I've passed kpmg's online assessment last week and HR said they'll contact me when the group audit interview date is set.

Any idea when the interview will be held? I'm trying to squeeze in vacation before the interview. Tried calling them but no answer.

I got a call about 3 days after I completed the assessment. It shouldn't be long I guess. Look out for a mobile phone number instead of landline. I didn't expect them to call using a mobile num so I didn't answer

Definitely follow up with pwc. Call them and ask. The worse you can do is to bug them which is fine, at least you can get an answer soon

I have just graduated with degree and completed 13 out of 14 papers in ACCA.

May I know the average salary with my qualification? recently i got job offer with 2.4k during probabtion, should i accept it ?

I still got 2 more interviews in august.

Well, the reason I'm writing this post is because I haven't really seen anyone post a full rejection story so I'll gladly share mine to help out any other poor or suffering soul who is stuck in the same situation as I was. This story in particular is about PwC which was my first choice (that's why very sad la T_T)

I wrote a post about whether to give up on my PwC application some time ago. I applied in June, tried calling like crazy in July but just could not get through. Luckily, I was advised in this forum to try in August. My phone call managed to get through in August and they told me that the next intake is in December but I would get a call in September if I made it otherwise I could call back. They only have selected intakes per year and the closing date for each intake is quite early. My application in June would mean that it would be considered for next upcoming intake in December.

So, I finally made the big call today (though I already kind of knew I was probably not selected) and it took me a few tries to finally get through to the department + connected to the recruiter in charged. The recruiter was pretty busy (internship recruitment period too I guess) so my morning call was wasted but I was told to call back around lunchtime. I did that and she was on the line - so I was told to call back like half and hour later. I did but line didn't go through, took me about a few more tries before I was lucky.

The recruiter was very busy but nice enough to answer my questions (I'm not going to reveal her name here but yes, it was a lady recruiter). I asked about my application status and I was told that their next intake is in January 2018. Reason given was that they had only a few positions available in December which is already full. She also mentioned that I made it for the January intake, I would receive a call at the end of this month/early next and also kindly reminded me to update my PwC profile. Of course I was not so silly to not be able to read in between the lines that I was not selected.

I was feeling a bit dejected just now. Since receiving my "we're currently reviewing your application" in June about 2 weeks from my application date, I had some hope that I might make it. At least I did not receive a straight-out "we don't have a position that matches your qualification" email like my friend. But looking back, maybe that would have been better from the start rather than waiting and hoping like crazy. sighs  Even till the end, I was not rejected outright (which I don't know to feel thankful for or cry about it).

i was really hoping for PwC though I was only a second class upper + knowing it's super hard to get into PwC but yes, fingers crossed for another firm

Anyone got any news about the upcoming interview date for KPMG? HR told me next intake is October and interview date TBC but now already Oct lol

Got rejected by KP, my qualifications are as follow:

1. ACCA, completed 4/5 Professional papers, pending Oct result for last paper.
2. Degree, 3.1 cgpa, pending Oct result and very sure will go to 3.2, which is their cgpa threshold.

The e-mail said my qualifications are not up to par with others, thus reject.
I made aware of the above info to interviewers too, but looks like it's no use, on the surface they said my qualification is ok, but seems like they actually want official qualifications.
Also, interview day itself, I know some people only have degree, I don't understand why my qualification is inferior, I did well during interview though, sigh...

I thought 4/5 acca papers is going to cover me, but nope.
Gonna try again after I officially hold both Acca and degree.

Its the reverse. Big4 might not hiring someone who already having Acca or ICaew qualification (jz a portion). This is because the turnover rate is very high for those candidates. Those candidates will not have any contract or bond with company and this mean that if they can't handle the pressure, then they just quit easily.

However, for those without professional qualification, they ARE require to complete it and make contract with big4 in return of years of services. This mean that those candidate will be last longer than others and lessen the work of re-hiring.

This is why for permanent position, they are usually aim for the best of the best candidate so that even though they resign but they did provide excellent service to Big4.     

In my view, working experience beats paper qualification in most cases when comes to jobs (especially for experienced hire). Imagine if you are hiring a CEO, will you ask which university he came from? I think a degree / professional cert just shows that you can learn and graduated in a controlled environment. Hence, I agree that companies like Big4 treasures internship more than your paper qualification. This is based on the assumption where Big4 don’t simply accept interns and your internship is meaningful (not photocopy).

Higher qualification means nothing to the employer as there is no research indicates that the student can translate what he learn from textbook to work. I take ACCA professional paper for example in the following (syllabus might change during my time)

1) P1 Ethics: Ethics are moral code rather than skill
2) P2 reporting: You are not doing reporting but audit so unlikely you will need it but adequate understanding of dr & cr and what are console adjustments. And accounting standards.
3) P3 Business: Hardly ever used unless you are in management consulting side of Big4
4) P4 Finance: Irrelevant unless you in CF Big4
5) P5 PM: Unsure and never encounter
6) P6 Tax: As auditor you are not required but good if you familiar with deferred tax and  tax comp
7) P7 Audit: Too theoretical

As you can see, even ACCA is hardly relevant? However, a high achiever normally are driven by their competitive nature and this is very good motivation if you want to survive in a place where people work until 2AM during peak period.

In my view, it’s much easier for HR to filter based on those that has completed prof qualification / degree than asking all the technical questions. I think it’s more important for fresh grad to display the ability and willingness to learn and work. As I see hundreds of people joining Big4 on yearly basis, HR is bogged down with application process compared to other company. Wouldn’t it be simpler just filter like who pass ACCA go to tray 1, foreign degree tray 2, local degree tray 3, …..

Im nt sure abt kp but I think pwc if u apply now and ur intake will be nxt year (first half of the year but im nt sure exactly which month). They will forward u an email to indicate ur intake right after u apply online. pwc haha! Cuz im kinda suck in group interview >.<
