I took the consideration between the touchbar, magsafe cable, butterfly keyboard and bunch of converters
I think the touchbar is the least useful... It make me think if I should take the previous design and it save some $$$ as well.

Share with us, how you would see the touchbar be useful in your daily work.
probably after I listen from you, I may reconsider.

Old design comes with two ports only. One more charging that left one available. If it's enough, then it shouldn't be a problem.

with 13" 2015 16gb vs 13" 2016 16gb (touchbar) RM2000 diff.

Mbp 2015 users need not to buy anything
Mbp 2016 users need to buy external dongles

only type C ports which requires many adapters/ dongles.

doesn't this make the word - portable - redundant? ... just a thought

It's up to personal preference I think. The redesign of smaller body does the portable for me. As a web developer I don't really use that much port, the display port hook up to external monitor is the only port I use every day due to my 1280x800 screen on my existing non-retina 2012 machine.

For me, I can tolerance to get a multiport dongle (hdmi, USB) at AliExpress and it should be fine for me.

I find no reason to get old one except the price is real real cheap. People tends to afraid of change but at the end of the day they will regret by saying "aiyo, that time I should get the latest one sad.gif"

Yeah but will go for non touch bar as I don't see the usage is for me now, and the extra 1k+ is out if my budget too. might sell and get a touch bar version in future if it really useful for me in future.

If you are not heavy usage on USB port, can try cheaper adapter from "unknown/OEM" brand. Or go for the docking station like Belkin 1 if you need a more reliable solution.

Nop, my current non-retina 2012 is 16GB but the daily ram usage was only about 1/3 averagely since after I have moved my test virtual machine to a server. Only occasionally require to boot up Windows 10 with Parallels for some quick 10 minutes work.

I was actually in dilemma too whether to go for 16GB & better processor, but end up had make up my mind that when you really need it in future then you'll gonna to need it now too, it's very hard for me to get "future proof" and predict about what's the future works that'll need that kind of usage. If in future I really need that (I guess it shouldn't be in 1 - 2 years) then it's fine for me to sell it and get a new machine with the spec i want at that moment.

in term of faster processor, I don't think that's really a noticeable difference between the non-touch & touch bar especially for my usage, unless I purposely boots up multiple virtual machines and install a very powerful IDE. Even with the 13" touch version, it's still dual core which I don't think it will helps that much. To really cater my "excessive" needs (multiple VMs, heavy IDE) I would need a 15" machine and I clearly know that I am unable to afford it for now. So what I'm doing now is to cutting down the "heavy-usage" (switch from a heavy powerful IDE to a lightweight IDE yet the features is there, eliminate local VMs or only boot up when I really need that).

BTW it's all really up to your own preference and usage, I remembered that during the time I upgraded 16GB ram to the non-retina machine. I setup VMs and open all the time, install a powerful IDE and load it with several projects to "prove" that I'm "utilizing" the power now and no regret for the update.

All these are my own opinion for my own usage, I do understand that someone there would need powerful processor (video editing, programming works required compiling, etc) and massive amount of RAM for multiple VMs. Buy only what you need and you think you will gonna use it for now, technology change fast and people always wants the new thing.
