It cheaper plus unlike US which have a law to minimize surrounding damage and casulties. Russian does not apply the same rule

That why the saying for russian operation style

Terroist 10k

Civilian 5k

Total body count 15k

Mission sucessful
*
Yeah sure US minimize casualties. The number of civilian/combatant casualty ratio says other wise. Oh wait, civlian? No no, that's just a dog we bombed, and that one is not a boy. I see a gun shape. That's how US operate.

Army begins work to replace handgun

user posted image

QUOTE
The Army wants an easier-to-shoot handgun that can inflict more damage on enemies, and the contract will be worth up to $580 million. The winning gunmaker also gets a tacit stamp of approval that could attract sales from other military forces and boost its popularity in the civilian firearms market.

The Army’s main handgun – the M9 – is a 9 mm semiautomatic intended as a last-ditch, defensive weapon. It was first issued in 1985, and critics say it’s too bulky for small-handed shooters. Troops who fought in Iraq and Afghanistan complain it’s not as hard-hitting as they would like. And it can’t easily accommodate the accessories now common in the civilian firearms market, such as swappable gun-sights or gun-mounted lights.

“It’s a little one size-fits-most, and not everybody is one size,” said Rodney Briggs, a firearms instructor and former military policeman in the Army National Guard. He carried the M9 during two tours of duty in Iraq. “It’s been around for a really, really long time, and it’s just old and outdated.”

Sorry I'm gonna ask for proof. Because the amount of SOPs and public criticism the US army incurs re: reducing collateral damage doesn't seem to indicate such an attitude. Mistakes happen and they've certainly killed their share of civvies. But they practically invented the whole idea of precision guided munitions and less-lethal ordnance whereas Russia is most well known for their artillery barrages and flamethrower weapons.

Primarily, the trip was for the Prime Minister to visit the 100 or so New Zealanders serving in a training mission in Taji Camp, north west of Baghdad, to show his personal support.

We could not take in any device that was 3G capable for fear of a New Zealand-registered device being tracked in Iraq.

Nor could we name or identify any of the New Zealand soldiers working in Iraq.

While we accepted the reasoning given - the soldiers and, potentially, their families back in New Zealand needed to be protected from any retaliatory attack - we did question why the Australians have no such policy, with reporters able to name and photograph their personnel.

Japan displays naval power as US extends home fleet’s operation to entire Pacific

user posted image

QUOTE
The highlight of the show was Japan’s new 250 meter long helicopter carrier, the Izumo, the biggest warship Japan has built since World War II. Japan designates it a ‘helicopter destroyer’ rather than carrier to comply with the country’s pacifist constitution that renounces war and the threat of force as means to settle international disputes. Technically the country has no military and for numerous years, has not been building aircraft carriers, which are needed to wage war far from home soil.

Hybrid Warfare: Iraqi Forces Add Russian Machine Gun to US Abrams Tank

The US-Russian tank hybrid has unnerved the Pentagon. According to the officials the hybrid could result in violations of Iraq’s FMS agreements with Washington, due to unauthorized use by Shiite militias and the unsanctioned addition of the Russian gun and Iranian ammo.

Regional Discord Fuels Islamic State’s Rise in Mideast

user posted image

QUOTE
The gap between American objectives and means has bolstered Islamic State’s narrative of invincibility, allowing it to draw thousands of recruits.

“We have an interest in defeating ISIS, but we don’t want to do that ourselves: We want other people to go in and lose their lives in doing it,” said Andrew Tabler, a Syria expert at the Washington Institute for Near East Policy.

In both Syria and Iraq, the U.S. targets Islamic State leaders and facilities, and seeks to roll back the group’s territorial gains by providing air support to local allied ground forces.

Syrian Air Tank Shrugs Off Direct Hit

QUOTE
A Syrian Mi-8 takes a direct hit over Syria. It flies off like there is no problems.

The resilience of Soviet aircraft is world renowned. This footage out of Syria proves that their aircraft are nearly invincible. Had this been any American born helicopter it would have been absolutely shredded by the strike.

The Mi-8 is one of the world’s most vastly produced and used rotatory wing platforms in the world today. This video is evidence as to why.

Originally designed to carry politicians from point A to point B, this aircraft was largely ignored by the Russian military. It wasn’t until the UH-1 saw huge success in Vietnam that Russia decided it needed to adopt a rotary wing platform of their own.

PALFINGER NED-DECK WON AN ORDER FOR 12 NEWLY DESIGNED DAVITS FOR THE ROYAL MALAYSIAN NAVY

14/10/2015

user posted image

PALFINGER NED-DECK is proud to announce the receipt of a prestigious order from Boustead Naval Shipyard for the Royal Malaysian Navy. The order is to deliver 12 aluminum davits within the next ten years with a total order value of few million dollar for six Littoral Combat Ships (LCS) which will be built in Lumut, Malaysia.

Royal Malaysian Navy

The Second Generation Patrol Vessel (SGPV), also called Littoral combat ships is a class of six stealth frigates being build for the Royal Malaysian Navy. The ships are based on an enlarged version of the Gowind-class corvette, designed by DCNS of France. The contract has been finalized and it has been decided that all six ships will be built by local shipbuilder Boustead Naval Shipyard for the Royal Malaysian Navy at a ceiling price of RM9 billion (2.8 billion USD), starting from 2013.

Newly designed C-series type davit

The PRH 45 AP ALU TWIN is a davit system of the recently launched V-Series davits. The V-series davits are made of aluminum to fulfill the requirement for light weight installations. The system is executed as a “TWIN-setup” in which the two davits are connected to one hydraulic power unit to reduce installation space and weight of the complete setup. The whole system is SOLAS approved according European Union Council Directive 96/98/EC on marine equipment by Bureau Veritas.

The order includes an agreement for services. Meaning PALFINGER NED-DECK will provide training, project management, integration and spare parts for the system.

“This order is very important for PALFINGER NED-DECK to set foot in the South East Asian Defense market. For us this is the first co-operation with Boustead and also a record order in Malaysia. Boustead is the biggest shipbuilder in Malaysia. The main reasons for choosing our davit system were innovative design, competitive pricing, the PALFINGER service network and our support during the tender phase“, says Hans Cramer, Managing Director PALFINGER NED-DECK. “The delivery of  these 12 davits is a first step to set up a good cooperation and to further strengthen the relationship for future projects”.

What Made This Man Betray His Country?
How a troubled past turned a Soviet military engineer into one of the CIA’s most valuable spies.

His anger drove him to become the most successful and valued agent the CIA had run inside the Soviet Union in two decades. The documents and drawings he passed to the United States in the early 1980s unlocked the secrets of Soviet radar and revealed sensitive plans for research on weapons systems a decade into the future. His espionage put the United States in position to dominate the skies in aerial combat and confirmed the vulnerability of Soviet air defenses—that American cruise missiles and bombers could fly under the radar.

DARPA: The double-edged sword at the centre of the US military-industrial complex

user posted image

QUOTE
DARPA's budget—at least the declassified part—is roughly US$3 billion annually. The agency has received a similar amount, adjusted for inflation, from the US government since it was created as ARPA in 1958. Its 120 program managers have an unusual degree of authority, initiating and overseeing hundreds of research projects across America and overseas, with the power to start, continue or stop research with little outside intervention.

'Is DARPA to be admired or feared? Does DARPA safeguard democracy, or does it stimulate America's seemingly endless call to war?' Jacobsen asks in her latest book, The Pentagon’s Brain: An Uncensored History of DARPA, America's Top-Secret Military Research Agency.

QUOTE
'DARPA's movement is towards coupling man and machine, so putting neuro-prosthetics in the brains of soldiers so that they can have what is called augmented cognition. They can become super-soldiers ... Ultimately [the Pentagon is moving] toward robots taking over the job: self-governing drones, drones that are often called hunter-killer drones.'

But, she says, this has encountered resistance at the Pentagon, from both senior officers and drone operators who are speaking out.

QUOTE
And yet, with Russia and China investing research similar to that done by DARPA, cyborg warfare could be part of the future, whether the US gets to it first or not.

'When you consider that double-edged sword, you really have to think—and this is what many of the scientists I interviewed said to me—how would you feel if a Russia or a China or a dark horse like Saudi Arabia, is the first nation to break some of these technological barriers like artificial intelligence or human cloning? Will you say DARPA has failed?'
