Although the volume of the CVT whine in the video is quite soft, I noticed from 0:10 to 0:13 there is an audible "wooooo" sound from the CVT which I do not experience when the car is cruising at low speed. I am not sure if it is normal but I suppose it would be good if you can ask them to check on this CVT whine when you send your car in for your next service.

The loud "woo woo" sound in my car is different as it is during acceleration from standstill 0 to say 40km/h. The sound is very loud and it is "woo, woo, woo" in several repetitions, unlike your case where it is a single "woooooo" when the car is cruising at low speed albeit in low volume.

around 36k km only. last time i complain cvt sound they say is normal.. gawd damn. U mean the woo woo sound of your car when ur cvt is broken? I dont know the woo woo sound is normal or not for mine.. but it is annoying. Iriz CVT doesnt have such funny woo woo sound.. mine if cruising around 40km/h then the woo woo sound come in constantly even if i am pressing pedal. i think last time the woo woo sound come in only when i lift pedal at low speed. if cruising at 50km/h also got cvt whine.. feels like the whine is getting worst.

This CVT, usually there is 2 sound when you step on the accelerator and the car is accelerating.

1. CVT whine - which is a low frequency sound, either from the gearbox or the engine, I'm not sure.
2. Whistling sound - is a high-pitch sound, which I presume is from the CVT.

From the video, it is apparent that this is the low-frequency CVT whine. And this "wooo" whine although not extremely loud, is quite loud to me. They can say that the sound is normal, but I don't experience this sound in my car, and to me it is not normal. If your car is new, say mileage 0 to 20,000km, and you don't hear this CVT whine too much, and you now hear this louder CVT whine, then this just shows that the performance of the CVT has deteriorated in showing a louder CVT whine. Whether it is normal or not, that we won't know but if you feel the sound is loud and not acceptable to you, then by all means just tell them that the sound is loud and ask them to do something about it. If they still say it is normal that it won't affect the gearbox or the car itself, then I have nothing more to say.

FWIW similarly I have experienced the sound of the CVT getting louder throughout the months before I got to know that my gearbox has kaput. This loud "wooo" CVT whine in your car as shown in the Youtube video is quite similar in pattern in the pitch/frequency to the intermittent "woo woo woo" whine in my car. Except that in my case it only happens occasionally, and only during acceleration from standstill ie. from 0 km/h.

Just ask them to check again for the 2nd time when you send the car in for service. Maybe the whine is normal after all. It's just that the louder sound is uncomfortable. This just goes on to show the quality or unrefinement of the CVT, if it is proven that your car (or the CVT whine) is normal even though the sound/whine has deteriorated and got louder.

For owners of the Preve who did not have any problems with the car, I wonder if they have experienced a louder CVT whine from the car? Or the CVT remains the same from day 1 in not showing increased levels of sound/whine throughout the months or years.

Mine is pretty normal. All cars will deteriorate over time.

As an update, I just received a call from the service advisor this morning that the report on the gearbox of my car is approved, finally. Yes, just approved since Thursday last week when I sent my car in. The part has not been delivered to the service centre yet.

Looks like it will definitely take more than 1 week for them to fix the car. Realistically 2+ weeks, hopefully not more than 3 weeks or up to 1 month.

Deterioration will happen with any cars, but usually it is only in the wear and tear items. Not something like gearbox or engine. For the engine, you need to do overhaul when the car has clocked considerable mileage. With the gearbox, it won't just deteriorate like that. When we refer to deterioration of the gearbox, it is in the increased noise levels in the whine whereby the whine of the CVT gets louder to the point it is audible. To me, this is not normal. My previous cars with automatic transmissions do not show increased levels of noise from the transmission even until I have sold it off after more than 5 years.

However, it is good to hear that you do not experience any change in the CVT of your car, which is a good thing.

The woo sound starting from 0:10 to 0:13, no. My car does not have this sound in normal daily drive. That is the reason I felt the sound is not normal.

Do you have this sound with your car earlier, say below 20,000km mileage?

yeah it was there, but last time only happen when decelerate of let say i lift of gas pedal at 40km/h, the car will still move around 40km/h then can hear the woo woo sound. Now even if i press and hold pedal at 40km/h, the car still got woo woo sound. And it happens that now it feels like louder.

Btw, does adding amp, change HU, change battery terminal void my gearbox warranty?

Okay, so the sound was there earlier. Not too sure what has exactly contributed or caused this "woo woo" sound, if it happens that the sound is said to be normal. In my case, the sound only comes up when I accelerate the car from standstill, the only difference is the sound is much louder, very loud. I step on the pedal, there is a loud woo sound, lift the foot off the pedal, the woo sound disappears, step on the pedal again and the woo sound comes up again. The woo sound will come up only when i step on the pedal. IT will last for about 5 seconds, then the sound will disappear completely. Back to normal.

No idea whether the change in amplifier, HU and battery terminal will void the gearbox warranty. Even though all these components are associated more to the electronics of the car and may not tap into the gearbox mechanism, there can be a risk that they may not honour the warranty, as they may claim that the change in the electronics may affect the gearbox. IT all depends on Proton's policy in honouring warranty.

If say you just change the tyre rims or the brake pads or shock absorbers to other brands which in no way will affect the gearbox, then the warranty of the gearbox should be intact. It all depends on the policy of Proton though.

I have case whereby an employee in my company has had problems with the gearbox stick in his Proton Saga whereby the button cannot be pressed properly. In other words, the gearbox stick is faulty. Since he doesn't have time to go to the service centre to have it fixed, he opted the easy way out by using a pen to poke the button, something like that, to make it work. When at the service centre to claim warranty on the gearbox stick, Proton rejected the warranty claim as they claimed it was damaged by the owner. In actual fact, the gearbox stick was originally damaged and the owner has carried out a temporary quick fix, which proved to be a silly move.

Bottomline, for warranty claims, it is the best bet to have everything in original, especially the major items.

It would be good if the woo woo sound is from the cooler fan. Ben3003 then doesn't need to worry about the possibility of claiming for a new gearbox under warranty.

This is just based on my observation, my Preve is 4 months now and this woo woo sound is the first I noticed whenever i turn on the engine, I opened the bonnett and noticed that when the cooler fan starts to run, this is where the woo woo sound start...im not sure if the woo woo sound is like woo-woo-woo where the "woo" is happening in fast sequence..my observation is wooooooooooo-wooooooooooo..the "woo" is very long....hope you get what I mean smile.gif

once I have the time, I will try to capture in video

Reading this thread is very entertaining with all the sounds laugh.gif

I'm lucky my CFE doesn't give much trouble, only minor ones like creaky seats and rattling sounds.

i know how cooler radiator fan sounds like, then i will try to contact my SC then. Last time they actually helped me to claim the engine mounting eventho with all the mod that they said it has actually void the warranty bla bla thingy, ask me dont shoot email to proton, find them first they will settle for me. I actually plan to shoot email but now better let SC know about it first. If SC sounds like they dont give a damn, then only i email proton. The SC scare becos my car alot of complain, and sounds like the SC cannot solve it, then they will send proton action team over. Last time they got send once before to check on the helicopter brake thingy which is 1-2months after i bought the car.

Thanks for all the feedback ya. It feels like i dont see any of you guys punya CVT whine as loud as i do. Btw if it is possible do share your cvt sound so i can actually know how does a normal cvt sounds like. Cos as i said, i drove iriz and i din not hear any whine.

Hello there all preve sifus. My preve turbo recently make a loud squeaking noise whenever I brake at low speed. Anyone encounter the same thing? My car mileage is only at 12k. Shouldn't be worn out brake pads right? Thanks
