You didn't ask Lingloong?
Nah, I prefer dealing directly with the manufacturer / distributor in regards to faulty hardware(s)

NFS is a little weird, sometime i get glitchy blue/purple screen while playing.
I highly doubt it's the game issue

I have 3 cards in my hand right now
1. PowerColor TurboDuo R9 280X
2. ASUS R9 390 Strix
3. PowerColor Devil R9 390X

Both 280X & 390 runs NFS Most Wanted just fine but when I install the 390X, the game keeps on crashing doh.gif
It's not a BSOD issue, the game just crashes

Try set power limit to the max & increase voltage a little bit.

Really appreciate your advise but I'm not the type who fiddles with clockspeed or voltage
The card is supposed to work out of the box just like the PowerColor TurboDuo R9 280x & ASUS R9 390 STRIX without the end user needs to adjust something else to make it work

It is for troubleshooting. Then try only power limit set to max. It doesn't fiddles the clockspeed nor voltage.

Alright.
But can you explain further what you meant by "set power limit to max"?

This kind of problem makes me think about selling all my cards & upgrade to Fury X
But what's the real world improvement of Fury X over R9 390X?
Does the HBM really make a huge difference?

Also, wouldn't the downgrade from 8GB to 4GB reduce the game quality?
I'm only using 1 screen though, at Full HD, not 2K or 4K

And as I've explained earlier, I'm an old man, so please understand that I really need some guidance before making the switch to Fury X
Not really old la, just 32 hahahahaha laugh.gif

Fury-X bottleneck is pretty terrible at 1080p. Not worth it.

Eh? Isn't Fury X supposed to be more powerful than 390X?
I just changed the Power Settings in Control Panel to High Performance, suddenly the game runs for the last 45 minutes, manage to finish 7 races

Strange how this issue doesn't happen at all on my 280X & 390
I didn't have to change any Power Settings while I was using 280X & 390

Weird sweat.gif

Usually bottleneck by driver overhead/drawcalls at 1080p. Yes it's more powerful but not much powerful at 1080p in drawcall/cpu intensive games.

first you need to trace the problem first, what if you bought the newer card but still have no improvements?

HBM makes a diff, but just not yet. very few games can saturate GDDR5 bandwidth. HBM with near 10x bandwidth is overkill unless you are attempting the highest gaming quality (4K, Ultra, 8xMSAA etc etc)

ill explain abit VRAM for clarification. (in my own method lol)

>game streams game stuff on the fly while playing game
>game stuff are stored on GPU VRAM temp before usage
>in the event where you somehow overkilled on overloading way beyond what your VRAM can handle,
>this is where game stuttering occurs cause not enough memory
>when not enough memory, the GPU is forced to use system RAM to stream the game stuff (which is slower)

so if youre playing games that doesnt even utilise alot of VRAM, theres hardly any diff between 4GB and 8GB

No charge. As long as the card still have manufacturer warranty, you won't be charged

Just collected the card from Achieva this morning. Will be testing the card once I'm back at home
If the card is functioning perfectly, will open a topic to sell it thumbsup.gif

No, not really related to driver overhead or draw calls. Driver overhead is higher on all AMD cards, while draw calls isn't so much for old DirectX games. I read that one of the reason is due to it's slow speed first gen HBM that let it down. Also, the front end and back end of Fiji is basically the same as Hawaii (same number of ACE units, same ROP count), only the shader gets massive boost and slight boost in texture units (some minor tweaks from Tonga like delta compression and stuff) so unless you can get a good deal on one, or really need one for SFF build I'd rather wait for the next big thing.

Played NFS Most Wanted this morning before I leave for work, game runs fine
Still confused about what's causing the crash previously

My Power Settings in Control Panel is still on High Performance though hmm.gif

Somewhat related imo, higher overhead make the cards perform much closer at lower resolution.
HBM slow? How so? Got link to read?
Yeah ROP also kinda bottleneck Fiji's that's why it need DX12 and Async compute. Doubt the ACE bottleneck the card though.
