Question: Why is Fiji Pro, R9 Fury no Pro so long compared to R9 Fury X Fiji XT ?
cooling issue??

The card TDP is 275w, you need a beefy heatsink and tonnes of airflow to cool the card.

A common problem with factory overclocked ASUS r9 280x.
Especially if your mode is http://www.asus.com/Graphics-Cards/R9280XD...specifications/

Asus uses GDDR5 rated for 1500mhz for the board, but overclocked it to 1600mhz.
To make it worst, https://www.techpowerup.com/reviews/ASUS/R9...u_II_TOP/4.html shows the VRAM chips arent actively cooled.

You only need to downclock the vram clock to solve it. No need to downclock gpu core clock.

can you teach step by step on how to downclock that vram clock? i can't seem to find it on Asus GPU Tweak

i was looking around Asus website for latest BIOS, and they have 2014 BIOS but didn't state which version..mine is the 015.041, don't know if this one is the latest or not..

if the bios on that website could fix these flickering/artifacting issue i would want to flash it..but thing is, I'm quite scared to do that, fear i will brick my card..lol sweat.gif

I have a Gigabyte 280x as well on my 2nd PC and it also has the same problem during gaming.

It's definitely a VRAM issue. Lots of 280x have this problem.

I manage to minimize the issue by forcing the fans to run at higher speed at lower temperatures. Using MSI afterburner to do this.

Still contemplating whether to claim warranty for this.

i'm confuse rclxub.gif

is it vrm or vram faulty?

if these problems occur because of vrm overheating, could aftermarket cooler like Arctic Accelero Xtreme IV can solve it?

how to even check if vram faulty or not?

It is VRAM issue.

GPU Tweak? Tuning? Memory Clocks ? Set the slider to 6000Mhz? Apply? Save profile?

If I am not mistaken, you better update the VBIOS as well, I read at rog forum the VBIOS either pump more voltage to keep the vram stable or reduce the vram clock.
015.042 vbios version?

EDIT: Link to rog thread here!, read entire 64 pages if you want to know more

Let just hope your vram isn't damaged by the so called 'factory tested overclock' yet....

No idea even after 1 year of use and so many websites visited.

I suspect the VRAMs might be overheated. Which is why I try to increase the fan speed regardless of the GPU temperature.

If the VRM is faulty, your card shouldn't even work.
Can you check the VRM temperature?

Did you encountered any artifacts/graphic anomalies while gaming?

how to check vrm temp? asus gpu tweak and HWmonitor doesn't seem to show that

at default clockspeed and when playing AAA games like GTA 5, Shadow of Mordor, Witcher 3, artifacts sometimes occur but not frequent and it's usually on the lower right of my screen but graphic glitches always occur..plus sometimes flickering..

only able to minimize those problems when downclocking the GPU to 1250MHz-1450MHz.. sweat.gif

so regret buying this gpu, i was under the illusion it perform on par with GTX770 but cost less..I didn't research further about it's problems beforehand.. sad.gif

u can use gpu z to check the vrm temps, u can do so by checking the log file, direct cu 2 cools the vrm very well i guess, im sure that the card is factory oc'ed but lack of voltage supply u might need to increase the power limit (use msi afterburner) or u can just downclock the gpu core and memory speed to default reference speed of a r9 280x, if its still the same at lower clocks also then RMA is your last bet.

Try GPU-Z or HWINFO though i guess Asus use unknown VRM chip, that's why no monitoring program can pick it up.
You can try the BIOS Asus release to "fix" this problem or you can mod the BIOS yourself to reduce the memory clock speed.

Btw, what happen when u downclock the memory speed and overclock the core? Will it still broken?
