Good day, guys.
I'm wondering why Filco is so highly (if not best) regarded compare to other keyboard brands.
Considering their price and features, are they kind of overprice? I've read about how people rave about their build and quality, how different it feels when it compare to other keyboards with the same switch. (I'm definitely not comparing it to Razer here) While there are other similarly or lower priced keyboard brands out there like Ducky and CM Storm. I bet their quality are pretty much similar or maybe Filco is slightly better. However, everyone (yes, ALMOST EVERYONE) seems to prefer Filco. I've also read about the stabilizers where people pick Filco for its costar stabilizers but this cannot be the only reason right? Besides, there are also other keyboard with Costar Stabilizers. Please don't get me wrong, I'm not doubting the reputation nor the the quality or trying to insult Filco or its fan. And, please correct me if I'm wrong, I'm here to ask for opinions not arguments. My apologies if my words are

No sarcasm as well, I'm just curious about how each keyboard brands differs between each other when it comes to typing experience. Now, I'm deciding between Ducky Zero or Rosewill RK-9000 (with brown switch) as my second mechanical keyboard for work. I wonder if I should top up more for a Filco.
I'm currently using a Ducky Shine 3 with blue switch, besides dead LED, I'm kinda happy with it. You know right, after you start using mechanical keyboard, membrane keyboard like... sweat.gif
Have anyone brought their mechanical keyboard to work? I cannot be the only one who think about doing it.

Anyway, I'm open to suggestions and opinions on my purchase. Appreciate if anyone could point me to the right direction and explain why Filco is preferred by so many people out there.
I don't wanna spend too much as it is only for work and I don't need no fancy or gimmicky features. I just need a good keyboard to get me through a busy day.
Thanks in advance.

i use ducky as my first kb and then up the ante to filco.

the experience was different. u need to test it yourself to be honest.

no matter how people say or describe, the point when it is in ur hand its different.

filco board was super sturdy, compare to ducky. but both was good.

Refer to my siggy, and you will see Ducky, CM and Filco are all inside the list.
Well, according to unwritten rules here.. We buy, we try and we speak. smile.gif

Filco is the best among all. Ya, Ducky is also a great keyboard as well as CM.
Mainly because the typing feel is the best, the consistency of actuations, actuation feel when it hits bottoms, sounds. laugh.gif
As simple as that.

The costar stab is good, nice to press on. There is another reason why I like costar, because I can mount warped spacebar keycaps on the stab and it looks balanced. thumbup.gif

Back to your queries.. You should top up for Filco.

P/S: My daily driver is Filco (>80hours of typing per week)

By steel plate you mean the bottom layer of the casing? Im looking at doing a steel plate at the bottom, then stack it up with carbon fiber. Thinking of using carbon fiber for that plate between the keycaps and the pcb board. But pcb board a bit hard. Was watching them hardwire they keyboard instead. What do you thing?

Apparently theres one in sungai buloh. Sc tech or something.

Steel plate is what you mount the switches on. Bottom layer is part of the case.

Filco is, truly, one step below custom for MX boards. Consistency between switches, across the board is amazing. You get the feel that you've paid for. There are very few problems with Filco and you get the feeling of sturdiness.

Of course, overall when you compare against other boards the difference in quality and feeling is not as objective as you'd expect, but let me assure you that the difference in price is more than justified.

In the end, its about the feeling and the feeling you get from a Filco is amazing compared to other commercial brands.

Maybe Ducky Legend(released not long ago) Mechanical Keyboard will feel better or have better quality compared to Filco due to it's aluminium construction.

By the way, I weighted a Filco MJ2 TKL(87 Keys @ TKL Layout) vs a Ducky Shine 4(108 Keys @ Full Layout). Filco MJ2 TKL, despite having lesser keys and non-LED here, still heavier than Ducky Shine 4.

And, don't forget about Vortex branded keyboards. The latest Vortex POK3R Keyboard is using pretty thick aluminium case. smile.gif

Gateron switches are really cheap! yawn.gif are they as reliable as the cherry MX? I suppose for first build its better to use Gateron? Are these pcb mounted or plate mounted? I think I will need plate mounted if i want to hardwire the switches instead of using a pcb board.

Plate-mount and PCB-mount have virtually no difference. Most PCBs can accept either and if you mounting on a plate the difference is minimal anyway.

Should I go the non-PCB route, a PCB mount switch will not have any impact as well? I do want to follow this guy:- http://cubiq.org/build-your-very-own-pc-keyboard

No impact because PCB mounted switches just have 2 extra plastic slots at the bottom for better attachment to the PCB.

If you're following matteo's route, I suggest you settle the plate first. Find a cutter. SC Tech in Sungei Buloh can't handle all the materials (5mm acrylivc) I want, so I'm still searching.

1st impression I see the keyboard(filco mj2) its like other mkb. Actually I like SteelSeries 6Gv2 but the reds is for gaming only and I confuse how to find a Super-duper mkb without lost the feel of membrane. Than I research some reviews on CM Storm Razer and Filco..

Many ppl even oversea recommend Filco because its built quality and feel in typing is SUPERB. Then, CM Storm is for affordable price, nice quality and many choices, only Razer did not have good reviews and some say Razer is lapsap.

After deep thoughts, I buy a 2nd hand Filco MJ2(Beige) from a guy in Ipoh, Perak. He sold to me around RM 350 with post and some extra keycap set. I test it with some online games like Dota 2, CS:GO and BlackShot, I feel the response is fast and accurate. Then I bring it to my practical place to test typing, it is fantastic even I miss click some words because it is TKL but it is a good mkb I ever try for 1st time buy. #FILCOBEST

Guys, may I know where you guys buy Krytox lube?

Prefer USA site la, mostly I saw are out of stock, or sold in huge volume, which is super expensive and I don't need that much.

Or anyone here have extras that can sell me some. biggrin.gif
Project incoming, but not too soon, just wanna get things prepared.

EDIT: I found on EBay. Well if anyone got extra locally, I don't mind buying just don't rip me off.. smile.gif

Check gon? spirit from GH? Spirit charges 8USD shipping and GON if not mistaken is $20. There are some complaints about spirit but few months ago i bought springs from him and had no issues at all.

Yeah I'll check with him, but actually these are used for MX clears, so I'm not sure what to use, many on GH used 105. (Higher number higher viscosity right?)

How about the GPL205 grease? I'll just test a couple of switches first, then only I'll decide if I want to lube them all, the set I'm buying already comes with 62g Korean springs. biggrin.gif

I'm new to all the lube stuff, definitely need more experiments.
