QUOTE(chocobo7779 @ May 17 2016, 09:11 PM) TPU reviews are out: They test the OC results on BF3, an ancient game by today's standards. What for? Readers of TPU has complained time and time and time again to use another game, but nooooo... BF3. http://www.techpowerup.com/reviews/NVIDIA/...TX_1080/12.html For some reason the overclocking seems kinda underwhelming to be honest... That said, BIOS modding for permanent OCing is going to be a pain in the ass looking at how Boost 3.0 works. This post has been edited by SSJBen: May 17 2016, 10:20 PM |

Well let's be realistic here.
The 1080 is aimed at 780 and 780Ti owners, those are the main target audience. To some extent, the 1080 is also targeting 970/980 owners too. 980Ti and Titan X owners, come on la guys.. you all know GP100 is inevitable. How many made the mistake of buying a 980 when they had a 780Ti just to find out the 980Ti isn't that far away? Admit it please. |

Hehehe, perf gain on 4k not that much. Around 10fps +/- over 980ti. Heheheeehehehe

Seen those reviews.
Stock (Founders Edition) 1080 is about 30% or so faster than stock 980 Ti. And that's exactly what will be put on the market first. Reference cards and that's nothing to shout abt and running at 80+ C heat. to make it simple, 980 Ti custom OC cards are abt 20% slower. and you still need 2 of 1080 for silky smooth rates at 4K resolution. |

Hmm... performance gains definitely better than Titan X, but not quite as good as I expected
I guess 1080 Ti or the Pascal Titan would do justice. 4k 60fps much more achievable now with the 1080, 50-59fps on average at 2160p. QUOTE(Calvin871989 @ May 17 2016, 11:41 PM) I think I might just change my mind now and wait for 1080ti instead of 1080. Hmm its a very tough desicion. Buy 1080 now or wait for 1080ti ... 1080 Ti I know Nvidia didn't showcase full Pascal potential with the 1080 just yet. This post has been edited by defaultname365: May 17 2016, 11:44 PM |

I'm still waiting to see whether any site does other form of testing that gives GTX 980 Ti the advantage.
GTX 980 Ti has more CUDA cores and more memory bandwidth. |

25% - 30% faster than a Titan X
Just the perfect card to completely max out that 144Hz on 1080p monitors |

confirmation pascal async compute is hardware based?
in 8:32 he also implies they made changes in how async works compared to previous generation. go to 11:37 in the video where somebody asked the presenter this question to direct confirmation if it's hardware async. This post has been edited by Moogle Stiltzkin: May 18 2016, 02:52 AM |

it also has 10bit hevc encode/decode.
i didn't see any mention for 10bit h264 i'm assuming it handles that too (decode at least)? anyone know for sure? http://www.tomshardware.com/reviews/nvidia...cal,4572-4.html QUOTE(kahtsin @ May 18 2016, 03:56 AM) problem with this though, how much would the 1080ti be? 750usd? even if it was more reasonably priced, i doubt it will be offered very soon after 1080..... also by the time it comes out, volta will be just over the horizon..... and even after all this, it's just speculation that there will be a 1080ti o_o; we don't know for sure. also architecturally the pascal seems to be a maxwell on steroids. i suspect volta will be the biggest step when they finally go hbm2. there was never originally suppose to be a pascal. that said the pascal on overview seems to solve most of my issues 1. 10bit support 2. hevc decode/encode 3. async compute hardware for dx12 games 4. better performance than a 980ti 20% ish difference ? i'd probably get a pascal, but most likely an AIB model because i'm not gonna pay 100usd more for founders.... especially if i am most likely going to go water cooling. founder is pretty much paying for the fan cooler which was well made, but i most likely won't be using. Not to mention AIB customs will be clocked higher, have more cable to power the card for overclocking people speculated This post has been edited by Moogle Stiltzkin: May 18 2016, 07:36 AM |

Well, unless you really want to squeeze out the remaining 30% then go ahead. But the 980ti would suffice until some new ti editions are announced. Unless you really cannot live without 120fps
.....And I'm pretty sure those who can get the 980ti wouldn't have any budget issue |
