What made me angry is our self-claim "First Lady of Malaysia" claim that Tengku Irfan is the first Malaysian to admitted to Juilliard... vmad.gif
That statement made me feel like I'm not a Malaysian...
She not only misleading the public, but also over-promoting him. I just hope he still can learn, never be arrogant, and be a more mature pianist and composer in future...

Anyway, I personally think that Claus Peter Flor is not a good conductor.
My reason is very personal: His interpretation is not what I like...
And now with all these news... I really think he is not suitable to be the person that lead the orchestra...

My friend went to the Emperor Concerto concert on Sunday, and he said the Emperor Concerto is a very bad performance. With some obvious mistake in timpani and piano.
I like Paul Philbert very much. I believe he have perform Emperor Concerto many times as timpanist and won't make mistake easily...
After heard of these news, I can understand why he can make mistake. And if I'm him, I will turn the cadenza to timpani solo!!

Another thing that I don't understand is how Claus Peter Flor have so much power in MPO until he can overthrow many great musician, and doesn't care about public view...

I have never been a big fan of MPO, even their ticket counter sales seems to think Ang Moh is better than Malaysian. Ironic, it is called Malaysia Philharmonic Orchestra...

Tchaikovsky Ballet Suites (Swan Lake ● The Sleeping Beauty ● The Nutcracker)
Wiener Philharmoniker
KARAJAN

I've always known KARAJAN as an exceptional conducted.

I also know he is best known for his Beethoven work.

Much to my surprise, he also is quite well received for Tchaikovsky and had made 4 recorded works by Tchaikovsky on 4 separate occasions...

Supposedly, Karajan championed work of less known composers during the span of his career.

Karajan was also very familiar with Wiener Philharmoniker and this Bluray Audio is a compilation of the following recordings:

Swan Lake 1965
The Sleeping Beauty 1965
The Nutcracker 1962

I do no have much material (CD) to compare with this Bluray Audio.

I do have the soundtrack to Fantasia (1940) by Leopold Stokowski & The Philadelphia Orchestra and have to add it is a very unfair comparison.

Again like the other reviews I have done before, the beauty of the bluray audio is in the small sounds. The Triangle and percussion instruments all came out beautifully!!

Karajan's work is very different compared to Leopold Stokowski.

Leopold Stokowski's version lacking a better term is more... "romaticise" (I believe this could be persuaded by Walt Disney), while Karajan's version is more Urgent, determine and "brutal" (not a bad thing).

For the list of tracks for this bluray audio disc, please goto: Tchaikovsky's Ballet Suites

Again, I had chosen the Dolby TrueHD audio option.

I really like this bluray disc.

If you like Classical Music, give this a try why don't you.

My Two Sen.

For more info about Bluray Audio HFPA, please goto you Bluray Audio thrread: Mov_Freak's HFPA Thread

Hi Mov_Freak, I didn't listen to all Karajan's interpretation of Beethoven's Symphony (although it is very famous), but I listen to his Dvorak's Slavonic Dances before and it is very nice!

There's sample in here: http://www.deutschegrammophon.com/en/cat/4474342
My favorite is the track No. 10, Slavonic Dances, Op. 72, No. 2

Miloš Karadaglić - Latino (2012)

Got this from Rock Corner, Bangsar Village, last week.

It has been quite some time since I have gotten a guitar classical album.

Had intended to get this on the bluray audio format, and for some odd reason, although this has been advertise as been release on bluray audio, Universal Malaysia had not gotten it in.

Being a fan of John MacLaughlin (by the way I have his Remember Shakti album on order) and John William's (the guitarist, not the conductor) I have to say this guy is pretty good.

I especially like tracks

1. Piazzolla - Libertango
5. Gardel - Por una cabeza (if you are old enough to remember the tango scene from James Cameron/Arnold Schwarzenegger's True Lies)

There is a down side to this album though. Because guitar instrument was design to be use in a chamber music environment, I have ripped this album to my thumbdrive (.wav files) Driving long distance, I can hardly hear his playing... sad.gif

I have also purchased his latest album Aranjuez and have to add had not had the chance to listen to that yet.

Will keep youse posted.

Cheers.

Miloš Karadaglić - Aranjuez (2014)

I'M IN LOVE!!!

Unlike other performers in the classic music industry (Lang Lang [pianist], David Garret [violinist], Cameron Carpenter [organist {whom I want to smash his face in!!!!?! - Figuratively}]), his performance is very earnest! And in this day and age, that is rare indeed.

What do I mean, from a skill point, it is very obvious he can be more "flashy" and to his credit, he shows restrain, because of his respect towards the piece his is performing, which does not call for him to be "flashy" (I am looking at you Lang Lang). A true sign of a master to be!! Kudos!!

I love this album so much that now I have to have his first album (I only have his second [which I have reviewed a couple of page back and third [this album])

CD shops, here I come.

I usually take the seat on left, because violin is at there, and soloist also stand/sit on left
