Good value from a buyer's point. There are many parts available online which are very reasonable. Mostly china-made. I have tried a few & found them good. In fact some are even better than original, meaning seems to last longer.

If you buy this car find a good Peugeot mechanic. There are some excellent Peugeot workshops in Klang Valley. Never go to Peugeot Service Center for anything! Many owners make the mistake of solely relying on SC and then complain this car is problematic.

I reckon 5 - 6K additional from purchase is sufficient. The most costly item is the aircon. This aircon needs to be serviced every year if you want it to last.

This engine is an update version. Its code is ep6dtm, came on 2012. Basically it carries 8 modifications which has made the engine reliable. I have posted all 8 mods in pg1 of this thread, if you are interested.

These mods have made this engine reliable compared to the older versions. The gearbox is from Aisin, Japanese GB manufacturer. As a result this engine\gb combo is very reliable. I'm on my 12th year.

I would advise a decarbo, turbo refurbish with major service. thumbsup.gif Have the air con checked out before buying. Almost all have changed aircons units. Even if the owner tells you he just changed & you feel air is cold, I strongly advise a chk with air con specialist. I can post air con specialist contact if you need.

I am also 1st owner, 2012 thp., 112000km. No issues everything woking well. I like to hear FC's from owners. Mine now 12 years, city fc has increased. Outstation is still pretty decent. Intending to do a decarbo, this will improve FC.

City : 9.5km/liter
Outstn : 14.8km/liter

Indication at your instrumental panel may be liters/100km. Post it & I'll convert for you.

Im deciding between a Peugeot 408(2015) and 508(2013).
Price almost the same.

I heard 508 got quite a lot of issuesdue to too much digital. how about 408?

Is 408 using aisin gearbox?

Both cars share the same Prince 1.6turbo engine, but different version. Both use Aisin 6 spd gb. This GB is very reliable.

508 (2013) Engine - EP6CDT 155hp.
Engine tends to build carbon deposits quickly. Needs decarbonizing every 50K to keep engine running healthy. High use of electronics in cabin which need replacement, but not very expensive. Luxury D segment family sedan.

408thp (2015) - EP6CDTM 163hp
8 mods incorporated to combat carbon deposit buildup. Cabin has less electroincs. Sports tunned chassis gives this model sporty handling. Surprising interior space for C segment car.

I'd suggest 508 2015 model. Engine is upgraded to EP6CDTM which gives it a bit more reliability.

Did a quick google search about this (I'm interested in 408 as well), it seems there's some issues with the 1.2T engine, while there's not much report about common issues with the 1.6. However most people (those in Europe) recommends the diesel option over both of them if its available. Its very hard to get proper info also because the 1.6T with 218hp we are getting is not available in Europe apparently...

Btw 408 brochure can be download now, with official spec

https://www.peugeot.com.my/our-range/nouvel...ugeot-4081.html

Judging from the hint its gonna be priced between Civic and Accord.... I assume its anywhere from 140k - 190k for the highest spec. In that case I think the middle Premium spec is a bargain for 218hp + 8AT and full safety features. But also a bit worrying going into the brand after hearing all the stories....

I think same reliability as the THP versions. To be honest, I've not followed up on this version. Latest 408 is a little too pricy for me.

Rule of thumb, buy used or 2nd year with massive rebates
