I think the Silverstone's rather overkill. Acbel 450W or Coolermaster iGreen 500W (depends on pricing) are good enough.

splurge as much money as you can afford on your psus, it will last through multiple upgrades, and also lasts you a few years. So splurge as much as you can afford! Why would you buy a psu that is just right for your system, and during the next upgrade, you suddenly feel, shit my psu is not enough, then u'll have to upgrade your psu along.

might want to take that statement back as psu's can go as expensive as rm2k+ per psu. (lol watercooled PSU's)

So splurge as much as you can afford, means, if it's a ridiculous price like 2k obviously don't get it. What I am talking about is like if it's like is if you can pay 20 - 30% more why not? Psus are usually overlooked by most people. But they are really important, in my opinion. I used to have this cheap psu that comes with the case, after 1 year, one of the wires for some reason melted, and then it somehow touch the motherboard, and my whole pc would not start and at that time, it was my final semester, and I was in a rush to hand in some projects, but luckily, i backup my files in gmail, or i'd be stressed to death. So conclusion: Don't skimp, a dead power supply can be deadly!

i dont deny that one should invest in their PSUs and PSUs are important to your system, but the fact that MANY in LYN if i may dare say even you tend to over exaggerate the importance of a PSU way too much.

hell im actually fine with cap ayams but replacing it got too tedious and i settled for a ST400 just recently, just so i dont have to go through the whole cabling crap again.

point was, yes psus are important, but lets not forget what are their main purpose, which is to supply power (lol duh) to your PC, and rm 45 cap ayams can do that just the same as those rm2k psus, only difference is quality, effeciency, and stability of the power delivered and so on.

unless ur gonna put a ton of HDD/CD or DVD drivers or burners or fans etc etc, its more than enough for the average users. if you want to know for sure, count how many 4 pin power connectors you need, and look up the ST400 specs how many 4 pin connectors they offer.

U can always buy molex to SaTa power supplies cable, most PC shops selling it.

Guys, I need a PSU that can handle a HD2900XT. (no nVidia this time until they fix their drivers, the free games make me drool, and I need to dry my school shoes using the outlet air laugh.gif )

Coupled with specs like a X2 3800+ Brisbane (mild OC), 1/2GBs of DDR2, 2 HDDs and a Combo writer, an nForce 5 mobo, and 2 slower fans.

Can the Extreme Power 550W/600W handle it? I'm on a VERY tight budget here.

(I saw from another forum that an E6600 overclocked and a HD2900XT overclocked with 1 HDD and motherboard needs 400W. Would mine be moderately lower IF I run the 2900XT at stock [I might OC it if my shoes don't dry fast enough] and OC the 3800+ slightly?)

At this point I don't think I can afford the Stryder 560W, the 400F I'm also interested in. It does 29A on +12V (enough on 2900?) and combined load (348W) is nice, but I still fear that headroom is wayy too little. The Extreme Power 600W is actual 500W Real power and that has headroom, but is more expansive.

And there's another solution- get the Thermaltake 200W Graphics PSU + my cap ayam or smaller wattage real power PSU.
200W on the Thermaltake, 350W on my mains. Is this better?

its quite easy the difference. ST405 doesn't hv PCI-E plug.ST400 has PCI-E plug.or vice versa.someone pls confirm wif me.

can u afford acbel 500W PSU?its 300 bucks or less at prestigeIT at lowyat.i'm not trying to promote anything though.but i recommend u FSP Epsilon 600W if u hv a 2900XT.tht GC is the highest power consumption GC at the moment i guess.dun buy any of the CoolerMaster ExtremePower series.its a total scam i heard.they fix a 500W pSU into their 600W extremePower series according to a forumer here.

if u need 400W according to tht calc, dun buy exactly at 400W.ur PSU wont output 100%.its around 70-80% only most of the time.and dun forget,ur PSU will get older and their capacitors will get less efficient also.

Elipsons are way over my budget. =(
The aim is just to get my initial budget on parents cheaper while making it still usable, while I get another PSU myself.

Any comments on the Thermaltake solution? 250W @RM185 + A cheaper PSU (FSP Saga?) at 350/400W that I can get myself later.

My Acbel 550W LCD fan sensor died after two weeks, so now the LCD just keeps beeping saying its 0 RPM, while actually, the PSU is running fine. Still, says something about the reliability. That's just two weeks of minimal usage, since I switched it on mostly for transferring files.

dont buy any thermaltake PSU other than the toughpower series. they are pretty poor in quality and only offer unnessesary blings.

i havent check up the new pure power series (low wattage/budget psu's) but it does seems promising.

It's not the 400W++ PSUs, those have warning signs plastered all over 'em.

This one is a seperate 250W/300 Peak just for graphics. To think of it, 250W is not hard to do at all, even in a smaller space. It should be pretty good too, being SLi certified (that one was a shock biggrin.gif)

There are only 2 PSUs that I know that does graphics seperately- this one and Fortron's 300W. Both SLi certified, and IMHO seperating CPU and GPU power usage is the way to go.
