oh ok... then why many more expensive PSU are modular type? But at the same time it is less reliable?
*
Well, modular are surely going to be expensive but take a look at those top PSU (especially 1k Watt), they are all non modular.

Added on June 1, 2007, 10:08 amguys need help to make decision today...
at last i decided to take 450+-w psu...
so which one should i take?

acbel ipower 450w or enermax fmaII 460w ??
stability and RELIABILITY is the main priority..

Added on June 3, 2007, 2:11 pmi bought enermax FMAII 460w yesterday, but after setup everything, my pc cant boot...went to lowyat again today but they test can boot...maybe compatibility problem with biostar tforce 6100? so no more enermax for me forever...

so i changed to acbel ipower 450w and its working...but y the power fluctuates all the time especially when playing 3d game...same like my chapalang 450w only...sad

notice a general misconception in PSU power rating selection.

the selected PSU should always have a 25% ~ 30% buffer / head room (extra power!).
Running a PSU close to it's rated max power will certainly shorten the life of the PSU. the wording "Max" power output is there for a reason, running it at the rated max is pushing the PSU to its borderline, and shall in turn degrade the caps and transformer quicker than it should.
not to forget, when running applications / games at full load, it will draw additional % of power compared to the required power when the system is sitting idle.

i was manage to degrade (read: spoiled) a thermaltake 430w purepower with s754+A64, 3 hdd (2 pata, 1 sata), 2 dvd burners, and various USB devices..
it still works, but one of the burner would refuse to power up properly with all these in. HDD may have abnormally long detection time during BIOS POST too.

my advice is to do power rating calculations with online power consumption calculators, and decide the necessary power rating from there..

here's quite a good one to start with.
dun be surprise if the resulting power requirements make yr jaw drop..

Hi, just want to ask, what makes a PSU is better than the other? I was once said that it is the amp of the PSU makes it is better than the other, is it?

If I choose CM iGreen 550W over Silverstone ST56F, is there a wide gap in performance, durability and reliability? And of course, I'm talking about OCing as well, about 25 - 50% of increase in cpu performance hopefully

Need some oppinion here, would it be better to get a high wattage PSU but not deemed true power or get a lower wattage one that is true power?

For example, in comparison between these :

CM Extreme Power 430W and FSP 350W. Which would be better?

IMHO, for normal use better go for high watt w/o true power like CM extreme or ayam brand or any PSU will do. For OCing, better go for true power which supports enough watt for the system smile.gif

I dunno about FSP, normally for non-real power, eg the extreme power 430W, the max. output would be 400W iinm, while a Real Power 400W would output the same 400W. Extremepower is considered the best non-real power, this site has rated it as the best thumbup.gif
http://www.overclockers.com.au/wiki/Power_...y_Unit#The_Best

however, I think that CM realpower has really low current output on 12V. On real power, I recommend Silverstone in any case

the extreme power 430 can be used to power a C2D with single 7900GT, and theoretically it can still support 8800GTS single card.

Actually i am thinking of FSP as well. The price for the 400W version seems to be good at RM135. If its confirmed real power, then i guess that would be my best choice unless there is anything else better below the budget of RM150. CM Extreme Power wise, i guess if its able to handle those high end system, it should be able to handle the upcoming rig at these specs:

AMD X2 3600+ AM2
Biostar TForce Mobo
7300GT/8500GE
1 sound card
250gb HDD
DVDRW
a couple of fans

430W Extreme Power should be enough right?

Yea, i have seen review as well stating its able to handle the 8800 series so, not sure how "crap" they are..LOL..Ocing wise, yea, maybe they are not stable and reliable enough but i guess for normal usage (low end rig wise), it should be enough. So, its wise to get the Extreme or the FSP?

At that specs and for normal usage or BT 24/7, CM extreme should be no prob but absolute no no to hardcore OCing biggrin.gif

If Silverstone Element 400W cost RM170 only, then i will sure grab a Silverstone over RealPower/ ExtremePower.
Silverstone got better and stable 12V rails, solid components, high efficiency (energy saving) and cool look with good reputation. u wont regreat with it.
