I just happened to log in n saw these comments..so I thought I share my experience with my 2012 first batch preve...few months after buying my engine cylinder head cracked while driving n towed to proton and they replaced the engine...took about 1 month plus replacement car given...

everything went fine and after tht the car would jerk when I drive slow and feel like the gear slipping..went twice and they retune or reflash the ecu and it was ok but after sometime it felt the same.. learned to live with it..

then one day the aircon was not cold went and checked everything connected to aircon was fine but air not cold..it spent 3 weeks in workshop trying to pin point the source and apparently some wiring problem..

my driver seat is worn out in 3 years and emit some sort of "creaking" sound everytime I sat on it or moved while sitting..morning when I start and drive there are lot of vibration in the dashboard....

the engine sounds so rough inspite always using full synthetic oil..the absorbers has already worn out and due for replacement...as for the vibrations I am sure the engine mountings has to be replaced..

the engine will die off while I reverse on uphill..sometimes as I slow down for touch n go and when I press accelerator there will be a violent jerks which I feel on my floorboard before the car actually moves on....

the cvt fail indicator and airbag indicators will sometimes light up and I need to go proton to reset..twice already..

the gearbox feels much better after my major service in 60,000km and they charged me RM1500 for the service and I noticed they changed lot of gearbox parts....

honestly I feel frustrated and disappointed with this preve as so much of my time wasted in proton workshops..i really don't take this car outstation as always one after another problem crops up..

did they actually charge u for all the gearbox part?

It appears that your classmate's car has major damage in the engine, not the transmission. Are there many cases of the Turbo engine getting into this state? Is this an isolated case, or there are other cases of this engine malfunction?

Yikes, I am getting less confident on the car after seeing all these videos on Youtube. There are several more videos from different Preve Turbo owners, probably a lot more who don't post videos (like me).
*
No, the damage was purely transmission. Proton replaced it and the car was fine all the way until he sold it off.

Thanks for the information. So it is the problematic gearbox of the CVT that causes the loud sound. I thought the sound is coming from the engine.

Was planning to drive the car for another 2 years before I sell it for something else but it might be sooner than I thought after all these recent hiccups. I was told that the gearbox replacement may not be completed in 2 weeks time and may drag up to 1 month. Can't afford be a slave to the car although fortunately I have another backup car in the Ford Focus, which the clutch fix is also due very soon.

proton shud come out with a recall to have a check on all the gearbox of CFE version since alot of ppl actually complained about it. Probably we all should shoot an email to wecare and see what's the outcome.

i think proton is really trying their best to give best service, so far i am getting quite decent after-sales service, just i dont like the fact i need to use their engine oil provided at SC for the warranty purpose. My SC only provide shell helix ultra for full syn, around rm220+ include labor where i can get petronas syn3000 around 200? which is more suitable for turbocharged car.

btw if my car still going to the left side of the road, even after do tire alignment everything, what should i tell the SC? becos last time i tell the SC they say do alignment for me oledi but still eat to left, they tell me the road is slight tileted to the left, but the problem is if i try to drive the the opposing lane when there is no car coming in front, the car still going to the left, slightly. So i need to tell them wat to check, sometimes they are not so brilliant.
*
Just for sharing. Very common for those foreman to say the road issue. I personally dont believe them much.

I did my alignment during my second service last week. Before alignment got slight feel eat to the left but not serious. After alignment, become totally bad. The steering will go to the left immediately. After send back for another round of alignment only the matter is resolved. Still got feel eat to left, but less noticeable.

By the way, is it usual for the SC to subcon the alignment work? cause SC Plentong here does it.

not all but they charged rm 200 for the a/t valve body ...i dont knw wht part is it ...they did change some other things on the g/b but i am not sure wht it was as i was not charged for it..but in my opinion the major service is quite pricey ..they changed plugs, coolant, fuel filter, oil pan gasket, brake fluid, air filter...

the problem is they dont do proper recall like when i went sc when my oil cooler hose gave way and the engine oil started leaking...they took the opportunity to change the wire harness for the fan motor as they said many preve fan motor fail caused by wire harness somthing...i had to leave the car there for a whole day...

I am not referring to the normal CVT sound during acceleration which is already loud in nature. That is the inherent characteristic of the Preve's CVT, the low-frequency whining sound from the transmission when the car is accelerating. The sound is normal for a car that does not have any problem.

The loud and weird noise is a separate sound, an extraneous (additional) sound from the transmission which sounded REALLY LOUD and audible. It sounds like "Wooo wooo wooo" when you step on the pedal. The sound will last for about 4-5 seconds, then it will eventually disappear by itself, back to normal.

I tried to find a video on Youtube that may show the sound but cannot find any. Instead, I found a more serious video which shows a more serious problem :-

*
i realize my CFE has "duk duk duk duk duk' sound when step on pedal, especially going up hill or from standstill.
Its the same symptom?

I dont understand y they even chose Punch and not Jatco, so much for saving and end up need to replace alot of gearbox for free.

Newer Proton which is going to be released next year is using Jatco.

Just got my mine last week, the Premium CVT model. I've a few things I noticed. By the way, not an auto-genius here so sorry if I'm using terms that are not very specific!

1. It takes some time for the car to accelerate when stopped, either uphill or flat. But I think I got the answer after reading here about the clutch needing some time to close.

2. My car drops down slightly when stopped on a slope (which I never experienced in my Saga FL, but I think it's answered here as well so ignore this.

3. My car seems to throttle when I'm going down a steep downhill slope?? I'm not stepping the throttle and lightly stepping on the brake. I experience this everyday on a certain slope that I've to pass when leaving for work, not on other slopes.

4. My window is kind of dark. I'm not sure if it's even legal but that's what I got from Proton. I know Premium variant comes with a tint based on what I see on the brochure, but I don't see other cars as dark as mine, and I can't find other Premium variants on the road to compare, only Executive variants. Can anyone with this variant snap their window so I can compare? It's really worrying that I always checked Waze to avoid roadblocks. And yes I do have that cert from Proton but still...

5. There's a weird light tapping noise from somewhere in the back that just came up three days ago, and only when I'm driving so I can't make out where it's coming from as I need to focus on driving.

BTW, any recommendations for seat covers that I can get online? And will it affect the side airbags inside the seat itself? Sorry if it's all too newbie-ish~

Just my 2 cents.

3. I hope you mean by the car RPM went up when going down steep downhill slope. This is a feature comes with the car, called engine braking if not mistaken. This engine braking is done by shifting down gear, trying to slow down the vehicle when going downhill slope, for safety purpose.

5. It might be the noise of the back seat hook metal hitting. Bring down the two back seats and close it back tightly, and see if the noise will go away. Remember to pull out the seat belt before you close the back seats.

All #1, 2 and 3 are normal.

1 and 2: Purely related to clutch
3: Engine braking on Preve is noticeable as the Toyota's. I know some recent Proton cars like Persona doesn't have this engine braking too, although it is nothing new.
4: Exec variant has no tint if not mistaken
5. Mine had that sound. It is from the boot. Mine resolved by separating two pieces of metal from another panel. Can be resolved, as summary.

Yes that's exactly what I'm seeing, RPM going up! If it's normal then I'll just accept it. Btw I can't slow down much thanks to the ridiculous design of the road. It's literally /\. Had to go uphill hard, then going downhill can't slow down too hard as many of those 4WD's will stick to my rear. I'll try to check on these hook metal you suggested. Thanks!

Alright thanks for clearing 1,2 & 3! But 4, yes I know exec don't have the included tint. Mine is Premium so I can't compare as I can only find Execs around me. The closest I found was the tint on a Vellfire with a badge on the plate so I guess it's some high profile guy with special exceptions from JPJ. Made me even more concerned as I'm not some Datuk or VIP~|||

Salam & hello fellow Prevocs.

I recently bought April 2012 Preve CFE (1st batch i think) with only 22,000 km mileage (previous uncle owner)

as of now, the car is still running up to my own satisfaction, currently 27,100km mileage.

Last service done according to the service booklet was 17,549 km on 10 Dec 2014.

my question is, do i need to do major service since the car has passed 36 months, or do i just need to do regular 30,000 km service (according to service booklet)

TQ!

Not too sure about the "duk duk duk" sound but you can always bring your car to the service centre and have it checked. I don't think it is normal for the car to show this sound when accelerating from standstill.

I think I got "cheated", as my premium spec does not come with EcoTint film, just normal safety film.
So as a reminder for future buyer, ask your SA and secure the EcoTint film when purchasing premium spec.
