Anyone bought the Golf GTI Mk8? How's the car? It seems prices was increased recently compared to launching. Any features added?
One youngster in my family member bought it, i’ve had a chance to drive it around for 3k+ km’s so here’s what i think:
1. Price increase from 210k~(when launch) to 230k otr(right now), NOTHING new is added, you still have to manually fold side mirror if need to close it, interior is still the exact same kosong spec and the ckd made in malaysia quality is very apparent. Compared to last time CBU, and completely different league from Golf R that’s only made in germany, wolfsburg.
2. Speaking purely, PURELY ON DRIVING DYNAMIC
ONLY, it’s really something else, the balanced, well planted chasis, the xds assist basically is a cheat code for driving fast in corners, zigzagging through traffic is not even a problem, fking insane bodyroll/body control. Alot of review says the car make you a better driver then you think you are - it’s absolutely true, literally just look at the direction you want to go, and steer that way, as long as no jerky steering/brake/accelerator input, no other non-peformance car can follow with ease. Note: c300 is not a peformance car, and so is any stupid SUV like x50, cx5, x4/5.
My daily driver is a recon macan (cheap mah, i poorfag), and like the usual SUV driver - before this i always think “wah these new gen SUVs drives farking good already lah, i have best car liao, i APR tuned stage1 my porsche macan win all already”.
Of course, it’s a rude awakening how shitty is a suv is for a “driver’s car”, until I actually sat and drove a golf gti for an extended period, scary to imagine how much better is a golf R, heck priced at 380k
Lastly, of course I don’t feel comfort, and nvh is even a priority la, it’s just not there at all, i think i can understand as it’s built for peforming well, not your usual commuter, those buy camry already will take you 90% there in nvh quality la.
