Hi Guys.

How is the working life in Singapore?

How is the expenses? Can someone share it out..Pls...

Normally how much we can save per month?
*
working life is Sg is pretty good, euqal n more quality... more affordable then working in Msia... as for expenses, depending on how u spend your $$$$ actually... e.g. if u go partying every weekend or buys branded clothings with a SGD2k pay, I dont think u will have anything left end of the mth... there more more then clubbing, shopping, cinema in Sg, u can always play some sports in the community centres which are free of charge

Temptations are always there... I hardly been affected by this except maybe year end,... allwo myself to spend a little more.  I also have to keep up with technology, but I am not into such things unlike some of my friends... also depends on your sustainable life style.. A colleague of mine earning ~3k/mth, not married  and staying with his parents, used to go holiday every yr to places like Japan, EU.. of late, he decided not to travel but save $700/mth for insurance alone in CASH.. He is still living his normal life of carefree and spend as he wants... Of course, he is not the spend thrift type except only on things he love.. electronics gedget.  However he still spending, according to him, still can survive comfortibly...

As for PC, you can go Sim Lim Sq and asked for OEM.. 1 PC set up without monitor cost ~$400.. not referring to low end type mid range typical set up but pay more if you want superb type ~$700.. no need pay $1500... Given that, who won't want to spend.. temptations ... always there.. Even SGTel and StarHub, the 2 biggest Teclo companies in SG are offereing free laptop and desktop with their broadband subscription.. By comparision with MY, $ for $, SG is  definitely much cheaper... imagine paying ~$45 for 7Mbps/mth and you get a free desktop worth $1500 Pc from I think HP, or some reputed brand.. if you aren't choosy, like me, I am using 10Mbps paying ~$73/mth bundle with hp line, comes with $200 voucher and Samsung CAM corder FOC.... imagine paying for 1Mbps RM77 in MY (was in another thread just this week in LYN about subscription fee)

But again... in SG, many people as they claimed, even market analysts & economists too.. eyeing SG pie for retail and spending as the people simply have too much CASH to disposed.... Given that scenerio?.. temptations is really very high and almost everyone is in the mode of spending.... Given that kind of remarks.. Don't you think this SUCKERS also have some point in what they had written about the spending power of working in SG and the cost and cost index ?

Its okay if they don't understand... at least try explaining what it is like. My father in law used to engaged 2 indians from India to help with his mover business. I must say, those days... they were only here in SG on social pass, therefore, it made them illegal working for him, untill he finally got them as full time worker.... but they were paid local paid.. no undercutting as my in law is very generous with workers including meals and drinks.. I could recall.. years after they left and came back working as contract worker with HDB as cleaners. they look up my in law only to find him underground 6 feet.. they told us, he lived like a king back in India for 2 yrs, build a big spacious house, for his entire and related families, even employ several maids with the saving he made working for my in law..

I also remember too... these 2 workers had also brough along their other indians friends working here over the weekends offering FOC services just only asking for basic meals and drinks which my in-law provided them with soc they can save more..for their own in India. So given that kind of scenerio... I guess it really boils down to what do we really want to get out of this employment in SG... My chinese colleague told me, its indeed expensive spending in SG initially. However, after some months, he said, its not that bad earning and spending here as compared to China.. which the cost index is much higher than SG.... no conversion of currency..

Everyone has their own preference, we cannot force them.
For the comfortable of living, I think those ppl who has work in both places know the differences very well.

Agree, but yes and no too.. Some people are bend on insisting which ever is comfortible.. Its no point conforming others to whatever disgreement.. However, I would only say, you have to find something that suits you.. else.. no matter how good is, useless..... if you are bend on being bias

Just this moring in a travel blog, a malaysians put it blundly that things in SG is expensive.... etc, quote an example and said its SG style. However, he was also refuted by foreigners in the travel blog too of his comments, not Singaporeans mind you, also citing example typical too in their countries. He then went on to the thread and posted in similiar style about other SG stuff...

What we would like to do here is just share info, opinion, ideas, views, arugement be it whoever right or wrong, exchange pointers, we may not agree but at least we put forth our views and facts, whatever..... but to really put each other down.... I its not soemthing unbecoming..... irresponsible.. Something which I had also seen in Malaysia-Today... Mind you.. this are also found in SG blog, doesn't matter whoever posted it.. be it local or foreigners...

Those were the days........I miss Singapore!!!! cry.gif cry.gif cry.gif cry.gif cry.gif cry.gif

On a serious note, it is very true that when you first move over, you will hit with tough time as everything is double the moolah - your savings was in RM and now spend in SGD. Depends on individual, normally it will take you like 3 months or more to get adjusted (someone told me they did it in 2 months). Well, for me it was like more than months cos I bought a lot of things. tongue.gif The moment you have adjusted, well, well, well, SGD start flowing in like free beer (borrowing terms from drinking kaki). If you do not simply throw your SGD to partying, clubbing, unnecessary gadgets, etc., you can easily save 50% of your earning (case by case basis la). Food there are reasonably price, so it is not really a concern. The biggest concern is how comfortable do you choose to live/sleep/rest. You can live very near to MRT and pay a little bit ore. Or, you can choose to live in fully air-con room and pay more. Of course, the ultimate is staying in your own studio! drool.gif drool.gif drool.gif Well, I once dreamt of staying in my own studio there but can't afford to realise my dream. sad.gif

I guess sometimes its being in the right place at the right time.

For my current company, I applied for their Malaysian subsidiary, but the HR handed my resume to the Singaporean headquarters, and they called me up for an interview.

Yes, I went down from KL to Singapore for the interview. Treat it like a short vacation if you are going down, and maybe you can look around and see if you like the lifestyle there.

This is also what I experience when I 1st settle down in UK for my study, weary of the cost and impact as everything was 3X SG$.... Wondering whether I had enough to spend and how much I had to fork out extra... on top of the scholarship monthly allowance remitted in my account.. After 1 month+, I began to see, all not that true although it is expensive... but again, simply because of misconception and percieved to be, the living cost in UK... especially earning income from countries like us in SEA... spending in developed country's cost of living is indeed a burden..

My 515 pd/mth allowance can really last me with my simple lifestyle, food, rental and bill.. In fact, I had spare every month and that ease part of my load of buying air ticket back home every term break or spare $$$ for me to do some shopping for home. To my surprise, I even found things sold cheaper in UK than in SG....

No, don't think so. Unless you are in a high ranking managerial position, then you'll probably receive these treatment. But then again, it depends on the company - no harm asking them if you are called up for interview. It's not that expensive to travel to Singapore. Show some commitment in your job hunting
