This kind of problem makes me think about selling all my cards & upgrade to Fury X
But what's the real world improvement of Fury X over R9 390X?
Does the HBM really make a huge difference?
Also, wouldn't the downgrade from 8GB to 4GB reduce the game quality?
I'm only using 1 screen though, at Full HD, not 2K or 4K
And as I've explained earlier, I'm an old man, so please understand that I really need some guidance before making the switch to Fury X
Not really old la, just 32 hahahahaha

first you need to trace the problem first, what if you bought the newer card but still have no improvements?
HBM makes a diff, but just not yet. very few games can saturate GDDR5 bandwidth. HBM with near 10x bandwidth is overkill unless you are attempting the highest gaming quality (4K, Ultra, 8xMSAA etc etc)
ill explain abit VRAM for clarification. (in my own method lol)
>game streams game stuff on the fly while playing game
>game stuff are stored on GPU VRAM temp before usage
>in the event where you somehow overkilled on overloading way beyond what your VRAM can handle,
>this is where game stuttering occurs cause not enough memory
>when not enough memory, the GPU is forced to use system RAM to stream the game stuff (which is slower)
so if youre playing games that doesnt even utilise alot of VRAM, theres hardly any diff between 4GB and 8GB
