An MV-22B Osprey aircraft experienced a landing mishap aboard the USS New Orleans Wednesday while conducting training, a spokesperson confirmed.

According to Capt. Brian “Scott” Villiard, public affairs officer with the 13th Marine Expeditionary Unit (MEU), the Osprey attached to the MEU was carrying 22 passengers and four aircrew members when it experienced a landing mishap at around 5 p.m., as the military aircraft was flying U.S. Marines back to the USS New Orleans from a non-combatant training event ashore.

All passengers and crew members were safe and uninjured in the incident, Capt. Villiard confirmed. The USS New Orleans was operating off the coast of Camp Pendleton near north San Diego County at the time of the incident.

“The investigation is currently being conducted by VMM-166 (Reinforced), the air combat element of the 13th MEU,” Capt. Villiard explained in an email to NBC 7 Thursday morning. “Details regarding damage and events surrounding the mishap will be determined by the investigation.”

The incident happened in Lahij Province early Saturday as the aircraft was trying to land at the al-Anad airbase, Arabic-language al-Ahd news website reported.

The Yemeni defense ministry confirmed the report, and said that the aircraft was completely destroyed after one of the missiles it was carrying exploded.

PETALING JAYA: Prime Minister Datuk Seri Najib Tun Razak has instructed for a Royal Malaysian Air Force C130 transport aircraft to be sent to Thailand to retrieve the remains of Malaysians killed in the Chiang Mai bus crash.

“At the same time, Malaysian officers from our embassy in Bangkok are already at the accident site to give victims and their families any form of help they need,” said the Najib in a Facebook post on Monday night.

Thirteen Malaysians were killed in a bus crash in Chiang Mai, Thailand on Sunday. They were among 22 Malaysian passengers on board the bus, which was travelling from Chiang Rai to Chiang Mai along Highway 118 when it crashed into another vehicle before falling into a ravine.

PETALING JAYA: The remains of the 13 Malaysians who perished in Sunday's bus crash in Chiang Mai were received by family members at the RMAF base in Subang early Wednesday.

The coffins bearing the remains of the victims arrived in a Royal Thai Air Force Hercules C130 plane which left Chiang Mai Military Airport at 10.55pm Tuesday and arrived at the base at 3.30am.

An RMAF Hercules C130 touched down minutes later with the next-of-kin of the deceased and a 61-year-old female survivor.

Volunteers from the Taiwan Tzu Chi Foundation Malaysia were at the base to comfort the bereaved family members.

The caskets were brought out of the plane with the last one at about 4.20am. Each were placed in a hearse which later made their journey to Batu Pahat, Johor where all the victims came from.

The crash took place about 50 km east of the capital, according to the source.

A sheriff says the body of a fifth international soldier from Fort Leonard Wood who died in weekend flooding has been found.

Pulaski County Sheriff Ron Long said the soldier's body was recovered Tuesday. He was with four other soldiers who drowned in Pulaski County Saturday.

The bodies of the other four soldiers were recovered earlier.

Long says a Missouri State Highway Patrol trooper spotted the soldier's body Tuesday about six miles from where the soldiers' vehicle was swept away.

The soldiers were on a temporary assignment at Fort Leonard Wood. Their names and native countries have not been released.

The five soldiers were among 13 people who have drowned in flooding in Missouri since the weekend. Twelve were in vehicles that drove into flooded roads.

RIYADH, Saudi Arabia (AP) — Saudi Arabia says a Bahraini pilot who was flying for a kingdom-led coalition battling Shiite rebels in Yemen has survived a plane crash caused by a technical failure.

The state-run Saudi Press Agency carried a statement from the kingdom's military saying the F-16 crashed on Wednesday in Jizan province. It did not elaborate.
