QUOTE(sHawTY @ Mar 30 2016, 10:22 AM) That's more or less the same temperature on my ASUS STRIX R9 390 when playing games In US, people bitch about their graphics card at 80°c. Meanwhile in here, we're getting 90-100 (and throttled). Looks like these AMD are not suitable to be marketed here. Just like the FX9590. It seems water cooling is a MUST for these mid to high end cards. Then I proceeded to remove the stock thermal paste (ASUS use too much!) then replace it with Arctic MX4, temperature drops 8°C. From 98°C to 90°C Note: ASUS Malaysia allows doing these on their graphic cards (as long as there are no physical damage): 1. Change thermal paste 2. Change to better heatsink 3. Use liquid cooling On high load, all 3 fans spins just fine but the temperatures is still at 90°C on load Hence the reason why I change to PowerColor Devil R9 390X with it's AIO liquid cooler Now my load temperature never exceeds 70°C. Idle at 42°C. No air-cond in the room I guess air-cooling is not suitable for R9 390 & 390X Especially with the current hot weather in Malaysia Sigh... AMD and nvidia ignored the poor and hot countries. |

Asus cooler for Hawaii/Grenada sucks. Same for Gigabyte 390s cooler and MSI TwinFrozr cooler for Hawaii/Grenada need a lot of airflow for it to perform decently in closed case.

QUOTE(Acid_RuleZz @ Mar 30 2016, 12:26 PM) Yeah that what i expect or at least give option to change to other similar tier card. I read good rep about MSI warranty around the world where they offered few options or simply give a free upgrades. ill give it a try ans see how This "credit" can only be use for Viewnet or can use on any MSI product? Only play Dota 2.. No time yet. Somehow 30fps fluid motion did not work. Only 24fps available. |

Looks like these AMD are not suitable to be marketed here. Just like the FX9590. It seems water cooling is a MUST for these mid to high end cards. It's very easy to reduce the temperature for graphics card for AMD cards. Even without any additional program you can simply lower Power Limit in Overdrive tab in control panel. With programs like MSI Afterburner you can lower voltage, better fan profile without sacrificing performance. For more advanced user, a simple vBIOS edit can gain even more power saving and temperature reduction. My current 290X works at mere 1.08V at stock 1GHz clockspeed, with tighter memory timing and with 150W power limit it never runs hotter than 70CSigh... AMD and nvidia ignored the poor and hot countries. |

I had three 390 series cards and I must say, the only one who really know how to cool their card well is Sapphire. Gigabyte (G1 Gaming) is a no-go, temp maxes out at 95C and it is screaming loud at full gaming load. So much for the irony of the original boxed reference cooler on the 290 series. Powercolor (PCS+) fared well, temps will not exceed 80C but again, the fan is screaming loud. Sapphire somehow managed to perfect their Tri-X cooler and temps hardly exceed 80C, fan noise was minimal. Of all the 390 series, I would vouch for Sapphire for a perfect balance between temps and noise. I think AMD used a higher stock voltage for their Grenada cores, and it is indeed a struggle for even 3rd party cooler to cool it down effectively.Sigh... QUOTE(Najmods @ Mar 27 2016, 05:16 PM) Woah overclocking Preshottt. I didn't dare to overclock one. I remember fixing my friend Prescott, I think it's 3.2E, or is it 2.8E which runs at 65C in BIOS because it's full of dust Haha so true. I still love the good old days hardware when amd actually whoop intel ass with ATHLON and since the start of core 2 series, the competition became boring. I used to do 1GHz overclocking, first is Pentium 4 2AGHz (Northwood) to 3GHz, and Sempron 2500+ 1.4GHz to 2.5GHz. Even though I could do the same on my 4670k, I don't feel as excited since the Pentium 4 and Sempron I bought is dirt cheap, overclocking turns it from zero to hero. 4670K is expensive and meant for overclocking, so I don't feel special of doing so. What you need is investing on a better case & better case fans. Ditch immediately the stock case fans. These cards do really need good air flow and don't shy from using custom fan profile.Sigh... Yeah, Grenada cards generally have slightly higher voltage than Hawaii counterparts but it does have higher vdroop. Operating voltage is basically no higher than Hawaii. |
