anyway, did some checking around some of the tyre shops in my place on some brands such as michelin and yokohama.....

looks like the price is on average about 20-30 ringgit more expensive now compared to about 6 months ago.

i believe this price list is at least 6 months old on some of the price. others might be more updated. i was referring to the spec below:-

nice thread....at least it gave a rough idea on how much each tyre cost, just becareful of Tek Miing in sunway, the price that they quote to you is based on you trade in the same size of tyre to them.

Eg. If u goin to buy a 16" tyre from them for RM250, you have to trade in 16" tyre with them, otherwise it will be more exp. than RM250

well if you are experience driver, you know that usually it comes free.

some shops i know will not provide this for free especially if they know you are new to all this. got one shop i go to thought that I just start to drive because the P sticker on my car, which was actually because of my brother just got his license. he said i have to top up for alignment and balancing even buying 4 tyres from him. i straight away walked out of the shop and go to others. no need to waste time with shops that are not sincere to customers. when i was walking out he shouted he would give the sevice for free but its too late liao. he just lost one customer. summore his tyres are rm10 more expensive per piece than the other shop that i bought my tyres from.

not sure about yokohama though.

You know where is Sunway college? The Side gate of Sunway college is PJS11/9. Teik Meng is behind the road... Same ROW as N1 Racing, Food Court and AMOIL.

Forgotten to Add... DON"T GO to BAN HOOI TYRES KLANG... The dishonest tyre shop have 5 outlets around Klang... Price is Averaged, Goodyear tyres are quite cheap there... Goodyear Eagle F1 GSD3 was priced RM370 for thai made and RM400 for German Made. 215/45R17 tyres. Go there ONLY for Goodyears, other tyres are "NOT FRESH".

I bought a Set of Hankook Ventus K104 tyres from them at RM280 per piece... After 1 month only my friend teached me to see the tyres date of production. I WAS DAMN Pissed... It was made in 2004. (Bought Sept)...

Walau... Keep stock for 2 years de...

planning to change to XM1 end of this month after my long serving stock tire from nissan (dunlop) has last me more than 70,000KM...

will post some thoughts on this after i've changed...

I had already called "tek ming, sunway" they said the prices they offer need to trade in ur old tyre.. If without trade in, the price would back to normal, like price with trade in is rm90, without trade in is around 110-130..

ok.. here's a neat explanation for what ever on the sidewall...

TREADWEAR = means how soft/hard the tire is.
- above 280 is quite hard tires and good for economy and cruising.
- 200 to 280 is considered softer tires and mostly performance based tires.
- under 200 is soft compounds, i.e Advan Neova, RE01R. Sticky tires. don't last long though.

the numbers...

for example 215/45/17 88V

215 means 215mm width
45 means sidewall is 45% of width
17 means tyre size
88 is load index (load index is the maximum kg per wheel.)
V is speed rating. there's V (up to 230kmh), W (up to 230kmh), Z (up to 250kmh), ZR(up to 280kmh) even R and S.

if u look carefully, there's one portion that'll stamp something like XXXX4606 (XXXX is some numbers and letter, i.e 2E4A4606) just need the last 4 digits, meaning 46 week of 2006 (date of manufactured) but sometimes they only print the 4 digits.

it's how tall the sidewall is. for example,

215/45/17...

tire width is 215mm
sidewall is 45% of that, = 96.75mm

don't believe me? go and measure it.

anyway, someone pointed out about the load index on tires. i've edited my earlier post.

hmm.. how the hell to tell shelf-life? generally, do not buy new tires which has been more than 2 years old.
