Hi guys

I have graduated a few months ago from a foreign university in Malaysia with first class but I didn't involve in any CCAs. However, I did my internship with one of the local banks in internal audit department.

After I graduated, I take up ICAEW on my own as a independent student and have passed 2 professional level papers; leaving last 5 papers. I kind of regretting over my decision to take ICAEW as it restricts me in my job searching.

I would like to work in big firms like B4. However, I have been hesitating to apply as I don't think I will pass the interview as in my case I don't really have any experience or examples which demonstrate my leadership, interpersonal, presentation, problem-solving skills and etc.

I have been thinking to get a job at a mid tier firm first, in order to gain some working experience in external  auditing, would help me to get into B4.
*
Trust me, big 4 will fight over you. Why? 1) a foreign uni graduate 2) first class honours 3) icaew.

Apply for a fresh graduate position and they don't expect you to have lots of experience in leadership etc. I'm sure you have participated in co-curriculum activities. You can tell some of those experiences. Heck, you can also tell them your experience in group assignments, how you lead your team on a research etc. However, If you have not joined even one activity, then big 4 might be a little hesitant.

Also why it's good to apply b4 and not the mid-term firm route? Because b4 will discount 1 year of your experience. Example, if you worked for 3 years in mid tier and is already a senior there, then you apply for b4, don't expect a senior position. Because they won't give you. You'll only get at most a second year associate position.

Also, why are you doubting yourself? This is no longer a university life. You have to have that confidence everywhere, be it for b4 or mid tier firms.

And this is to clarify to everyone what he mentioned about icaew restricting job searching, he meant that we can only apply jobs in an approved firm. Or icaew will not recognise the working experience needed to be an ACA member.

And also if it makes you feel better, I graduated in a local uni with only second upper and I'm still able to get a job in big 4. So don't worry. Just impress them during interview. You'll be fine!

(ps: I'm also an icaew student)

Cheers!

Thanks for your advice and trying to make me feel better. I have never thought that getting first class will make me better than others. In fact, many of my friends who graduated from local uni are able to secure their job in big 4, banks and other MNCs. May I know whether you are currently at the advanced level and undergoing training?

Besides that, my command of English is not good enough, especially in speaking and writing. I do have difficulties in speaking and writing fluently. Will it be a problem getting into or when working in big 4 ? Pls advise.

I currently work in a small audit firm with 1year experience and recently get an offer from Grant Thornton as audit associate one. At the meanwhile I am trying to apply for Big4. I m dilemma in whether should I accept the offer from Grant Thornton first or stay back in my current firm and wait for the feedback from Big4? Any advice here?

Hi guys,

I've passed kpmg's online assessment last week and HR said they'll contact me when the group audit interview date is set.

Any idea when the interview will be held? I'm trying to squeeze in vacation before the interview. Tried calling them but no answer.

Hi guys! I am a recent graduate of acc and finance. I have always interested in joining audit field. I have just went to PwC final interview on 2nd of August. They say they will reply maximum by 2 weeks. During that interview, the senior manager kept on asking on past experience and how I dealt with the challenges and conflicts. I am not sure whether I will make it through. Anyone know how long will they respond? Besides, I just did KPMG online assessment on 31st of July. I still havent received any call yet. How long will they contact you? And also, I got accepted by Baker Tilly. They only allow me to respond to them by next week. I am in a dilemma now. Should I follow up with PwC next week? I need advice. Thank You in advance! smile.gif

You will be facing clients if you work in the BIG4s, and thus a good command in English should be mandatory.

Hi Maggie95,

I got a call about 3 days after I completed the assessment. It shouldn't be long I guess. Look out for a mobile phone number instead of landline. I didn't expect them to call using a mobile num so I didn't answer sweat.gif
Good thing they called again the next day.

Hi Tancw95!

Do u wanna try Baker Tilly? They offer RM2800 of gross salary. When I went to group interview, all of candidates are ACCA holders. Some of them are the same case as you. I hope it helps. Good Luck! smile.gif
