Hi, my 408 (2.0) had finished it's 7 years warranty. I'm planning to send service (especially major 140k km mileage service with timing belt replacement) outside rather than Peugeot service centres (as I don't want to spend more than RM 3k for this).

So which workshop should I go? I've seen many wrote here went to Bros Auto or Renautech. Can you guys help to recommend?
*
both Bros Auto and Renautech are great ..

For me, is a waste of time going to SC.

normal service - can go anywhere but I recommend Renau Tech as you should build a good relationship with the shop thru such service

repair and part replacement - I believe Renau Tech are reliable, price reasonable (for me). so far problem solve in 1 visit

Air cond - Master cool, price slightly high but problem solve in 1 visit

Brake - never ever go to A--- M Express (pm me if wish to know more details of my bad experience with the irresponsible attitude.

Tyre (including balancing & alignment) - SG Auto

Knock and Spray - Kim Keong Motor, good workmanship with reasonable price

i agree the "brake" part .. im one of the victim also .. bruce.gif

Whoah. Isn't DIN 75 a bit much though? Don't wanna give the SC reason to reject future warranty claims (on the extended 2 years warranty now). So seems like Korean made Varta is good as well eh? Any experience on this Amaron? I see some going with 18months of warranty.
Not to knock on you man...but I read a lot of mixed reviews about the marathoner. Some say its superb (like yourself), some complain of it dying right after the warranty ends. So I'm of two minds about it.

-----

Also, to the both of you, what's your driving pattern like? Any dashcam/car charger plugged in?

Thank youuuu!
*
ya .. i agree with you. that why last time i give it a try ..
Before my last Century is hankook DIN75 Silver Calcium .. it only last time about 14 months ..

my car is with dashcam plug in .. activated only when car is started ..
my daily is morning go to work (no turn on car light) .. and home at night (with head light on) ..

long journey night driving very month once to back home town ..

sometime local trip travel too ..

btw if budget is allow .. go for varta .. so far is good review just abit pricy ..

That's the same unit that I saw on Aliexpress. Considering that now since the current HU unit sot sot dy laugh.gif

Mind to share where that picture was from? I see a something plugged in, could possibly be the adaptor that allows for carplay. Wanna ask actual owners that installed that.

Looked up videos on installation of the HU for the 308...Since it's essentially the same car. Doesn't look too hard to be honest. I think most people could pull it off!

Thanks!

----------------

Speaking of ECU remaps, what other mods can the 408T do?

Also, curious question. Vaguely remember this from college. If the exhaust/downpipe is modded to be without the catalytic converter...doesn't it effect the emissions of the car? Or is it only minor...or is it combined with something else. Also...would you need to apply for such a mod from JPJ?

Finally...I remember discussing this ages ago: Doesn't the cat converter provide some sort of back-pressure? Or is that why the ECU needs to be remapped to account for that. I'm guessing this mod only works for cars with ECUs that can be flashed.

Discussion for the sake of technical knowledge since I don't think I'd bother with doing any of those things laugh.gif
*
the HU is easy to remove if u have the tools ..
it is something look like "U" one .. (i believe u saw some youtube tutorial too) .. easily get from lazada / shopee / online store ..
without the tool .. u can cucuk skrew driver at the 4 hole and pull .. still work ..

for the adaptor allow car play .. first you HU must "carplay-able" ..
it is not something that u plug in and "walla" have the car play function ..

hope this may helps .. thumbup.gif

If car looks stock pretty sure you can fly under the radar brows.gif

Thanks for sharing btw!
It's 5+2 years (3+2+2 actually). After the final service (of the 5th year) they'll do a check on your car if you're qualified for the 2 years extended warranty. IIANM, you've gotta to do all servicing on time, at an ASC, complete the recall program (as mentioned above), and do pass their inspection (probably checking if any unauthorised installation etc etc).
*
as i check earlier, only need complete recall program (if your car is entitle for the extended warranty) ..
cause i do my service outside since 3rd year .. then i write in to check whether i entitle for the extended warranty program and yes ..
unauthorized installation is ok as long is not heavy one .. i think they just close 1 eye ..
my car already install reverse camera and small tft monitor (tapping cable, etc etc) after few months i get my car .. it is still ok with the warranty ..

hope this may helps ..

btw, another quick question, are there any risk with turobo engines?

(I've never owned any turbo engines before, but have heard a lot of hearsay and myths that turbo are problematic, Hence, would like to hear some comment about this turbo engine. smile.gif )
*
my experience of owning 6 years 408T .. My driving style is more to rev alot one .. (well .. my 408t asking me to do so brows.gif )
Engine and gearbox should be no issue one ..
below are common part need to change / will failed within 5 years :
Air cond :
- common nowadays car aircond compressor, condensor failed
- i replace my aircond compressor on warranty, condensor under callback but always no stock, so i replace outside

turbo intake hose :
- you can google the image, it will failed after some year cause the plastic is cracked due to hot engine bay / turbo .. but it is not expensive to replace ..
- u will heard your turbo "whiss" slightly louder one .. brows.gif still can drive but please replace it ASAP
- u can replace with the original one
- alternative fixes : change to cold air intake

turbo diverter valve :
- it will break / after few years due to hot turbo too .. (cause it make by plastic)
- error popup, your car will suddenly lost of power but still can drive slowly one ..
- u can replace with the original one
- alternative fixes : use GFB DV+

abs sensor :
- will failed, especially never replace since u took the new car .. after replace it, it will last long ..
- it still can drive slowly even the error pop up .. no worry
- u can just replace with the original one

turbo housing leak
- will failed after few years
- u can feel your turbo like not enough boost, boost lost at end power
- just replace with the original one, normally turbo return hose also is time to change also
- alternative : maybe other better turbo ??? (is time to upgrade brows.gif )

my 408t so far so good and still very nice to drive ..
most important is you have mech that can do your car nicely la ..

hope this may help icon_rolleyes.gif

hi, may i know how much you spend for the parts replacement? will it costly?
*
hmm ... most expensive is aircond..
for my case, i replace my aircond compressor under warranty and i can replace my condenser under callback too, but i need the car urgent so i replace my it outside .. cost about 1.5k <2k if not mistaken .. cant recall .. but then aircond was like common problem for nowadays car .. my friend civic turbo also replace aircond before ..
so, if your car is under warranty then should be ok .. it last long once replaced, so no worry..

turbo intake hose : rm250 +- like that

turbo diverter valve : rm300 +- like that

abs sensor : rm200 +- like that

turbo housing : i replace the turbo return hose this that too .. so about rm1500 +- like that ..

P/S : price i stated is based on my agak agak memory jer .. many year already cannot remember correctly .. sweat.gif not worry, once replace it will work fine for many years one .. i suspect those part is not good when assembly at kilang .. hahaha ..

if u ask whether is costly .. hmm .. is cheaper than bmw expensive than toyota ?
if u ask me worth to maintain it .. yes .. the joy of driving it > all laugh.gif
my maintenance so far just oil change and wear and tear items changes la .. not like what u read online say always failed and park at garage la .. no worry .. (at least my 408t is work well la thumbup.gif )

edit : nowadays u can easily source the part online (shopee, lazada, taobao, ebay etc etc) .. so is cheaper but u need DIY (i did buy part online and DIY too .. if is not too troublesome to replace ) whistling.gif

Normal oil consumption on Pugs is 1Liter/5kkm.

Therfore since service intervals are 10Kkm,it's possible oil level will be low point since consumption at this time is 2liters!

At this low level it is possible to trigger oil warning msg upon fast corners! I suggets checking dip stick levels, at least at 5Kkm! Top up, but if more than 1 liter then workshop inspection is necessary.

I am a great believer of preventive maintenance. Consider decarbo at 100kkm! IMO walnut blasting is the most suitable & produces best results!

FYI Renautech now having promo.. Decarbo RM499

I think it's possible to get Cat converter on Taobao. Its just that the search is not user friendly.  If can read chinese will be easier.

*
i think the delivery fee quite expensive .. as per the cat converter with box are quite big ..
