I'm looking forward to get a used Peugeot 408 1.6THP or 2.0 NA.

I found that some people are spending average of rm5k to 10k every year to maintain a Peugeot. Is it because the parts are expensive when source locally? Or is it because the same parts keep failing? Or it is because parts replacement are too labor intensive? Or it just because service center charges cost a bomb?

I have been reading the thread for hours and seems like only some parts are prone to fail:
1) aircon compressor
2) cooling coil. Parts is cheap but removing dashboard just to access it is no fun.
3)tubo valve replacement.
4)turbo kit, seems problematic on 3008 and 308,does it happen to 408 as well?
5) high pressure fuel pump (already in enhancement program so should be no problem anymore, right?)
6) sensors (abs, water temp and etc.)

Anything I miss out here? Would really appreciate any honest clarification.

Bro, please stick to the 1.6 turbo. It has extra 2 years warranty which will cover ALL of the problematic items you listed (except for ABS sensor). I also bought a used 408t. So far I only spent money on changing the ABS sensor. The rest is in tip-top condition after I submitted the 9 item recall/enhancement program. I claimed warranty on the valve cover, dump valve and turbo inlet pipe - they fitted a new improved version of it. I didn't even spend money on tires. There was one old balding tire that I just swapped with the spare tire in the trunk (which was still unused, full tread!). This used C-Segment conti car is cheaper than a used B-segment japanese of the same age/mileage, plus with extra 2 years warranty. It's so cheap I managed to buy it cash, so i even saved from paying bank loan interest.
*
Thanks for the information. Can I know if one still able to enjoy the extended 2 years warranty (5+2) in case if the previous warranty is not valid anymore? let say a 5 years old car, but owner stoped sending the car to SC 3 years after owning the car.

Other than turbo kits and high pressure fuel pump are much more expensive, I find other prone to fail parts are pretty cheap. Unless those tiny parts keep failing after replacement, otherwise it does not really cost much to keep. Oh, maybe cooling coil might be an issue, labor cost is higher than the part.

I'm considering the 2.0 version is mainly dues to the turbo kit and high pressure fuel pump. If these 2 could last for years, then I guess the 1.6 thp is a winner over 2.0 NA.

You will still get the 2 year extra warranty as long as the car has not been modified. Turbo and fuel pump are covered under warranty. They will replace with a new design that is much more reliable. Cooling coil is a non-issue also because you can just submit for the recall and get a brand spanking new cooling coil blowing cold fresh air to the cabin. The 2.0NA is dino car by 2018 standards... old engine and 4-speed gearbox. If you browse this thread and the 408 facebook page, many owners regret the 2.0 having problems and need to spend money coz no longer under warranty.

turbo: 9 items under recall so you can get 9 new parts for free plus the 2 year extra warranty.
2.0: i think only 5-6 parts recall, and no extra warranty. forget the 4th & 5th year warranty, it is waste of time and money coz you have to constantly service at their SC.
*
Extra 2 years warranty is given even though ex owner does not service the car in SC? That's interesting and tempting.

Guess I will start to look for a unit. I was thinking to get one with full service record but since the extra 2 years warranty is given to car which the warranty was void, then service record is not a must then. Thank you very much for letting me know.

Speak of the 6 speed AT, does it share the same transmission with Peugeot 308 turbo? I remember I read somewhere 308 has transmission issue. Any idea?

Please noted that the extra 2 years warranty is only valid for those 408T registered between year 2011 to 31st Dec 2015.
Mine is 2016 408TLE version which does no entitle for this extension.
Luckily my lion is still under pristine condition after 1.5 years.
I yet to plan to activate the recall program for my car since most of the parts are still fine working condition.
*
Noted with thanks. I will probably hunt for 2012 or 2013 car so should be safe.

Yeah indeed why fix it when it is working fine.

You must know there is two versions of the Peugeot 308t. One is with 4-speed (09 & 10), 6-speed is post-2010. I think 4-speed one is problematic. The 6-speed AFAIK has no issues. I have never read on this forum or on the 408 fb group of anyone having GB issues. Having said that, i don't like the gearbox design but that's a different story tongue.gif

You sure did your homework on continental car. Thumbs up.

Thanks you very much for clearing my doubt. Really appreciate that.

If anyone is going to sell their Peugeot 408 2.0 to used car dealer please drop me a PM as I'm still looking for a unit.

BTW, can I know how much does it cost to recover 408 car key if owner lost all his keys? Would really appreciate if anyone experienced it could share some lights.

i get my car key replacement last time is about rm700 ..
if not mistaken is below rm700.

SC will disable the invalid key to access to your car.
*
Thanks for the information. Can I know when you get a replacement key does it mean you lost all your keys and code, and that only cost rm700? Thought I read somewhere they will need to reflush the ECU and that cost thousands.

SC will reprogram the new key to your ECU and remove the one not using.
Example, you have key A and B. But B is missing. So they give u Key C and remove Key B from your ECU.
Oh ya, FYI it took some time to order the key ya. Mine wait around 1 week.

Yes it is cost RM700 (plus minus, confirm not reach to thousand) .. i do mine at year 2017 July.

There are alot of so call "owner" but actually they are not and might just like to talk kok online..
Is better refer to club member or SC ..

more information :
SC i do this last time : Geot Auto PJ (you can google it in case u not sure where is it)

Price wise i cannot commend so much, mana tau they tell u barang naik harga  vmad.gif
*
Thank you very much for the detailed information. Really appreciate that. Guess I will call Geot Auto PJ directly. I might probably need their service and confirmation later.

1 week waiting time for the key, guess they don't keep the stock locally. My only concern is actually the immobilizer. The ignition + door lockset + 2 remote control cost less than rm400 only.

Hi is me again. I call up PJ Geotauto the spare part department told me is rm700 but they couldn't confirm how soon will the key ready. I call up Peugeot KD service advisor told me rm1000+ but need to wait 2 to 3 months for the key.

Can I know when you get the replacement key do you need to provide the backup key or they could duplicate/remake the key without any backup key?

hi, i explain in point form for easier understanding ya ..

1. all your car information is inside Peugeot database (including your engine code, car key pattern, etc)
2. once u submit your order (deposit or full payment), they will proceed to order a new key. FYI, all the key are with unique keycode.
3. then they will cut your key exactly like your existing key pattern (the pattern they retrieve from Peugeot database)
4. once the key arrive, they will install the key into your car. At the same time, they will remove the key which not using (update new key's keycode and remove keycode not using)
5. then you can use your new key to unlock and start engine.

more information :
How if people use the old key to enter your car ?
A : the old key still can unlock your car door but cannot start the engine

actually all this information your can ask when u call to SC.
*
Wow thanks you very much for all the details.

2. FYI, all the key are with unique key code. Does that mean all the key has to come with transponder right? Reason being the KD service advisor told me I could bring my own empty key but I'm not sure if I should buy transponder together.

Edit ohmy.gifh I just realized the transponder is soldered on the remote control PCB.

I couldn't get service advisor at PJ Geotauto as no one picking up the call when transferring call. The KD service advisor sounds like rushing so I did not spend much time talking on the phone. Might as well pay a visit to the service center but not sure how would they treat walk in.

Hi. I could use some help to clarify few information about Peugeot 408 car key.

1. Can I know what is the number written at the side of your car key. Is it CE 0536 or CE 0523. Please refer to first picture.
2. Can I know if there is groove line over the car key blade?

Thank you very much for the fast reply. The information help me alot to check if I should order the key, C91 key code cracking, and PP2000 OBD2 reader.

I went to Peugeot KD just now to check if they could give me the key pattern and key code but service advisor wouldn't know. They told me they will pass the case to Peugeot Glenmarie even If I'm ordering the key from Peugeot KD. Guess I will go to Peugeot Glenmarie to try my luck then PJ Geotauto if not avail.

Thanks again.

2012 is first batch, now market should be around Rm20k if get from dealer
*
Frankly speaking the price from used car dealer is not really like what you have seen in advertisement. A 2012 unit could easily cost about rm30K after their so called processing fee. I can hardly find any used car dealer/sales agent who don't "imposed" extra Rm2000 to 5000 so called processing fees unless the price they advertised is above "average".

Another thing is the year made. Normally they would advertise the car as 1 or 2 years newer according to car condition and price offered. Of course there are still some unit with real year made. I have seen a 408 advertised by a few company at different year made. When asked why the year made is not as advertised many will say ads was handled and updated by third party. Honost one would say they just want to attract people.

Edit:take note that processing fees might or might not include name change, inspection, and so forth which cost couple of hundreds. Road tax and insurance will never be included as processing fee.

I bought my used 408t in Aug 2017. The list price was 31k. Processing fee, insurance, road tax, etc was 4k. So total price OTR is 35k. Still cheap but in hindsight, I should have asked in this forum or the facebook group if anyone want to sell their car. Would have been a bit cheaper to buy direct from owner. Maybe can save 5k....
*
Yeah indeed normally private sellers are selling same or slightly lower price compared with used car dealer. Pros is without processing fee.

I bought a 2016 1.6 thp. Now pending for puspapkom inspection before proceed with full payment. I remember I read that 2016 car will not be able to enjoy the extended 2 years warranty right?

If not wrong, only eligible for registration year 2011 to 2015.

Alright thanks. Just to double check before I get the confirmation from Peugeot official. Guess I will just send the car to Peugeot service center for the first 3 years then. Heard the claim on their 4th and 5th year warranty is a pain. I already used to DIY anything within my reach for example brakes job, service item replacement, hoses, and etc. I'm kinda new to this engine so might need to explore a little bit more, for example I can't find transmission dipstick, I could only find a torx bolt which is very likely for refill.

BTW, can anyone tell me if there is car paint color code at the pillar or at engine bay? I have yet to collect my car so can't check. Will need to order spray paint to cover some minor scratches ASAP.
Edit: nvm I am able to obtain the color code by calling Peugeot care line.

So how much did you buy the car? So jelly that you got a 2016 car! I looked at so many dealers, all were selling 2012 or 2013 only!
*
Yeah indeed most of them are 2012 for 408T and 2013 for 408 2.0. Anyway if you search hard enough you still can find some 2014 and 2016. Few of the 2014 I have checked does not necessary seems better condition than 2012 car though.

How they restore? Just polish?
Do they apply another protector coat on top after polish?

Saw quite many shop offer this restoration, be it polish or chemical coating.. my worry is how long can it last.
Dont want it to come back again after 6 months time
*
At that price it is probably just polish only without any coating. A proper opti coat does not comes cheap. I do found another cheaper solution though. I did wet sanding on the headlight of my another car with 2000 grit sand paper then finish with 2k clear coat. The car has been a year under the sun and the headlight does not seems turn yellowish just yet.
