To mountain and jimmy gf,

I still find the best way to look for rooms is to go to the targeted area and hunt for the ads usually paste at the lifts lobby, letter box area of the blocks.
For the west area, the cheaper rooms shall be around Jurong East and Clementi area. Or u could search further up to Bukit Batok and up up up. Go get a mrt line map and pick those area near to the stations. Travel time definitely < 45 mins.

Btw, I am a "seasoned" Msian who has lived in Spore for long long time. But I am at central south area.

For Soon84, go chk up jobsdb.com.sg.
Frankly speaking, with SPM/PMR, u wont get as many chances as the graduates. But if u dun mind to work as coordinators, clerical works at local companies, service line like restaurants, boutiques...

Depends on which industry you are willing to work. If you want IT line, I can say that chance is very slim, as most of them are looking for talented, experienced and with high qualifications.

sorry to tumpang this thread.

If i'm issued a Blue IC from Singapore, is this going to be valid for whole life? What is Re-entry permit going to have anything to do with the Blue IC?

I'm currently a SPR. I got this status in 2002. After the issuance of this IC to me. I'm back here to M'sia until now.

So, if my re-entry permit expire, I'm not a SPR anymore? I intend to go back to work. The re-entry permit is going to expire this November. What is the relationship between re-entry permit and SPR? Any idea what's the criteria for them to assess the application for renewal of re-entry permit?

Slacker, why come back and forth Msia and Spore?

Once u got the SPR, u r SPR permanently. You could live in Spore permanently.
Re-entry permit, as uggested by the name, is to allow re-enter to Spore from overseas as Sporean i.e. no embarkation form needed, and via Spore citizen lane at their checkpoint.
To obtain/renew re-entry permit, one of the criteria is u need to "contribute" to Spore. Thus u need to have a job. Employer letter/cpf acct statement/income tax eval form are few of the required docs for the application/renewal. Usually if u are at work for > a year with >2k mthly salary, u shall be able to get the renew of another 5 years.
For your case, if u could get a job before Nov, u'll still stand chance to get the re- entry permit renewal for shorter period, maybe 1 year.
Another way, if u r a lady, go married to Spore guy and get dependent pass and u would have re-entry permit too.

Here is the tricky part.
SPR allows u to live in Spore permanently provided u stay in Spore forever, no stepping out of the boundary.
Without re-entry permit, once u stepped out of Spore, when wanna go back to Spore, u'll lose the privillege. U'll be treated as other normal foreigners...gotta fill up embarkation, only allows 2 weeks stay bla bla bla.
Conclusion, SPR is just nothing. Unless u wanna "jail" in the little island, otherwise to secure the rentry permit to have movement freedom is more important.

Where I got this info? Check ICA.

I came back to M'sia during the SARS epidemic. Since then, I found a job Malaysia and work until recently. So according to the info from ICA, I can go Singapore now and work there for a year and then apply for 5 or 10 years rentry permit without leaving s'pore after November 2007{temporary until i get re-entry permit}?

Wow so pathethic dun want to go back home town for Chinese New Year or Hari Raya ar?
U can try to apply re-entry permit at Nov when your current re-entry expire as long as u are working at Spore that time, and your employer is willing to help you with the employer letter since u could be still under probation.
ICA might not gv u full 5 years re-entry but probably grant u 1 year or so. this depends on them. Then u go apply again once when it expire lar...then u could get 5 or 10 years probably.

Yeah, last time no need but now SPM is needed to work there. I'm going to look for a job there and hoping I can find a job where there would be free transport like bus from JB to SG which I believe usually factory jobs provide these kind of stuff and wonder if anyone has any vacancy or information for it? tongue.gif

Also any tips and such while working there? Thanks...

What's ur qualification? Any field that you preferred? Job street SG hardly reply to Msian candidate unless u have extensive experience. Or unless you are from Engineering back ground then ur chances are pretty much higher. Singapore is in need of technical people..

Work in Msia for few years to add value to ur resume then try again. Good luck

You just need a working permit or employment pass. Ur singapore firm will do all the application for you. After a year or so, you can opt to apply to be their PR and be eligible to the CPF contribution (Msia-EPF). To non-PR, the singapore company has the right not to reimburse your portion of CPF, in that case, it would be advisable to apply as a PR so u get your CPF (13%, heard its going 17% soon.. not sure though)

Yes the SIngapore CPF is Much higher than Msia. The Singapore government believes in retiring rich but surprisingly, u can still see a lot of retired people working part-time in fast-food outlet.. a very contrasting sight as compared to Msian retired ppl! You don't see them working in Msia.

SPeaking of CPF, the employees contribution is a whooping 20%. That really kills...
