how can i know that PSu was true power or not? how to know just looking at price list? need to read at the box also? or the review?
First look at the price... a typical 400W+ "true power" PSU costs at around RM150 or more. Compare this price with those typical "400W+" cap ayam PSUs which usually costs around RM50 or lower. See the difference?
Looking at the box tells little usually (some cap ayam even comes with box too), but look for its power ratings such as how much current it can supply on its rails. Check the +12V rail especially because nowadays most of the power is taken from there.
Example: AcBel 470W (real power 420W)
For "true power" typically we look for known brands like AcBel, Antec, CoolerMaster, Corsair, Delta, Enermax, Enlight, Fortron, HEC, PC Power Cooling, Silverstone, Tagan, OCZ, etc.. Some PSU are "true wattage" (can supply real/continuous power at its rated wattage), while some others are rated by their peak/maximum power. Those rated by their peak/maximum power typically can supply real/continuous power close to its rated wattage.
Cap ayam: PowerLogic Magnum "450W" (real power 230W only)
True wattage: Enlight 420W (High Power OEM)

picture of my old (retired) PSU..
Notice the big difference in current (A) rating on the rails between cap ayam PSU and the true wattage PSU?
Note: Typically cap ayam PSUs can only supply about HALF of its rated wattage. See
