Equipment:Sony xba-a2
Requirement: bypass walkman and ipad internal dac, ever to drive the sony-xba-a2 at best performance.prefer warmer sound
Budget: Preferably 1500 or lightly over.

For android and Ipad, can consider Oppo HA-2. For the price, it's a very decent DAC, clean, refined, sound stage is quite huge, with good details and separation.
For Sony walkman wise, I'm not so sure whether it has digital out.

Guys, I am looking between Fiio E06 and Topping NX1 for use with my HTC One M8. I am using ATH IM50. Which is the better choice and any other portable amp around that price range?

unless your M8 has a line out, don't bother with an external amp.

I need recommendation for a desktop DAC+amp (headphone amp, and preferably preamp too).
I have Audioengine A5 and DT990 Pro headphone. I often switch between those two, so a setup that has switch to change the output device would be helpful, but not mandatory.
Have been eyeing on Audinst HUD MX2, Nuprime uDSD, Aune T1 MkII, Schiit MnM stack, Fostex HPA4, and the Audio-GD NFB15.
What would be the best value among those?

And btw anyone here is a senior member of head-fi.org? I wanted to get the Fostex HPA4 from a forumer there, but he has not yet reply to my PM. Maybe I registered a few days ago, so my reputation is not yet up to buy from there.

i was reading some review on C&C BH and most of them said it's better then E11K. any suggestion guys?

Actually the difference between X3ii build in amp and E11k is not very obvious, especially for M50x which is quite easy to drive.
Adding an suitable amp for M50x definitely will let it sounds a bit better, but it still not a headphone that need strong amp to release potential. I think go for a higher range will give you more surprise.

so do you suggest for me to go for higher range headphone or higher range amp? hihihi.. btw with a budget constraint though...

I just bought a M50x myself, and I'm also looking for a DAC to pair with it, if it does really can make it sound better. Currently I just plug it into my MOBO (Model: Gigabyte H97M-Gaming 3) built-in audio port, and it sounds pretty good already.

But if a DAC can make it sound even better, I wouldn't mind buying one. May I ask, how much is this X3ii and where you bought it from? Also, does it plug directly into PC USB port? I'm totally new in this headphone + DAC thing, really have no idea which or what should I look for in order to fully utilize my new toy (M50x). Some recommend me to buy a sound card, some say DAC better so I'm in dilemma.

it really depends on what do you need if you are looking to have the option of a portable player on the go, X3ii is a good choice. if you are look at just to upgrade your desktop setup, then there is the E10K and NuPrime uDSD

Soundcard and dac, most of the time are the same thing.
Most of the soundcard got build in dac and build in amp. Most of the dac (especiallly budget dac below 1k) also got build in amp.
Normally we call those connect pc via pci-e / pci a "sound card", and those connect pc / cd-transport / media player via usb, coaxial or optical a "dac".

Can consider Fiio X3k also. Can be used as USB dac and portable music player. Support dsd.
Slightly warm. Quite neutral.

If budget up to 700-800, can consider Aune X1s, Nuprime uDAC or iFi Nano iDSD.
Both support DSD format. Aune is destop unit, but the amp part is stronger. More digital input (optical, coaxial and usb)

Can consider iFi Nano iCan also. Can adjust gain, bass and 3D.

C5, B1, iCan...both are more to the warm side.
B1 is softer, slightly brighter and more neutral than iCan. iCan sounds darker.
Overall performance, C5 should be slightly lower range than B1 and iCan. but the sound is very punchy and lively.

Just bought Cayin C5 from Star Pickers last week.

Using C5 as a desktop DAC but most reviewer mentioned that C5 is better in amp section than as a DAC.

Would like to know which DAC is compatible with C5. Planning to use my C5 as an amp instead of DAC.

Headphone I'm using is Sony MDR 1BT MK2.

Neutral to slightly warmth sounding should do the job.

i am currently using Hidizs AP100 with JVC FX1200 IEM. i have recently purchased an iBasso D12 (coaxial connection) but was quite disappointed as it is not really an upgrade but rather a slightly different sound signature. On the other hand, my AudioGd NFB-10WM was a huge upgrade to the original AP100.

Hi guys. Im planning to get a Pair of Earsonic SM64 after selling all my gear and went away from audiophiling a few years ago. Decided to get back in and im planning to get a dac/amp or a separate dac and amp to go with an ip4 through a camera kit. Any recommendations? Some stuff i have in mind is the D-Zero MKII/SMSL M2/SMSL SAP5 on the lower end and the highest ill go is the ifi Nano idsd or the JDS C5D. But i intend to stay at the lower price point. walao, guys I just bought a Centrance DACPort from JABEN, you know what, when I open the box, shock! 1 USB cable, 1 bag, 1 1/8in jack, 1 pcs of catalog card, but the most important element, the DAC headamp is not inside, WTF, this is a first time happen to me, jantung almost letup , sweating . the dac you can consider UD120 and the amp will be any portable amp you can think of, but for me, i would go for a DAP instead since they are much more capable and efficient

i just looked into the UD120 and wow it impresses me! and i found out Stoner Acoustics just came out with a small amp called ruby too which have some positive reviews. Any idea how i can get hold of one if i decided to get one? and does it power up without external usb power? especially from 1st gen ipad mini and iphone 6 plus

FiiO Q1 or E10k ?

I know Q1 shines in a sense of portability with built in battery,
so i wonder at the same price range what does e10k offers .
does this two equally match in performance?
or will i be sacrificing some performance for portability on Q1?

Im using this on my desktop most of the time but the thought of having it as a portable does give it a catch at the same price of e10k. If they are both performs equally than obviously Q1 is my choice.
