just got a polo 2014 sedan.... the gearbox refused to engage.... revs go up, can see on the gears change on the meter but no power to the wheels..... stopped the car by the side of the road, off the engine, restarted the car and the problem was gone..... drove to the workshop, found the only error code was the rear left abs sensor..... changed it and till today, no problem..... found it really strange that the abs sensor could affect how the gerabox worked

Polo selling at Malaysia still MK5 la...
1.6NA engine with 6AT gearbox, lesser problem yes, but slower acceleration.

The 6AT gearbox is Aisin 09G, a few model such as Mini Cooper and Audi US market using it. Some older unit experienced jerking gear shift which was due to solenoid valve issue, my friend's Mini Cooper experienced that then he replace used gearbox.

Common problem to certified genuine Polo 1.6NA MK5 are:
1. Original brake pad made by Apache India juddering, can be resolved by skim brake disc and use 3rd party brake pad such as TRW and Brembo.
2. Center handrest compartment opener broken.
3. Front ECU bracket broken, can be resolved by cable tie.
4. Gear shifter rubber bush broken, cannot shift gear lever. Most people panicked and call tow truck or ask foreman come onsite replace. Pro guy go engine bay use thumb to push the shifter to start car, reinsert back then try luck shift and quickly go workshop...
5. Aircond compressor I think solenoid or clutch something faulty. Many will tell you replace full compressor RM2k above. My friend claimed warranty but have to left car at VW PJ (sudah bungkus kedai) 1 month last time due to they telling it will costs RM7k. There are some shops can replace the faulty part within RM500 I think.
6. ABS speed sensors on 4 wheel will take turn gone faulty within 2 months, I guess lifespan is like that. Nowadays very cheap OEM less than RM90/pc with labor.

Yeah all those above problems are not trolling but every owners confirmed eventually will get unless bought new and resell within 3 years.

kena these 3. the center armrest latch is near impossible to find replacement. luckily for the aircond compressor issue, my car was still under warranty so syukur didn't have to pay a dime.

I wouldn't say as reliable as a Japanese engine and gearbox, but Mk7.x lesser problem.
Also the 2.0 engine using the wet clutch DSG is the more reliable one compared to the 1.4 with the dry clutch DSG.

Ok thanks for the info. For me lesser problem then is okay la. Dreamed of getting a golf, probably is a best opportunity to get a golf since it is so much cheaper at brunei.

Japanese car is rare at brunei, now is flooded with new kia and hyundai. Honda civic is non existence lol.

Most of the mileage get from the first 7 years, then MCO 2 years tat car don't event generate 5k mileages. I book Jan 2013 around 2013 June collect the car. Should be able to tahan a few more years, I mmg already expected things will starting to spoiled
until now I still feel this beetle is fun to drive...all the modern car now hv too many sensors n automation.
