If yes, don't need the switch.

But normally the installation include the switch.

you are looking at normal lighting switch i think
1 gang 2 way is more for stairs, where you can off and on at 2 locations
you need to look at 2 pole switch.

installing an aircond for my kids study room, small room, 8x8, looking for 1hp aircond. can anyone recommend a reliable brand, daikin, sharp (any brands), with or without inverter?

want to ask, recently my living room old aircond thermostat stopping easily (temp set 18'c still off within 30 mins)... quite irritating on hot day but compressor usually will back in 5 mins.

so today i open up the indoor unit cover, spraying soap water and brush cleaning the cooling coil. saw the thermo-sensor which sticking to cooling coil, i moved it to the sensor housing plastic (means no longer sticker to cooling coil). My objective is to prevent the compressor stopping so frequently.

Now, the compressor moving constantly (a good sign which i wanted), but the aircond fan blow slower after 30 mins of operating. I need to switch it to Fan mode, wait 5 mins, then switch back again to Cool mode.

I guess the cooling coil might be iced-up. Thought of dirty cooling coil, but I already clean-up. Any idea why it happen like this?

It's helps to save energy, but need to turn on for long usage and keep the temperature at 24-26 only you will see the differences.
Inverter model is expensive than standard air-cond, but if your daily use is more than 8 hours. Then it's really recommend to take inverter air-cond. My house currently on daikin premium series... due to small area so it's not an issue for me to keep the temperature at 24.

Noob question here, is it practical/common practice for an AC unit in the living room (downstairs) of an intermediate terrace house but with the outdoor/compressor unit placed at the AC ledge or balcony on the first floor?
