Why do u heard that from, or u actually owned one. Samsung is still far from the best my friend.

Added on April 27, 2007, 5:16 pm

If u want to get LG, get the 40', as the 37' do not have the backlite control, as your eye will be strained watching it. U can ask edifier about it.

I've been busy checking the latest price. My primary usage will be for HTPC and regular TV programs. Below ar emy findings. Sharp is using their own ASV panel, Sammy is their S-PVA whereas both LG and Toshiba are using LG-Phillips panel. all are 768p panels. I'm not too sure if the VGA port of Sharp and Toshiba can take 1360x768 or 1368x768 from PC.

Sharp 42" 42BX5M. Best Quote RM 7,500

Samsung 40" LA40R71B.  Best Quote RM6,950

Toshiba 42" 42WL66E. Best quote RM 6,800

LG 42" 42LC2R. Best Quote RM6,000

what do you say??

u can choose either toshiba or samsung.........becoz i saw the quality....different and special REALLY nod.gif

I just bought a Sharp 32PX5M for RM3800 at Senq roadshow.

Since its upgrade from Panasonic 100HZ CRT, of course the difference is great as I use for HTPC. Only gripe is no DVI input, now on VGA connection. Colours are great, and the appearance also very nice, Piano FInish is very beautiful. Supports my X1300Pro resolution of 1360x768. When I play HD WMV clips it looks great too, so no regrets buying this panel.

Sound is untested cos I connect to my SonicGear 2.1 speakers.<- changing to Edifier E3300)

I saw in newspaper, a shop was having promotion, LG 37" LCD RM3988. But I when I went there to ask, they said out of stock. Makes me think that they actually advertise that to lure people to go then persuade them to buy other expensive models
*

It's the tactics that they apply. They will hardsell on on other models. doh.gif

I bought the 37" LG for RM4,299/- last month. Don't know about the current price. Chould be cheaper due to the intense competition.

Hav u got the correct setting (16:9) on both; LCD TV and DVDP? Mind you, there are some movies in panaromic widescreen (cinemascope). Even, if you play it on LCD TV, you still get balck bars on top and bottom. Only a little smaller bar compare to 4:3 TV, where u get big black bars. sweat.gif

yeah, only managed to fiddle around with the controls and settings today coz yesterday was bz, no time to check. i set the video output to 16:9 on my DVDP and it's done smile.gif but sad to say the PQ using AV cable not reli nice on LCD, i changed to S-Video and noticed slight improvement. at 1st the S-Video was for my ASTRO but i compared it using AV cable, not much difference, so i just use S-Video for DVDP and AV for ASTRO. the worst is my PS2, darn, the graphic is like PS1, i am looking for component cable for my PS2 now. thank u for helping notworthy.gif

Finally got my 1st tv yesterday.....and it's a LCD tongue.gif

Bought Sharp PX5M 32 inch. After comparing all the big players PQ on astro I and my wife agreed that Sharp and Toshiba are the best.Becoz the difference using composite and s-video not so noticeable (for amateurs like us tongue.gif ) so we decided to go for the Sharp. Other reasons are :

1. Freeze mode (my wife really attracted to this feature very much biggrin.gif )

2. Better design

3. Automatic backlight control (manual control my user also possible).

4. Replaceable backlight lamp

5. Fastest respond time in the class (6ms)

6. Extra 1 year warranty by Sharp rclxms.gif

p/s : Thanks all for all the advises and opinions thumbup.gif

The backlight is replaceable for all LCD makes too, only Plasmas can't be repaired, LCDs are mostly using CCFLs so they're replaceable but probably cost a bomb lah. I think by then, LCDs will be dirt cheap, you wouldn't wanna think of replacing it b'coz the expected lifespan is around 10 to 20 years if you watch averagely 4 to 8 hours daily. I guess that's a pretty long time frame for LCDs, isn't it?
