The starbuck is pretty new. Based on the latest GPS maps wth me, it's actually taken over the previous Mayflower restaurant. Mayflower I belive has moved out to the row near Maybank according to Putraskyline hmm.gif

BTW, CH get pretty cold on certain time of the year too for eg..during the mth of Dec- Jan....I hv recorded temperature as low as 15C during my last stay in Dec'07

Yup Stimix. Mayflower has moved to shop lot in the same row with Maybank Tanah Rata while Starbucks has taken old Mayflower shop lot which is along Tanah Rata main road.

Heys, i might be planning a trip to CH soon with my coursemates.
But problem is, we don't have enough cars to drive up, bout 15-20 ppl. So have to resort to take bus up.

So are there any solutions for us to be getting around at CH? i heard there local tour agencies or whatsoever there that can bring us to places around, but not too sure bout it.

Most of the hotels & even budget hotels can arrange local tour. Or easier, once you reached Tanah Rata bus terminal, on the opposite side or just beside the post office, u will see a pondok wth lotsa photos. They are one of the tour operator around.. u can check the price wth them.. I'm not sure the pricing..never use tour b4 in CH

I will be driving from Penang to Kl during the coming school holidays.
I intend to take the Simpang Pulai route on the way up and the Tapah route down.
Only problem is I cannot confirm whether it will be Wednesday 18th or Thurs 19th until the last minute so it will be difficult to book a room ahead.
I have two questions never having been there before.

1. What is the possibility of landslides along the route now that it is raining almost every day?
2. Can I look for a room only after reaching there? (2 adults). (max is below RM300 per night)

1. Landslide are everywhere in CH not only during raining season but even normal days. All depending on how serious are those landslides are..U can see lotsa landslides areas along the way (Mostly covered wth plastic sheet. Only major one that disrupt traffics will be reported..

2) Yes you can..just read earlier threads, i walk-in numerous times b4 even during Saturdays and even small public holiday. For that budget during weeekday u can go for Equatorial or even Strawberrypark!

Thanks Stimix
I am more worried about a major landslide as I am driving by!

I read through all 41 pages and there were some unfavorable comments about Equatorial Hotel.
May try Strawberry Park or Century Pine

Strawberry park although the room has aged but still having the luxury setting & it's also on top of a mountain summit similar to Equatorial although not so high as Equatorial (Which is the highest hotel in CH)

The bathroom of the single suite is super big. Century pine..for sure it's new compare wth others. make sure u dun choose the old wing beside the river stream as this location is noisy not only the stream but also the Morning call.

For me, Strawberry Park have nice location, good value and comfortable room if compare to all hotel you mention. If you can, avoid EQ because they are not well maintained, small room.

Should be low season on May. School Holiday is in June I think. Studio room doesn't consist living room. Usually 1 bedroom apartment more space and can accommodate up to 3 people.

funny404notfound. btw 2 questions for u before i proceed with cameron stuff.

1 - thats the speedtest on your maxis line ka in your siggie ?
2 - wednesday free ?

and a note on cameron highlands - as i was driving through the new highway which i exit at simpang pulai, i saw a whole load of people collecting water on the side, i dunno if u call that longkang water, or "san sui" meaning mountain/spring water.

anyone ever collected those water ? safe to drink direct or need to boil first ?

tip - i once at at kowloon hotel/restaurant/cafe at berinchang area, that place, is uber expensive. dont go ! i rather go to the one same row as KFC. there more popular and got 1/2 time show. there's a disabled fella tugging his speakers/amplifiers and singing ! good music good food. i know he sings hokkien songs, dunno if he's still around or not. i paid RM 10 for him to sing me Theresa Teng's songs. dinner + music = value !

and the night pasar along that road, dried strawberries tip. prices dont differ alot unless u buy more. i bought 37 packets of dried strawberries and managed to nego to about 7 bucks a pack. 1 pack is less than 1kg . i usually buy from the ones they make on the spot there and then u can see them mixing.

and i stayed at equatorial, met another lyn forummer there at that time, coincidentally. we were discussing about our rooms at equatorial, no complaints cept the lift is slow and when its peak, the lift wait time is useless. carparks are aplenty though.

The Q 1 & 2 PM u later-lah OT oledi.

The mountain water..hehe I'm one of those collectors! well not dare to drink. When I asked those guys, come say they drink direct, some cook 1st & some for ritual mandi!..If no rain for few days, u will be screaming waiting for the waterflow that took for ages..i abandoned 1/2way....can't wait 1hr to refill 1.5ltr bottle..

Those restaurants at Brinchang I hv abandoned long time ago.....Super expensive probably 2nd to the Gohtong Jaya restaurants row!! Never eat at berinchang!! Goto Tanah rata, there are 2 reasonable nice steamboats (Mayflower & Hong kong) & also 1 nice BKT although I personaly haven't try...the BKT recommended by 1 MSM guy. All 3 restaurants are in MFM...u check there ho..

Tanah Rata at lower altitude and Brinchang is higher. Tanah Rata is not much, only have a few backpackers lodge, small hotels and mainly a row of shops at the main road. Brinchang is crowdier, because there's more restaurants, a KFC, a Shell station and the infamous nightmarket is there.

Kea Farm & Sg Palas Tea Plantation and the so many strawberry farms.

Hope that helps.
