retention is a problem if you just let it grind and wait for it to finish... but with a little bit of work while grinding it becomes a non issue... been using this on-off for past 15 yrs...

Out of the box, most owners said, have to recalibrate the burr alignment
some parts like dial indicator, dosing cup extender have to 3d print

u can get at J coffee, but I messaged them last may, pre order only

if by recalibrate you mean find the "zero point" where the burrs touch, this is normal nothing to it...

if the burrs is a bit off centre... it's east to fix and this happens with other grinders too...

if the burr angle is incorrect...one side small gap...opposite big gap... then this is a very big problem...

depends how its assembled/QAQC...usually no problem but there is always that one that got away...

Got mine after 1 month wait. Pre order at Jcoffee. Mine fitted with ssp burrs and david have done calibration on it already. I recheck the burr alignment with marker and it is aligned perfectly..

That's awesome. Does he also sell 3d printed mods for it?

Hi guys, recently started making cold brews using timemore c2. Looking for an upgrade and my budget is approx 1.5k max.

Would an electric grinder like df64 or feima 600n be better than 1zpresso jx Pro?

I've read really good reviews saying 1z easily beats baratza grinders. Sometimes we grind <100g coffee for big batches brews and I'm contemplating between quality burrs or motor convenience..

cold brews are quite tolerant of grinding... what you really wanna think of is in future you wanna do espresso or not ... buy with that in mind

imho 1z and df64 >> baratza >> 600n... both baratza & 600n are not very good for espresso

since I'm lazy... machine over manual

if you're into brews... consider ghost tooth burr grinders...

Thanks for the reply, didn't know 600n wasn't very good haha. I see a lot of taiwan youtubers seem to like it. Guess the winner is still between 1z and df64 hahaha. What about niche zero? Extra 2k for the build or just the aesthetics?

niche uses conical burrs that are more expensive... it's design needs more complicated toolings to manufacture... ~4k is actually very cheap for this class

You mentioned 'machine'. Does it have to be espresso? Because for all other brew methods the cost is substantially lower and you can focus on the grinder.

If you do want to delve into espresso, then as long as you don't need to routinely pull many back-to-back shots, then you can consider a Flair and a premium hand grinder like from from 1Zpresso, even ACE48, which would then easily fit within your budget. It will even have room for a French Press to froth your milk.

I saw breville bes870 selling for rm3199 at harvey norman.
Is this machine ok?
Since it has integrated burr grinder.
Any other better option within that price (or slightly lower)?
Or combination of cheaper machine such as Gemilai CRM3605 + DF64 grinder.
What do u guys think?

Anyone tried WPM ZD-17N grinder? I just bought CRM3605, and I watched a few videos on Youtube of people using it with CRM3605, so I guess it can do espresso. I was thinking of buying DF64, but the preorder wait is just too long, so thinking of getting this one instead.
