Guys, I would like to ask the salary range for advisory roles (particularly Corporate finance, M&A) for big 4, associate, senior associate level etc. I'm applying for advisory positions with 2 years audit experience from a mid-tier firm. Thanks.

Is it possible to get into big 4 with cgpa lower than 3 but am ACCA holder?

Take a similar role from their assurance division salary plus 15% to 30%.

I guess u ranked it based on net profit? Im ranking it based on overall, including culture, salary, exit opportunities, etc etc.

I was just talking to a colleague about this today.
Someone mentioned to me BDO being No.4 is based on Audit Revenue only.

Don't know how true is that but when I first heard it, my first thought was, "based on what statistics?"...

BDO always claiming themself as the 4th largest firm in term of AUDIT, which i found is ridiculous. Having large market share doesn't mean it is big. And, big 4 are big in term of audit, tax, advisory and etc, not just audit, so they called themselves as a professional services firm instead of audit firm. For me, if given a choice, BDO will never in my list, no matter how, mid firm is still mid firm, the exit opportunity is far different than the big 4's.

BTW, i chose KPMG, heard their culture is much better than Deloitte. Deloitte's people are quite lansi.

BDO is 4th in Malaysia, like it or not. I'm not working for BDO just telling it's a fact. It's a norm to rank a company based on revenue same as fortune 500 companies heck even big 4 world ranking use the same metric.

The Big4 there main services are audit, tax and advisory. For the first 2 service, they are the market leader in most of the world and hold over 90% of the market shares combined. For the last service, it’s an additional service provided to clients and it’s the smallest service but growing rapidly. Audit and tax are already stagnating and considered cash cow for them. Big4 are large middle players in most advisory fields but will lose out to specialised management consulting or technology firms.

Back to MYS, one of the Big4 had many scandals in the past (and current) that makes them fall of the ranking altogether. That’s why you see BDO move up the ranks. One of the key partner from BDO is also an ex-Big4 partner that bring a lot of clients and staffs to cross over.

Ranking who is better have limited traction for staffs as most companies don’t care which firm you come from as long as its Big4(or 5). It matters to the audit partners as local banks prefer companies to appoint Big4 auditors for loan application. That doesn’t stop some big companies from using other than Big4 though (Hint: It starts with Y).

You sure BDO's revenue is 4th in Malaysia? Where you get the facts from? LOL. Dont get brainwashed by BDO, I know their HR used to do it. People who joined BDO is because they cant join Big 4.

It is based on market cap and revenue. I'm working for deloitte, and i agree this haha.

It's very basic, don't worry too much about it. You'll be put in a room and given an hour to do a few objective questions (mathematics, logic), and then write 2 short essays at the end (you can choose from a few topics). Nothing to fret about.
