Hi all, can't say I'm not disappointed with the recent announcement. I was so excited about the beautiful machine because it will be my first Apple laptop but the price is wayyyyyy above my budget.Initially I plan to buy the 15' and prepared rm 8k++ for it but the price is RM 9.5k(education store price).

So no choice, now I plan to get the 13inches without touch bar.
Main usage
1) web development (Java script, html, css)
2) app development using X code. Android Studio or Eclipse
3) YouTube and movies, web browsing.
4) light video editing

Want to bump it to 16gb ram so the price will be rm 7k in education store. Hopefully it will be sufficient for my purpose =)

Hi, I am also a mac user who does app development and some photo editing. 8GB is just nice for me as OS X has very good memory management.
But do keep note that you have to close the apps that you are not in use or else 8GB is not really sufficient.

im also aim for the 13inches model
i think 8gb ram is more than enough. dont have to push to 16gb

then save up the money to get adapter, magic mouse, cover and etc
cuz you're not gonna use it as your primary work station, am i right?

For now I wanna use the MacBook Pro to do coding and web development, then slowly make the transition to become primary workstation. I have a Lenovo Y580 , bought it four years ago now still kicking ass with SSD running so it will still be my main machine for the time being hehe.

For the ram, yeah I think 8gb is enough for now, but if I wana use it for the next 5years, might as well upgrade to 16gb?

shipping date is 6-8weeks later, guess I will just wait until December to grab it. Can't bear the long waiting time haha

im a designer. currently im using 17inch msi gaming laptop, but i can share with you about my friend's experience.
most of them are graphic designers. they are using either 2013 or 2014 macbook pro with 8gb ram, have no problem to run indesign, ai ,ps.
the graphic work always be the same, so no worry for the upcoming 5years, i believe you can survive with it : D
(my lecturer using 2009 / 2010 macbook pro until now , so ya no problem)

BUT

if you are a multimedia designer like me, i strongly suggest to push to 16gb
last time i did a lot of motion graphic, rending, or even open ai and ps together,
so i really need more than 8gb ram to get things worked and opened at the same time

right now i moving to web design and development
im looking for light weight laptop for me to work in office
because my msi laptop has bad color accurarcy,
It always make me refine the artwork several times before submit to client

Consider the following article. It has some good grounds.

To be safe I will suggest you to go for 16GB ram instead. You won't want to spend so much on a laptop that can only last you for 2 years. hmm.gif

Many ppl actually complaint last time that 128GB storage is not sufficient and they are forced to use SD card as their secondary drive.
I'm using 256GB version right now and I am happy with it.

I'm using 2014 spec. It depends on how you use your laptop. If you need a few resource hogging applications run together at the same time, 16GB will be always a better choice.

depends. if average usage of photoshop, ai, it should suffice. but if require motion/video rendering than should get unit with high ram + dedicated graphic card.

mine is 8gb can do decent editing and play casual games. biggrin.gif

8gb is really more than sufficient for normal users. In fact it is a very sweet spot for ram size.

However, for those who are IT professional in any area, then 16gb is also good choice as by paying 10% more, one can make the machine really future proof. Since one has already spent so much on the MacBook, the 10% extra may not be so crucial especially if one plans to use it for long like 5 years. As it is important to note that the ram cannot be upgraded later.

Apple introduces the iPhone 7 and removes
- headphone jack

And that took 'courage'

Later Apple introduces the new MacBook Pro Retina with Touch Bar and removes
- MagSafe 2 charging port type
- HDMI port
- SD card slot
- Thunderbolt 2 ports
- standard USB port

It replaces with four Thunderbolt 3/USB-C ports. Surprisingly the headphone jack still remains.

I think Apple have more 'courage' on the new MacBook Pro Retina 2016 then on the iPhone 7.
