCO.
