India Commissions Second Submarine-Killer Stealth Warship

QUOTE
The Kamorta-class corvettes’ primary mission will be anti-submarine warfare, but they can also be deployed in anti-surface warfare (AsuW) and anti-air warfare (AAW) missions. Consequently, the ships are equipped with a modern 16-cell vertical launching system (VLS) for firing Barak surface-to-air missiles and an OTO Melara 76 millimeter Super Rapid Gun Mount.

On the ship’s ASW capabilities, IHS Jane’s Navy International notes:

The ASW-focused combat system includes four heavyweight torpedo tube launchers and a pair of 12-barreled RBU6000 rocket depth-charge launchers featuring several design improvements incorporated by Larsen & Toubro. It is not known if the locally developed Mareech anti-torpedo decoy system has been installed. The fire-control system is the Bharat Electronics IAC Mod C system.

The ship is also equipped with a Humsa-NG bow-mounted sonar and will be fitted with an Atlas Elektronik towed array sonar system in due course. In addition, every Kamorta-class corvette can also accommodate one ASW helicopter.

Some 300 Indonesians to learn jet fighter production in South Korea

Kamis, 7 Januari 2016 23:26 WIB

Jakarta (ANTARA News) - Some 300 Indonesian aviation experts and technicians will leave for South Korea to learn the manufacture of KF-X/IF-X jet fighters.

"We will send 200 to 300 people to Korea," Budi Santoso, president director of state aircraft manufacturer PT Dirgantara Indonesia, said here on Thursday.

The sending of Indonesian aviation experts and technicians to South Korea is part of a contract between the two countries for joint manufacture of KF-X/IF-X jet fighters.

Under the contract, South Korea has agreed to finance 80 percent of the total costs to manufacture the jet fighters, while Indonesia will bear 20 percent of the production costs.

The Indonesian government is expected to spend Rp18 trillion on the project.

"Although we only have a 20 percent stake in the project, we will receive 100 percent of the knowledge to develop the plane. The transfer of technology will reach 100 percent instead of 20 percent," he said.

All the technicians will study the entire program for the manufacture of KF-X/IF-X jet fighters for three to four years in South Korea.

Defense Minister Ryamizard Ryacudu said 20 percent of people employed in the manufacture of the first unit of the jet fighters in South Korea will come from Indonesia and 50 percent in the manufacture of the second unit of such plane.

Meanwhile, 80 percent of workers to [produce KF-X/IF-X jet fighters in Indonesia will be Indonesians.(*)

Buried firearms and ammunition found in Kampung Tanduo, Lahad Datu

user posted image

Security forces found a number of firearms and ammunition buried in the former settlements in Tanduo village near here, yesterday. Weapons and ammunition were found in a package with a rusty condition believed to be hidden by the terrorists during the incursion in the village in February 2013.

Sabah Police Commissioner Datuk Abd Rashid Harun, said the discovery found two rifles, five pistols, more than 100 assorted bullets and also a pair of handcuffs. He said the items were found at 1pm by a team from the PDRM General Operations Force (GOF) conducted a follow-up inspection following information from the public.

"All firearms and ammunition are no longer useable due to the effects of corrosion, we believe they have been buried for more than two years.

The security forces will carry out efforts to detect the possibility of firearms hidden and buried in Kampung Tanduo and Felda Sahabat, Lahad Datu. He said he also urged those with information on terrorist activities to report to the authorities in order to enable the security forces to investigate.

"Although Ops Daulat have passed two years ago, we still pay attention to the public about any information submitted in connection to the intrusion and terrorist activities in Kampung Tanduo.

"Thanks to the information from the public, we can detect hidden weapons in the village Tanduo on Monday. Following the discovery, we will look elsewhere for possible hidden weapons ".

US Hellfire missile goes missing, winds up in Cuba

user posted image

In a bizarre series of events, a US Hellfire missile has turned up in Cuba after going missing in a fiasco that has left American officials worried the technology may be shared with China, Russia or North Korea, the Wall Street Journal reported.

Though the missile was not carrying a warhead, the alarming diversion while it was in transit from Europe has spurred US investigators to probe whether its arrival on the communist island was the result of criminal activity or merely a series of mistakes, according to the newspaper.

And despite a historic thaw in ties with Cuba over the past year, Washington has been unsuccessful in its push to get the missile back, the WSJ said, citing unnamed sources.

It reported that American officials were not concerned that Cuba would take apart the Hellfire -- an air-to-ground missile often carried by helicopters -- but were worried that Havana would share the technology with US rivals China and Russia, as well as North Korea.

CHINESE SOLDIERS HAVE LASER GUNS

user posted image

QUOTE
In combat, laser rifles would be useful for a wide variety of situations; soldiers in urban combat could use the PY132A, WJG-202 and BBQ-905 laser rifles to destroy the sensitive thermal imagers of enemy tanks or blind slow flying UAVs. Special forces could use them to knock out enemy security cameras and sabotage sensors. Such uses meet the international protocols in definition, but there are still concerns. When used against the sensors of manned aircraft such as attack helicopters, the beam scattering effect of all lasers, blinding ones included, means that pilots' eyeballs could become "collateral" damage.

Huge gains made in northern Latakia as the Syrian Army progresses through the snow

user posted image

The Syrian Arab Army’s 103rd Brigade of the Republican Guard took a brief hiatus over the holiday season in order to let the powerful snow storms engulfing the mountains of northern Latakia to pass by before they renewed their large-scale offensive in Jabal Al-Turkmen (Turkmen Mountains) and Jabal Al-Akrad (Kurdish Mountains).

On Thursday morning, the Syrian Arab Army’s 103rd Brigade – in coordination with the National Defense Forces (NDF) of Latakia City, the Syrian Social Nationalist Party (SSNP), and the Syrian Resistance – finally struck the Islamist rebels of Jabhat Al-Nusra (Syrian Al-Qaeda group) and the Free Syrian Army (FSA) at the southern rim of the Turkmen Mountains, killing several enemy combatants before capturing several hilltops and small villages.

According to a military source in northern Latakia, the Syrian Arab Army’s 103rd Brigade and their allies imposed full control over Ruweisat Abu Ghannam, Ruweisat Al-Sheikh Salman, Jabal Al-Hurrah, Jabal Beit Fares, and Al-Saraf after a series of intense firefights with the Islamist rebels of Jabhat Al-Nusra and the Free Syrian Army.

In addition to the capture of the aforementioned sites, the Syrian Armed Forces also captured points 465, 292, 387, 344, 489, and 296 from the Islamist rebels this morning; these points are located to the north of Jabal Beit Fares in the Turkmen Mountains.

Thursday marked the most successful day for the Syrian Armed Forces in the Latakia Governorate this year, as they captured over 60 square kilometers of territory from the Islamist rebels.

Vietnam's military is investigating the appearance of three mysterious metal balls -- believed to be debris from space -- which landed in the country's remote north, a senior army official said Friday.

Two metal balls were discovered in northwestern Yen Bai province on January 2, army spokesman Lieutenant General Vo Van Tuan told AFP.

Later a larger ball weighing some 45 kilograms (100 pounds) landed in a maize field in neighbouring Tuyen Quang province, he said.

Tahun Ini, TNI AD Terima Helikopter AH64E Apache

Sabtu, 09 Januari 2016 | 08:14 WIB

REPUBLIKA.CO.ID,JAKARTA -- Mabes TNI AD memesan delapan unit helikopter serang AH64E Apache ke pabrikan Boeing, Amerika Serikat (AS). Kontrak pengadaan itu disebut bernilai 295,8 juta dolar AS.

Air Force says drone crash in Iraq was an accident

user posted image

QUOTE
An MQ-1 Predator drone crashed Thursday in Iraq but was destroyed and is not in militant hands, the Air Force said in a news release Friday.

The remotely piloted aircraft was flying a combat mission when airmen lost control of the aircraft. The craft was not hit by enemy fire, the Air Force said, but an investigation is underway to determine the cause of the crash.

The incident occurred at 12:50 p.m. local time, or 4:50 a.m. EST.

No injuries or property damage have been reported at the site of the crash, the service said.
