Sell In May And Go Away.........
DEFINITION of 'Sell In May And Go Away' A well-known trading adage that warns investors to sell their stock holdings in May to avoid a seasonal decline in equity markets. The "sell in May and go away" strategy is that an investor who sells his or her stock holdings in May and gets back into the equity market in November - thereby avoiding the typically volatile May-October period - would be much better off than an investor who stays in equities throughout the year. INVESTOPEDIA EXPLAINS 'Sell In May And Go Away' This strategy is based on the historical underperformance of stocks in the six-month period commencing in May and ending in October, compared to the six-month period from November to April. According to the Stock Trader's Almanac, since 1950, the Dow Jones Industrial Average has had an average return of only 0.3% during the May-October period, compared with an average gain of 7.5% during the November-April period. QUOTE(puchongite @ Apr 30 2015, 11:28 AM) I have 25% in a bond fund. But I have no idea if there is a crash of the market, will bond fund be spared ? Depends on what bond funds you buy....some are very sensitive to interest rate hike...YES, that too depends on the situation that lead the good return rate before the crash.... YES bond are not spared too in recent instance together both EQ and bonds fell...Mid 2013. just like any investment...if you have holding power, "most" would be good in the long terms This post has been edited by T231H: Apr 30 2015, 11:40 AM |

QUOTE(sonicbull @ May 1 2015, 11:52 AM) for Taiwan, South Korea & esp. China/HK, yes. I checked the fact sheets for both, the top holdings for these 2 funds are different except for one company. when the cold winds hits North Asia....will "this" company be spared? also I think Ponzi 1 also has some coverage in that region too yes...as Vanguard said...get some Global that cover US/EU is better for the portfolio...anyway it is still up to individual. |
