I'm running IBM T42 on Ubuntu 7.10 Gutsy Gibbon. Everything works "out-of-the-box" save for the internal modem, but I've got wireless to cover that. And yes...even compiz-fusion works like a charm!
Tried it on my other Dell Inspiron 6400. But haven't managed to get the widescreen res to work properly just yet. And worse is when you've got another widescreen LCD panel running dual-head with it.
Cheers!

1) Ubuntu 7.04 Feisty - Gnome desktop only Wireless is fine. Can connect to 128bit WEP wireless AP. Inconsistent connection to projector. Works sometimes at 1024 resolution, other times must reboot but get only 640 resolution. Virtualisation with virtual box no problem GLX gears gave the following: 4207 frames in 5.0 seconds = 841.366 FPS tboxmy, try using driconf at this website if you wanna try increasing your fps. I'm running ubuntu 7.10 on mobility 7500 and getting ~1500 fps. Cheers!
