QUOTE(hokc77 @ Sep 27 2015, 02:51 PM) If it can't detect from the get go, then i can understand the logic bout the different length or depth of the physical port or cable head. But in my case, it detects fine, explorer pop out fine, but once files transfer start, it go from 30 over mbs to zero in seconds, then stopped responding. after a bit, you can hear the system sound as it disconnect and re detect the HDD using that same HDD + cable on the right side port or on my desktop, no issue. Ya one of the user reported that issue on previous thread https://forum.lowyat.net/topic/3395857/+1740

We did check the computer last year and it's due to the external hdd compatibility because we have tried three different USB devices without issue. But this one was claimed that the HDD stop responding after a while of transferring.

No worries guys.. Illegear staff also contacted me to investigate. Kudos for the great follow up.. Currently on overseas assignment so will try using different combination of external HDD + cable once I come back.
So far the Z5 is working well. Whack through more than 20gb of RAW files and video rendering with ease

Hi All, After research here and there and with a budget in mind, I am confident that this Illegear Z5 model suits my criteria. Just that due to the budget, I may only go for 960M instead of the 970M. Kinda sad to hear that I can't upgrade the GPU after I go through this thread. But nonetheless, the main intention is wanting to play Plant vs Zombie Garden Warfare and also the Upcoming PvZ GW2 in Max setting with ease (wonder if it does since it can high Battlefield 4)

Mine is 970M tho.

4 days into using this laptop, very happy so far.
I only installed Chrome in addition to Edge, didnt install Firefox, but there's this plugincontainer.exe thingy (which is usually associated with firefox) magically managed to max out my cpu usage, a core i7 cpu, to 100% and made the whole machine sluggish. I got mad and instead of disabling it I totally deleted the exe file from my drive C's program data folder.
And I noticed the Chrome browser had a tendency to spam ads on all 4 sides and also at the corners (right left top bottom) of any webpage I opened - it never happened on my old laptop. Erasing plugincontainer.exe somehow reduced its occurrence but it still happens to some sites and I don't know why, even when I have adblock installed.
I like windows 10 and the Edge browser a lot so far in terms of performance, but almost every browser felt unpolished yet when used on windows 10. Chrome had only a 32 bit version.

Edge is a very good browser but still new Hope more users can share experience.

I never had such issue with chrome before, your case seem weird, are you sure not caused by malware/adware? Anyway, I don't use chrome on Z5, only use Edge and IE11 for different needs, so far works fine for me though.

But nonetheless, the main intention is wanting to play Plant vs Zombie Garden Warfare and also the Upcoming PvZ GW2 in Max setting with ease (wonder if it does since it can high Battlefield 4) I still think you should opt for the 970M, because after all the PS4 and the XBOX One are using AMD's APU, which is somewhat on par with GTX970M. Therefore, on practice and in theory, if you do it right, the 970M will last you the entire XBOXOne and PS4 lifespan. Besides, the 970M vs 960M difference isn't small too, so I think it will hurt buying the 970M (or even 980M if it exists) but it'll be worth the 'gaming lifespan'. Of course most PC settings are different from PS4 and XBoxOne settings, such as 1080p on the Z5 vs the below 1000p (not even 720p on the xbox), but there are some things that I think if you don't skimp out on that, it would be worth the investment.

Could have been a browser adware i think, which was installed together with other software i installed on my own (and nope, i wasnt even asked the permission to install this or that toolbox where i need to tick/untick some checkboxes. I always read every installation steps in detail). That adware doesnt really do anything other than spamming ads all over the place and using up more resources in the process; the ads contain legit stuff like Lazada and Aliexpress stuff.

Dude 970m is miles ahead of apu on xbone, ps4... Its just that the later two benefits from a direct api that fully utilizes the hardware .. N with just one spec.. Optimization is done by the game dev. This is what dx12 supposedly promises to offer..

On Nvidia site, it didn't mention that or will they going to come out with driver to make it support...
