RSS Resilience successfully disrupted a sea robbery in the Singapore Strait this morning.

At 9.07am, a Malaysian-flagged tugboat, Permata 1, reported sighting four perpetrators boarding their barge when transiting along East Singapore Strait. Our patrol vessel RSS Resilience was immediately deployed to the vicinity and the presence of our ship forced the perpetrators to flee southerly towards Indonesian waters.

At the same time, our Information Fusion Centre (IFC) shared information of the incident with the Indonesian Navy and the Malaysian Maritime Enforcement Agency, which led to the successful capture of the perpetrators and recovery of the stolen cargo.

RSS Resilience accompanied Permata 1 safely to Singapore waters where the Police Coast Guard boarded the tugboat for investigation.

Bravo Zulu to the men and women of RSS Resilience and the prompt actions by IFC!

Russian Military Launches Cybertraining Program for Youth

The Russian military launched a new cybersecurity training program for young military cadets at a St. Petersburg military academy on Tuesday, the Defense Ministry was quoted as saying by the RIA Novosti news agency.

“The unique educational institution was established at the Military Academy of Communications in accordance with a decision of the defense minister,” the Defense Ministry said in a statement Tuesday, RIA Novosti reported.

Cadets enrolled in the program will study cybersecurity-related topics, and the school will offer specialized classes focusing on network technology, multimedia hardware, software and robotics.

The announcement coincided with Russia's nationwide back to school day, and 40 cadets enrolling in courses at the St. Petersburg Military Academy of Communications have been selected to take part in a brand new information technology program as part of a wider effort to educate Russia's next-generation military personnel in cyber-operations.

Russia and China have been accused in recent months of sponsoring a wave of serious cyber-attacks against the U.S. government — a suspicion that has prompted some U.S. officials to propose additional sanctions against Moscow, Reuters reported Tuesday.

Russia was singled out in early August as the leading suspect in a sophisticated attack on the unclassified portion of the e-mail network used by the U.S. military's Joint Staff in the Pentagon, and in April U.S. Defense Secretary Ashton Carter blamed Russia for a similar attack on military networks.

Russian espionage and cybersecurity expert Andrei Soldatov explained that the Russian military is trailing far behind the Russian Federal Security Service (FSB) in cyber-operations and training personnel to conduct them.

“The military was not the main player. Russian security services took the lead — first it was an agency known as FAPSI, the Russian analogue to the U.S. National Security Agency or British GCHQ. Later, FAPSI was partly absorbed by the FSB,” Soldatov said.

The Russian Defense Ministry has only in the last two or three years began to focus on strengthening national cybersecurity — which is intimately tied to the study of cyberwar — and Russia is working to formulate a national cyberstrategy, RIA reported.

The 'Clown Hat': Ukraine's Latest Piece of Military Equipment From Israel

user posted image

The removable helmet covering, known as a mitznefet in Hebrew, admittedly resembles a shower cap or a chef's hat but is said to be a potent piece of military gear. The flopping fabric is intended to obscure the familiar round shape of a soldier's helmet and protect against the light reflecting off the helmet's surface.

The Israeli Defense Forces introduced the mitznefet in 1994 but the covering is not really used elsewhere.

The use of the term could be traced back to the biblical Book of Exodus. It was employed to describe a turban worn by the Jewish high priests in the Temple of Jerusalem. The term is often mistranslated as a "clown's hat" but its root meaning is believed to come from the verb to wrap.

Ukraine's military will receive 20 mitznefet coverings in the near future, Zvezda asserted, citing Tzvi Arieli of the Kiev Jewish community.

The Ukrainian government has been persistently pushing Western countries to provide military aid, including offensive weapons, to suppress self-defense forces in the Donbass region. The US has already delivered Humvees, lightweight counter-mortar radar units, medical kits, night-vision goggles and Kevlar vests to Kiev.

so........receiving 20 helmet condoms are news worthy?
I get what it does, but i dont think an aid package of 20 of them is significant considering how many boots are on the ground laugh.gif

With a piece of camo cloth, elastic band & sewing machine I think some random dude could probably make one in literally 10 minutes. Israelis meanwhile would probably charge the Ukrainians $50 USD a piece. Jews, amirite? laugh.gif

probably just for show, but does it have any actual application for dismantling the whole jeep and reassemble them again?

the jeep look like most part is connected or link to other by mean of simple screw and latches, does it compromise the integrity of the jeep when i goes off road or in high speed?

Reports from defensenews that the selection for the RMAF MRCA will likely be made in 2018.

Le Drian Talks Rafale but Not Mistral in Malaysia

QUOTE
Malaysia is looking at the Dassault Rafale and affordability is a key issue.

"It's too soon to announce anything about it,” Hishammuddin told a joint news conference with Le Drian in Kuala Lumpur, Reuters reported. "It's part and parcel of the industry and it's a proposal we look at, and I have been very transparent with the Malaysian public that it's a question of affordability.

“We talked about the Rafale, but not the Mistral,” Hishammuddin said, Reuters reported.

The Boeing F/A-18, Saab Gripen and Eurofighter Typhoon are also under review in the Malaysian tender for 18 fighters.

A selection will likely be made in 2018 as there are financial difficulties, defense specialists said. Malaysia has been hit by lower oil prices and commodities, Reuters reported.

Year 2018 is our Election year, almost impossible will make big Military procurement, unless BN win it.
decision MRCA i expected made in 2016, than will take 1 year to calm down the politic/people hu-ha.
if no made in 2016 than have to wait after election in 2018. if PR win, than MRCA will further more delay after 2020 or cancel.

application?err no.its just to show the simplicity and engineering marvel of the jeep.back in the day,the factories would ship a jeep in a small crate and soldiers would assemble it themselves

Nope, there are hundreds of those latches on a jeep.it is pretty secure

Indonesia could receive Russian military funding by $ 3,000 million

01.09.2015 12:34 (updated 12:35 01/09/2015)

Russia could give Indonesia a preferential credit of 3,000 million to finance the purchase of Russian weapons in the framework of military cooperation, said Tuesday the commission vice president for defense and foreign policy of the Indonesian Parliament, Tubagus Hasanuddin.

"Russia is ready to grant a loan on very favorable preferential terms (for Indonesia) to buy weapons," said the MP quoted by the Antara national agency.

He added that the Russian delegation will visit soon to discuss the issue.

According to Hasanuddin, the corresponding addition to the country's leadership ministries have already been informed about the Russian proposal.

In September 2007, within the framework of the visit of Russian President Vladimir Putin to Jakarta, the parties signed an agreement on a Russian loan to Indonesia 1,000 billion in the framework of which his fighters and helicopters were supplied Mi- 35P and Mi-17B5.
