Does this only apply when you buy coffee like starbuck or any coffee even at kopitiam or mamak? How about buying coffee beans etc?

we grew up with over roasted with margarine cheap liberica or cheap arabica beans... our palate is used to kedai kopi kaw kaw with condensed milk... and so we have this expectation and bias...

good arabica beans can have varied smells and tastes... acidity or sourness is often one of it... a good coffee may be sour but should be well balanced... if overly sour means it wasn't brew properly... and of course you can have some coffee without much acidity/sourness... and roasting can adjust the flavor profile of the beans...

Quick advice needed, I normally buy RM8 Costa coffee (Americano) from Shell daily and wanted to go for a pod machine (to reduce cost), from all the experts here, which brand may be suitable for me cost and taste wise? And anyone with experience on the cost of the pods?

If you prefer Americano, go for a Nespresso machine if you want a decent pod coffee machine.

There are two variants of machine - original and vertuo system. Original line is the older machine. Max is 110ml per cup. I prefer black coffee so this does this trick for me.

Vertuo line is the newer system. Their main selling point is that they can brew coffee up to 500ml per cup.

500ml,thts over watered down coffee

I have tried the 200ml version in one of the Nespresso boutique recently and the taste is really not what I am expecting. Guess I will just stick to my original line machine at the moment.

Ahhh, so assuming the Costa Coffee Americano of M size (355 ml), I should theoretically go for the vertuo but I'm kinda more interested in the original line. Would like to know if the original line can fit bigger mugs and can we just top up hot water directly from the machine?

I don’t think it can fit big mugs though. It is just 110ml tops so a small coffee cup would do the trick. And yes you can top up room temperature water into the machine.

Just drop by any Nespresso boutique for a taste test. People like me go for Nespresso pods mainly for the convenience. Taste wise it is very subjective, but definitely no where else close freshly brewed coffee. But good enough.
