I reckon that you might have a greater starting point to begin with.
I might not be on point as I myself is not from the IT Industry.

Don't know. Cashier, etc. Not even store manager. He got between RM1800-RM2000 per month depending on OT. He had a diploma. But no experience related to retail what-so-ever.

No idea. Just pop in to your nearest 99 Speedmart for accurate info. biggrin.gif. Another interesting information that I got from my friends is they only hire Malaysians. But that was two years ago. So don't know if it is still true now.

Job Title : Interior Designer
Job Desciption : Interior design to project coordinator
Years spent in company : 10 months
Company : sdn bhd
Industry : Renovation & Design
Tenure : Permanent
Employment Level : Fresh
Experience before joining : 3 months intern
Highest paper qualification/ education background : Diploma
Salary : 2200

I felt like I am sort of underpaid. Theres no commission & bonus. Starting my mindset was like, just get a job first.. Don't care about pay & earn experience. Now I sort of regretted. I rejected a 2.5k job because I thought this place have better 'working environment' which is very wrong.

Before I jump ship, what's the reasonable salary to expect with a 1 year experience? If I put my expected salary as 2.8k will the future employer shock of the increase?

Stay for a year. It's better for your resume.

Rule of thumb for fresh grad is 2.5k although it varies depending on industry.

Honestly, I think 2.8k is reasonable for someone with one year of experience under their belt. My suggestion: put 3k, and put negotiable in brackets beside that.

That way, even if your employer wants to press, you will still get your desired salary.

Location?

If it's in KL, that's a pretty lousy pay.

Some freshies can already command 3.5k as programmer.

If u put 1 year experience and you can justify that with knowledge in that job, 2.8K is reasonable to ask. I do recruit fresh grad (hiring manager, not HR. dont PM me) and we usually offer between 2.5-2.7k

i think experience will be more important. if you have niche skills or very sought after skillset, or in a niche industry doing specialised stuff. experience first, money will come later. just like in our industry. low pay at first. but you can be easily making 20k - 30k mark when you made it to the team leader positions.

many of my friends who make so much more than me during their first few years are now behind me, not by much, diff of only 2-3k at most, but the gap will be bigger in the next couple of years. my first 4 years only make less than 5k (also, because I started at the wrong place). now fast forward, making so much more. Accelerated triple digits in percentage growth in the past 3 years.
