Yes the SIngapore CPF is Much higher than Msia. The Singapore government believes in retiring rich but surprisingly, u can still see a lot of retired people working part-time in fast-food outlet.. a very contrasting sight as compared to Msian retired ppl! You don't see them working in Msia.

SPeaking of CPF, the employees contribution is a whooping 20%. That really kills...

SG GOV don't believe in pension.. so need its citizen to save up more for their retirement. That's why CPF so high? true and not true. It used to be 25% for both employer and employee. Since the 1st recesion, many things had changed. Now, its 20% and I think 15% for employer.

As for the older people, few saying, which are true though, some work to past time, or as 2nd carrer. Some need to work cause not enough saving, some need to work cause used up their saving without even thinking, like my father, regret now, and working PT. Earn some $ and have some spare time to do what he likes, coach badminton (also earning some $$).
Things are no longer what it used to be. Just as was reported in MY, SG too face the same problem. My father's generation don't believe in saving, also they have been struggling to just survive and making sure enough for the family to eat. where got time to save, TRUE and Not quite. depending on circumstances.... many .. cases... but so many different issues to resolve. Not forgetting, there is a lack of workers too and in certain industry, many older people are working, employed. Alsodue to high cost of living, people need to work longer. Not forgetting, the life span in SG is getting odler, ~70 as compared to the past, 55-60, so given those extra yrs, Gov had already raised the retirment age at 62, but then..... its really up to your company...

With a degree it is already very hard to get you a job in Singapore because small firms usually won't bother to go thru the hassle of getting you an EP(EMPLOYMENT PASS).
To secure better opportunity, get a degree and try again.

Or you can buy a car and use it from 7pm-7am everyday. Normal license will have the black no. plates and you can drive 24/7 while yours will be red no. plates. Save your road tax also.

I rarely see any bikes on the road, except for the superbike bikers randomly. Oh yeah, all you need is the EZLink Card for riding bus and MRT/LRT. Convenient huh? It looks like this but there's alot of design for this card.

Yes, and you even get discount if u transit within a certain time limit. It so cheap travelling in Singapore. Not like KTM in Msia, one trip already RM3. There, with SGD 4, U can go a lot of places and not just one station.. multiple trips! Sometimes just 65 cent for bus n mrt!

btw, I'm reading previous posts in this thread. Someone said that if you have a work permit, you can't apply for PR? blink.gif Can someone explain to me what kind of work permit is this? I'm hoping its not Employment Pass Eligibility Certificate or those Professional Visas...

there is a lot type of permit to work in sg. If you holding Employment pass or S pass, you can apply PR without any problem. If you holding work permit only, i think need meet certain criteria before you can apply PR or cannot apply. Not sure though

What's ur qualification? Any field that you preferred? Job street SG hardly reply to Msian candidate unless u have extensive experience. Or unless you are from Engineering back ground then ur chances are pretty much higher. Singapore is in need of technical people..

Work in Msia for few years to add value to ur resume then try again. Good luck
