Army Forces Gear Up for Military Drill West of Iran

user posted image

TEHRAN (Tasnim) – The Iranian Army’s Ground Force, Air Force and Air Defense have deployed troops and weapons to the country’s western areas in preparation for holding a massive military exercise, codenamed Moharram.

The main phase of the 2-day maneuver is scheduled to kick off on Monday. The exercise covers large areas in west and northwest of Iran.

On Sunday morning, two RF-4 aircraft of the Islamic Republic of Iran Air Force (IRIAF) carried out reconnaissance sorties over the drill zone.

The IRIAF is going to employ a range of aircraft in the upcoming exercise, including F-4, F-5 and homegrown Saeqeh fighter jets, reconnaissance and interceptor planes, as well as Boeing 747 and C130 transport aircraft.

The Air Defense is to monitor the whole airspace over the maneuver zone. Iranian missile defense system ‘Mersad’, paired with ‘Shalamcheh’ ground-to-air missiles, will target the hypothetical enemy’s Unmanned Aerial Vehicles (UAVs) during the war game.

The locally-manufactured ‘Fakour (Thoughtful)’ command and control system will be also employed as part of the Air Defense gear.

The Ground Force, meanwhile, plans to send its rapid reaction units to the target zone from a distance of 400 kilometers with airborne and ground tactics.

Other equipment to be utilized in the war game include gunships armed with machine guns and rockets, upgraded Iranian ‘Samsam’ tanks equipped with stabilizer and night-vision systems, as well as Zolfaqar tanks.

A grenade-launcher weapon with a range of 1,800 meters will also come into service in the drill.

Iran has in recent years made great headways in manufacturing a broad range of military equipment, including the air defense systems that use cutting edge technologies.

Tehran has repeatedly stated that its military might is defensive in nature and poses no threat to other countries.

J-20 would defeat F-15J in long-range air combat

user posted image

After claiming that the Japanese F-2 multirole fighter is going to defeat its Chinese counterpart, J-10 in a future air combat over the disputed Diaoyutai (Senkaku) islands, Kyle Mizokami, an American military expert said that the People's Liberation Army's J-20 fifth-generation fighter will be able to shoot down Japan's American-built F-15J fighter in an article he wrote for the National Interest magazine on Oct. 16.

Although the F-15J is an excellent fighter, Japan's ministry of defense had expected to replace the older, cold war era aircraft with the F-22 fifth-generation fighter, Mizokami said. Japan, however, was later prohibited from purchasing the upgrade — the F-22 Raptor — from the US after Congress approved the Obey Amendment in 1997.

Japan's Mitsubishi Heavy Industries was license to manufacture a total number of 223 F-15J since 1981. An upgrade program was carried out by Japan Air Defense Force in early 21st century to fit advanced infra-red guided missiles such as AAM-3, AAM-5, improved AN/APG-63 mechanically-scanned pulse-doppler radars, the AAM-4B radar-guided missiles, improved electronic countermeasures and a nose-mounted infrared search and track sensor to the F-15J fighter.

The precise role of Chengdu Aerospace Corporation's J-20 fighter still remains unknown, Mizokami said. Due to its large size, the J-20 can be developed to mimic Russia's MiG-31 interceptor, with missions to shoot down enemy aerial refueling tankers, early warning and control aircraft, as well as perform reconnaissance and intelligence collection. It can also be designed as a medium long-range bomber like the American-built F-111.

In air combat, if China's J-20 is developed particularly to fight the F-15J as a long-range air superiority fighter, it would be extremely difficult for the F-15J fighter to detect the Chinese fifth-generation fighter at a longer range. If the designers of J-20 are able to reduce the aircraft's radar cross section, the F-15J fighter's advantage in launching an attack from beyond visual range against the J-20 will be reduced gradually.

If the J-20 was additionally fitted with the PL-15 active radar seeker missile, the chances of the F-15J's would be practically non-existent. Without a gun, the J-20 may still lose in a close-range battle against the F-15J, which has superior thrust and excellent maneuverability, Mizokami said. Still, the F-15J must be able to get closer to the Chinese fifth-generation fighter before engaging in any dog fight.

China's "Warrior" SUV deloyed against ISIS

user posted image
The Warrior military SUV designed by the state-owned BAIC Group. (Internet photo)

China's "Warrior" military SUV is allegedly being deployed by Syrian government forces in strikes against the Islamic State jihadist group, reports Duowei News, a US-based Chinese political news outlet.

Though China has thus far refused to send troops to Syria and join either the US-led coalition or Russia in the ongoing battle against ISIS, it is said to be assisting in other ways. According to Duowei, a soldier from the Syrian navy claims that Warrior — or "Yongshi" — military SUVs made by China's state-owned BAIC Group are actively involved in the fighting in the Middle East. However, it is believed that most of the labels indicating that the vehicle comes from China have all been removed.

The Warrior is a mid-sized SUV, which is said to be more suitable for desert warfare as larger military vehicles tend to be susceptible to anti-tank missiles and rockets due to their lack of mobility.

The biggest advantage of the Warrior over its competitors is its 199,000-yuan (US$31,335) price tag. The SUV is also versatile because of its removable PVC hardtop that can be fitted with howitzers and a roll cage design that can be fitted with light machine guns. Additionally, there is enough space in the back to store two reserve petrol tanks.

However, the Warrior is not China's top military SUV, Duowei said, adding that the honor belongs to Dongfeng's EQ2050, known as "Mengshi" in China. The biggest problem with the Warrior, which has five doors and five seats, is said to be its high malfunction rate.

This is not the first time Chinese-made military equipment has reportedly been used in the war against ISIS. On Oct. 10, Iraqi defense minister Khaled al-Obaidi arrived at Kut Airbase to see the launching of the Chinese CH-4B combat drone, which will likely be deployed shortly.

Russia to Supply Equipment, Helicopters for Egyptian Mistral Ships

user posted image

NOVO-OGARYOVO (Sputnik) — Cairo and Paris signed a contract earlier this month for the purchase of two French-made Mistral-class helicopter carriers originally built for Russia.

"Russia will be, if you want, a sub-contractor, who will supply the missing equipment without which the Mistral warships are just a tin can. And of course, all the helicopters,” Sergei Ivanov said.

He added that the price of potential contracts would amount to over $1 billion.

Egypt emerged as France’s replacement customer for the Mistrals in September 2015, after Paris and Moscow formally terminated a 2011 deal on the construction and delivery of the two ships. In November 2014, France suspended the contract, claiming Moscow's alleged participation in the Ukrainian conflict.

Russia and France are expected to sign the final documents on the removal of radio-electronic systems from the Mistral-class helicopter carriers in early November.

Indonesian Coast Guard inducts three indigenous patrol vessels

Ridzwan Rahmat, Singapore - IHS Jane's Navy International
18 October 2015

The Indonesian Coast Guard (Kesatuan Penjaga Laut dan Pantai, or KPLP) has commissioned three new patrol vessels.

The vessels - named KN Rantos (P 210), KN Grantin (P 211), and KN Pasatimpo (P 212) - were commissioned on 17 October at Batu Ampar, Batam in a ceremony presided over by the country's transport minister Ignasius Jonan.

"The vessels will be used to safeguard both the seas and the beaches of territories under the Republic of Indonesia," said the Indonesian Ministry of Transportation in a statement released for the commissioning.

The vessels were built by Batam-based shipyard PT Karimun Anugrah Sejati.

basically this.
Malaysian Gov themselves are not training homegrown terrorist, but religious extremist training themselves to go on Jihadi vacations.
IMO, the recent re-fundamentalism of Malaysia and the rest of the world after the Iranian revolution have contributed greatly to possibilities of these.
Even if our contribution to the clusterfuuckk is insignificant compared to Al-Saud, we can't deny that there are elements in MY and Indonesia doing it.

hamas parachute training in MY though it's more likely they're here as tourist than as commando to begin with. whistling.gif

If we knew we would be smarter than CIA wouldn't we? Malaysia has long been known to the West as a terrorist hidey hole. You want to change that perception, maybe tell people to stop blaming Amerika Syaitan for everything, stop supporting Hezbollah, and speak out more against extremism.
