Rumor says that this purchase will be followed up by tender for 3 new medium squadrons....Gripen, F-16 block 60 or Typhoon.

Perhaps...Su-35 will be financed in renstra II....and these new squadrons will be financed in renstra III

For the previous renstra I..were 6 Su-30MK2, T-50 Golden Eagle, refurbishing of 24 donated F-16 and Super Tucano

Five Chinese naval ships spotted in Bering Sea: Pentagon

The Pentagon on Wednesday confirmed the presence of five Chinese naval vessels in the Bering Sea between Russia and Alaska, which US President Barack Obama is currently visiting.

WASHINGTON: The Pentagon on Wednesday (Sep 2) confirmed the presence of five Chinese naval vessels in the Bering Sea between Russia and Alaska, which US President Barack Obama is currently visiting.

It was believed to be the first time Chinese military ships have been spotted in the area and is another sign of China's global presence expanding far beyond its own shores.

"We respect the freedom of all nations to operate military vessels in international waters in accordance with international law. We are aware of the five People's Liberation Army Navy (PLAN) ships in the Bering Sea," said Commander Bill Urban, a Pentagon spokesman, confirming a story first reported by the Wall Street Journal. "This is the first time we have observed PLAN ships in the Bering Sea."

The vessels are in international waters near the Aleutians, a chain of islands that fan out from the Alaskan mainland. The boats comprise three combat ships, an amphibious ship and a replenishment vessel.

China became a permanent observer to the Arctic Council in 2013 and has shown increased interest in the region's energy reserves. The council's members are the eight Arctic states: Canada, Denmark, Finland, Iceland, Norway, Russia, Sweden and the United States.

Obama is currently in Alaska for a three-day tour of the vast state to raise awareness of the effects of climate change.

China on Thursday will assert its military might with a large parade commemorating the end of World War II. The display will feature 12,000 Chinese troops marching through Tiananmen Square alongside gleaming tanks and missiles, as fighter jets scream overhead.

some people take questioning of military procurement process as though people are saying no... some people take the questioning as an attack on military (to some yes cause less asset means less songlap opportunity)... a well run mindef would assess the threat to the country and recommend appropriate hardware and make avenues to purchase it the right way... but history of msia's mindef proves otherwise.. from a serviceman point of view hardware is always not enough, from a legislator point of view budget given is enough... both are right but that is not taking into account of leakage from both sides...

Defense Ministry to replace F-5 tiger aircraft with Sukhoi-35 jets

Kamis, 3 September 2015 07:14 WIB | 422 Views

Jakarta (ANTARA News) - The Defense Ministry has decided to replace a squadron of aging American-made F-5 E/F Tiger jet fighters with Russian-made Sukhoi SU-35 aircraft.

"We have agreed to buy a squadron of Sukhoi SU-35s from Russia to replace the F-5 Tiger jet fighters," Defense Minister, Ryamizard Ryacudu, said after conducting an impromptu inspection of weapons owned by the Army in Jakarta on Wednesday.

Ryacudu explained that the reason for purchasing the Sukhoi jets was that the Indonesian Air Force's (TNI AUs) pilots were more accustomed to operating the Russia-made jet fighters.

"Now we have jet fighters made by the United States, China and Russia," he said.

The Sukhoi jet fighters will be bought in stages, based on the states financial capacity, he added.

"We want to buy a squadron (of Sukhoi SU-35s), but the purchase will be adjusted, based on the financial capability of the government," Ryacudu stated.

He added that the purchase agreement for the Sukhoi jets will be signed later this month.

The Director General of Defense Planning at the Defense Ministry, Rear Marshal M. Syaugi, said the new Sukhoi jet fighters will be bought on a transfer of technology (ToT) basis.

"This is in line with existing rules, which specify that if we want to buy a main armament system, there must be ToT," he explained.(*)

Nope, mkm sit in a new hardened bunker made just for the MKM. During lima you can see the MKM are left just like that on the hot tarmac, same like other plane, even the China plane. Buat the last time the typhoon need a cooler to cool the plane off.

China's People's Liberation Army faces aggressive reforms, President Xi Jinping promises a force that 'can fight and win wars'

user posted image
Female soldiers march by a billboard of Chinese president Xi Jinping with the slogan "Strive to build a People's Liberation Army that obeys the Party, Wins the war and has outstanding work style"

In anticipation of the upcoming WW2 commemorations in Beijing, Chinese President Xi Jinping has promised to trim and streamline the People's Liberation Army (PLA) and its constituent parts. President Xi, who wields enormous influence over the government and military, unlike his predecessors Hu Jintao, has said that China needs to take advantage of its prosperity to modernize and streamline its defense structure in view of future challenges.

Among items discussed for the reforms include plans to trim the top-heavy officer corps and to reduce the fighting force by 30,000 troops while more reliance would be put into advanced technology and improved intelligence. Plans are also afoot to create an increased network-centric mode of battle to better coordinate the military structure.

But perhaps the biggest change is plans for the PLA Naval and Air Force branches to cease being subordinate to the PLA Ground Forces and be more autonomous in their policies and procurement. This would give enormous benefit to both branches as leadership, command systems, and force structure will be apportioned more evenly among the services to support integrated joint operations.

Experts say the biggest winner of these proposed reforms would almost probably be the PLA Navy. Already shaping itself into a modern fleet with state-of the-art warships and with its recent increased responsibilities due to Chinese maritime claims, the Navy would be privy to significantly increased funding and resources to enable it to safeguard these responsibilities.
