One of my favourite movies is Braveheart, starring Mel Gibson as William Wallace. He was the Scottish patriot and national hero who fought and died to free Scotland from English rule.
There is a scene in the movie where the heavily armoured English cavalry was charging on horses towards the lightly armed Scottish infantry. Wallace ordered his troops to "HOLD....HOLD.....HOLD....". At the very last minute, the Scottish infantry raised 10 feet long poles which were lying hidden on the ground to pierce and slaughter the English cavalryman. Scotland won a great victory that day. What does this story has to do with investing in unit trusts in FSM? In times of great uncertainty and adversity, if we have a proper asset allocation, then we should just weather the storm and hold our portfolio. The storm will pass and we will emerge victorious at the end. China and India may be falling today but we should stay focused. Invest more if we can afford to and just sit tight to weather the storm. Imagine if he has with him trebuchet, multiple firing crossbows etc, then he has so much more options. There is a scene in the movie where the heavily armoured English cavalry was charging on horses towards the lightly armed Scottish infantry. Similarly in Bolehland, we can only long a fund and nothing else hence we can only wait it out. Now imagine if we can short sell funds or perhaps write and sell our own put or call options. Do much more we can do....rather than wait it out and tok-kok with strangers over the net. xuzen |

Bonds and stocks rebound, sterling soars after UK election
QUOTE World bond and stock markets rose on Friday after a bruising week and sterling jumped to a two-month high after the business-friendly Conservative party won Britain's national elections. "The surprisingly decisive result reduces uncertainty over the next (UK) government," analysts at Morgan Stanley wrote in a note. Confidence was also given a big lift as bond markets recovered after one of the most turbulent weeks in Europe for decades. http://www.thestar.com.my/Business/Busines...tion/?style=biz |

QUOTE(Vanguard 2015 @ Apr 30 2015, 10:35 AM) Doom and gloom predictions have been around for years. They were there before we were born and they will still be there after we leave this world. well 6-8 equity funds for diversification is really overdiversification.we cannot 'diversified'away from systematic risk even with 100 equity funds We just have to practise asset allocation and do the best we can. On a different note, I was surprised to see the amount of your investment. If I had knew, I would have advised you to diversify more. At least 6-8 equity funds and 2 bond funds. I believe you have zero bond funds now? If my assumption is correct, you have a super aggressive portfolio which is extremely vulnerable to the market forces. This may leave you open to panic attacks when the market goes down. But all is not lost. You can re-structure your asset allocation later once it turn green again. May the force be with you. suffice to say 70% TSM or large caps value+growth,25% small/midcap,15%small value would have been adequate.expense ratio for the latter 2 funds will be fairly substantial as churning or higher turnover rate than large cpas is not unexpected as for asset allocation- risk tolerance time horizon investment goal etc would determine/decides the portfolio of the investor |

Sensex soars by 506 pts as fund inflows resume
QUOTE Logging its biggest rise in over a month, the benchmark BSE Sensex today surged by 506 points to 27,105.39 points on government's move to mollify overseas investors' taxation worries and rupee's recovery. Firm global stocks tracking UK election result, fall in Brent oil prices, value-buying in domestic beaten-down stocks helped Sensex recover from 6-1/2 months low, traders said. On weekly basis, the 30-share Sensex recovered by 94.08 points or 0.35 per cent, to snap three weeks of losses http://www.business-standard.com/article/p...50800731_1.html |
