how to check vrm temp? asus gpu tweak and HWmonitor doesn't seem to show that

at default clockspeed and when playing AAA games like GTA 5, Shadow of Mordor, Witcher 3, artifacts sometimes occur but not frequent and it's usually on the lower right of my screen but graphic glitches always occur..plus sometimes flickering..

only able to minimize those problems when downclocking the GPU to 1250MHz-1450MHz..  sweat.gif

so regret buying this gpu, i was under the illusion it perform on par with GTX770 but cost less..I didn't research further about it's problems beforehand..  sad.gif

????
The bolded hertz is referring to VRAM clock or GPU core clock?

Official specification from Asus is ;
GPU Boost Clock = 1070 MHz
GPU Base Clock = 970 MHz

EDIT: I suggest you to update the vbios and report back if it is still happening.

Hmm....if it is VRAM clock, wouldn't setting back to 1500Mhz (Hynix chip original frequency rating) will solve it for his gpu?

He ought to update his vbios first before playing around with vram and gpu clocks.

Official bios sure won't.

But again, certain manufacturers deny warranty claim for bricking of GPU/mobo due to failure on bios flash, hence they always warn you to proceed with caution.

=.=...........
Dont worry about bricking modern GPU vbios. You can always reflash back.
He have integrated gpu, no?

If vbios update failed, just turn on the igpu. Plug the display cable to igpu port and flash back the 280x vbios.

It's a dual bios card, just make sure you backup the original BIOS 1st and flip the bios switch if you brick one of the BIOS.

Did Asus increased the voltage as well or they leave it at stock?

You really wanna know?

Apparently someone at rog forum measured the 280x default (before vbios update, not sure with the new vbios yet) voltage of 1.6V for VRAM voltage.

But, the asus 280x hynix chip is rated for 1.5V.... https://www.skhynix.com/products/graphics/v...lNo=H5GQ2H24AFR

Specification also stated the VRAM maximum temperature is 70 Celcius....so..........

1.6V + 1600Mhz(quad pump 6400Mhz) + not actively cooled (only fan blowing air?) = your current result.

Overheating is nothing strange...... sweat.gif

reporting back

I downloaded the .zip file from Asus website and after extracting it and then execute the application, it just says "your gpu no need update vbios"

i have checked techpowerup bios archive and it seems my vbios is the latest version

....so what now?

btw, this is my gpu setting on afterburner:

Time to flash another vendor vbios with proper VRAM voltage....

BTW, you can alleviate the issue by turning the fan to max in order to cool down the vram.

Why your card temperature is higher than my 290x at idle? sweat.gif You're on CFX?
Why you still on 15.5? Hop on 15.7 masterrace.

Btw your card default voltage is 1.25v?

Can you upload the vbios dump here? Open GPUZ, BIOS version ---> click the arrow---> save to file.

I wanna check if the asus vbios flasher actually update your gpu vbios or not.

EDIT:
Please check using msi afterburner for memory voltage, is it still 1.6V?
MSI afterburner ---> settings ---> tick "unlock voltage control" and "unlock voltage monitoring".
If it still 1.6V (1600mV), then you have failed to update the vbios.

Successfully modded my BIOS to increase minimum idle clock with -69mV offset.

the temp maybe because i screenshot the pic around 10-15min after playing witcher 3..right now my idle temp is at 39 celsius..yeah i already updated to 15.7 an hour ago smile.gif

it's the memory voltage rite? if it is, then it's 1500

there's no harm in setting the fan to the max except maybe slightly noisier rite? sorry for my newbie-ness in this stuff sweat.gif

edit: just set the fan to max..man..that's quite noisy.. sweat.gif but i don't really mind it..will test if it's able to minimize the artifact/flickering problems further..

hmm.gif ........so, your model has the latest vbios which reduces the VRAM clock to 1.5V installed properly....

rclxub.gif and yet....the flickering still occurs....... According to you, reducing the VRAM clock somehow alleviate it....

We can't rule out the VRAM as source of flickering yet.

Hmm....Wanna try the opposite method?
Increase the VRAM voltage slightly to 1.52 or 1.55v.
Set the VRAM clock back to 1500Mhz.

My reasoning, 280x got 12 vram chips around the board. Perhaps the memory controller doesn't output 1.5V precisely for 12 VRAM chip.
Undervoltage also can cause flickering issue.

EDIT: Write too fast until need to correct so many times...... sweat.gif
