I want to flash my firmware to n80ie... can anyone show me how..

Yay! I upgraded my firmware from N80 to N80iE! just follow the instructions at this site. The instructions are step by step. All I can say is, TENSION ALL THE WAY!! Oh ya, and my N80iE supports chinese chars Just use the Hong Kong ver for product code... Not sure how this effects the warranty for my unit, but most probably no more warranty

Update FIRMWARE to IE ver.

I want to ask 1 thing, do i need to follow the region in order for me to update successfully? Mine is from US, which region should i choose? I would prefer that my phone can read chinese. Need it for dictionary purpose desperately...

found in other forum that flashing normal N80 to N80 IE got problem wan..ist it true??

Just finish upgrade for my friend to HK apac version.
Funny thing is hehe... found his phone pronouce the chinese character in cantonese!!

dunno can switch or not.

Mine is china apac, so it pronounce in mandarin. dun bother to flash mine, cause tedious process..

i use phoenix.... cause my friend one already IE version. Cannot upgrade online cause fw is latest....
have to flash it manually to get chinese character.

As far as i concern, it should be fine with warranty, since all seal remain intact, and nothing damage to the hardware.

And if the process fail, u just bring your phone to nokia center and flash there. It's quite cheap also.

just wanna share something quickly..

Since N80 have a rare screen size of 352x416, u may not find as many support as other 240x320 phone.

It kinda frustrated to get games or app that running on 2/3 of your screen.
Here's a workaround. (not from me, i dun claim credit from it)

For JAVA apps only.

extract the JAR file(it's a zip actually), edit the file call manifest.mf
add these two line in at bottom.

Nokia-MIDlet-Original-Display-Size: 240,320
Nokia-MIDlet-Target-Display-Size: 352,416

the original size have to be the actual size the JAR is compile to. U need to know it.
some JARis compile at 176x220 or lower.

And this is a brown up screen size, it might be a bit blurish, but better than not full screen.

i plan to get a N80.. do there any different between Msia set compare with SG set? SG set is which APAC version? got msia APAC version or not for IE?

this is my third symbian phone, and not much faster than the old one. and err.. some of the old symbian problem always exist.... especially the famous memory leak problem la..
but after all, so far so good.... but complain never end one...
Dun think it's "A LOT" faster, and it's using 220mhz cpu, same to the old phone la.

about the FW, there are so many "PRODUCT CODE" on APAC version alone, i'm sure there are some differences, and depend on where and which batch u get.

As far as i know, there are no malaysia apac version on n80 unlike 6680(maxis and celcom 3g). But it doesn't matter to me at all. The funny thing i found out is, the HK and china FW, HK pronounce text to speech in canto, and china in mandarin. Yet to find out from my friend whether the canto version can switch to mandarin speaking. ^ ^ just for knowledge sake.

Sorry... I was away for a couple of days, so didn't catch up over here

Where can I access this text to speech program? So far I only use it to read some chinese SMS... other than that no use coz I'm not really good in chinese


I think for the phone, the hardware is the same for any region... the firmware installed will follow watever product code u put in... even if u put in Arab product code in US phone, it will install the Arab firmware. Just remember to download the firmware for the right region (APAC)!!!

phoenix take about 5 - 10 min to flash, but setup is very long.

Online flashing not too sure.
