Yup, you should really consider the Sony Xperia Z5 Compact. It's the best compact phone at the moment.

4.6" screen size is not that big and it's still compact enough even if you have small hands, you should try it in the stores to know whether if it suits you.

I find MotoG (and the Xperia Compact) too big for me

Tough luck then, there's only the iPhone SE that has good specs in a compact size.

When it comes to Android, there are only low end phones that have below 4.3" screen size.

1. Brand: prefer samsung, but can consider other as well
2. Budget. RM1500 and below
3. Specs. Generally I am looking for the first smartphone for my father, perhaps can get a phone which is not so lag.
4. Type/Size. Around iphone 6s size

I believe the Samsung S7 Edge is better because is water and dust resistant, and has withstood over 7 hours underwater in tests. This is a major advantage over an iPhone, which can short circuit if dropped in water.
